I used the Iguidance software for the first time today and found it nice except for one point. On a stop, the map display keeps rotating. I know that my onCourse BT-339 Sirf III GPS receiver is responsible for sending false heading readings but some software disable map rotation below a preset speed. Is there a trick to fix this?
I looked in the BT-339 configuration software but did not find a way to prevent heading changes below a preset speed. The only way I could think of fixing the rotation issue is to run the GPSProxy program between the BT GPS receiver and Iguidance. I know it would work but I would prefer a simpler solution not adding an additional layer of complexity, eating up free memory or adding delays in the display of your position on the map.
Thanks Frosty Vibe for your solution. It would work most of the time but I recall seeing the software recalculating the route asking me to turn aroung. Beside, it is a distraction having to figure out your direction on the screen while driving. I find it safer to drive with the track-up setting.
An update regarding GPSProxy. GPSProxy does indeed prevent the map from rotating but it converts the NMEA sentences to garmin sentences so it cannot be used with IGuidance. I cannot believe we are the only one with this problem. Is there a solution or is my BT-339 defective?
Looks like you are experiencing exactly the same problem I encounterd as well, it is indeed very distracting.
The problem really mosty has to do with GPS fix accuracy ( and your BT 339 is SiRF III right? ) and your proximity to an intersection. Perhaps a external antenna could help your fix accuracy and reduce the severity of the problem.
I did a factory reset on the BT-339 as suggested by the sellers support staff and now this unit seems to work perfectly (at least in the house). The map in Iguidance is not spinning any more. Before the reset, Iguidance was constantly reporting a speed between 2 and 5 Km/hr when stopped. Now it is reporting 0 Km/hr. Tomorrow, I will test it on the road but I am confident it will be OK.
I am reporting the solution to my problem so it may help someone else in a similar situation.
