Hey everybody,
Figured I'd start a thread where people can post their reviews and questions on the 2730. I'm looking at this one pretty heavily, and I'm assuming others are too. Thanks for any contributions you have to help those of us out before we drop large bills on something like this. :)

Ditto!
I'm about 75% certain about buying this unit. Waiting to hear how well the XM Traffic feature is working... |

| I'm interested in how the weather works too. I won't get the traffic for a couple years probably (hopefully when XM picks up Raleigh-Durham), but want to see/hear where this new feature is going. |

| I received the 2730 on Friday and have used it quite a bit the last few days and other than a few minor gripes. I'm very pleased with it. First gripe is the 3 foot cable (USB) for the xm antenna/receiver. BTW, the xm receiver is built into the antenna. If you want to mount it anywhere but the dash you will need an USB extension. I have found the xm reception to be excellent even on the dash. The basic weather option comes with the Navtraffic and it is basic with current conditions, forecast and viewing basic info on the map. The traffic option is very good and I tried a re-route today based on traffic and it worked well. Actually showed me a new way of getting around an intertate that I was not aware of. The screen has been clear in partial sun and full shade. MP3 works as advertised. Using the built in audio out to the car stereo is the way to go if you have an aux input on your stereo. The fm modulator works ok but if your car antenna is in the rear you may have some noise. The navagation has been excellent with lots of choices on types of roads to avoid, etc. Recalculating a route when you go off of it is excellent. The other gripe is that Garmin did not include the City Nav DVD in the box and you have to call and request one. All in all, the unit is very nice. |

GXM 30 USB extension cable (replacement) p/n # 010-10617-02 LIST $18.89 This USB ext. cable is included in the GXM 30 Antenna box (6' 6" long). It's just not included in the SP 2730
Hope this helps!

A couple of questions for those who have already activated their XM service.
1) With regular XM service, there are discounts for signing up for multiple years. Is that offered for XM service on the 2730 as well (with the weather/traffic package on top of the XM service)?
2) Has anyone tried signing up on line instead of over the phone? I prefer on line since giving numbers back and forth (address, CC, phone numbers, id numbers, etc.) is a pain in the butt for me. Is it possible to sign up on line (XM and extras)?
Thanks, I hope to get things signed up in the next day or two.

I know you can activate online, not sure how you sign up for the other services though, haven't had to do that yet since I don't have a 2730 (yet).

You can sign up online for xm radio but apparently you can not add the traffic option online, I had to call to get that. You can do the multi year package but the Navtraffic price stays the same. No current discount on that. You can also take advantage of the family service if you have more than one receiver.

I just signed up. I didn't see pats reply before I did though, and started on line. Then when I realized there was no option for the NAVTech, I closed the window and called them. (BTW, it won't work with Firefox!! BOOOOO!!) I guess my records were still "fresh" enough that once she verified my address matched, I didn't have to tell her the other stuff I had filled in. At first she thought I wanted the full weather service (maps and all that) and was going to send me to a different division, but then I clarified some more and she was able to help me out. I signed up for 3 years, that's the shortest time with the most discount ($9.99 a month for the XM service, plus the NavTech service). I figured with the pro-rated refund, if I'm unhappy, it's not a big loss. (now if they go bankrupt however...)
I'm looking forward to looking for traffic jams tomorrow! ;-)
My wife and I are listening to channel 9 (90s) and already heard a bunch of songs we miss.

The traffic option really works well. It was auto rerouting me on the way home from work today to avoid a traffic jam. I wondered why it had changed the route until I saw the traffic alert.

| I can't add much to what has already been said about the 2730 except to say I couldn't be more pleased. The unit starts up reasonably fast, locks on to the birds well and the screen image is superb, even in direct sunlight. My unit sits on the dashboard. The fm modulator is okay but I had problems finding a clear spot on the fm dial with no bleed through of fm. It worked going in one direction, but when I reversed route I had bleedthrough. Bought a cheap cassette adaptor, plugged it in and annoyance solved. MP3 music really rocks, great sound and it mutes the music when nav data is required. |

Very good! And you guys will love XM, I will never go back to terrestrial radio, too many ads and too many bs jocks. XM gets down to business.
I'm liking what I'm hearing about the 2730 so far! Are you able to see county-by-county storm warnings? I heard you can but just wanted to verify. |

Yes, basic weather is included in the Navtraffic package and includes current conditions, forecast, county warnings and view on map.

I have a question about the memory card. Can you load waypoints / favorites on the memory card? That is the downside to the 2720 for me. I frequently add/delete favorites, but have to take the unit to the PC in order to do this. Looking to see if the 2730 lets you just pop in the memory card. thanks |

There's no memory card.
For those who have the 2720 and earlier units, is this normal? I like having the 2D with north up. In my old Garmin V, when I had this screen mode, there was no "North" pointer, because the top was always north. But when I set it this way in the 2730, it keeps a North pointer on the screen, pointing straight up all the time. Is this normal? Seems useless.

Oh. For some reason I thought it did. So to load MP3's and such, you still have to connect the unit to your PC? |
