The following are some of the comments I gave to gpspassion when he was writing his review:
The stability issue is a real problem. I've experienced items 2 and 4b also. Very annoying. I'm using a 3955 and was really disappointed in how slow the program is on this machine. It makes it unpleasant to use after being used to Mapopolis. I also agree on the slow re-routing. It would make the program hard to use at highway speeds where exits are close together. I also think you should mention the installation bug, because we have quite a few unsophisticated members who will be very confused by this. In my area, at least, the POI's are far better than
Overall, I was really looking forward to R2, but am very disappointed in it from the useability standpoint. Given the instabilities, I would not want to use it as my sole program on a long trip.
I forgot to mention that the map size, for NJ, is double the size of the Mapopolis maps. For the State of California, Mapopolis is 68.5 meg, and PocketMap is 202 meg. (I have all states, from both programs, on my machine if you ever need a size comparison of a particular item.)
I think you might mention that PocketMap is a big program, because of all the graphical bells and whistles, and might not be the best choice for some of the newer memory-limited machines now coming out. I tried moving the directory to the storage card, but the program doesn't accept this. The program, itself, can run from the storage card.
I also don't like the fact that it adds itself to the Start menu. This should be a user option, given the limited number of slots in this menu.
Also, see my earlier post about a bug in the installation process.
