Note by GpsPasSion : updated ActiveSync package for PLUS versions here. To activate AS, connect your Mio to your PC and soft reset de Mio
Hi All,
I have unlocked my MIO 269+
But I need to create a (oneclick) cab file with all the correct file reg setting, etc. Better still some else can create the cab file.
To unlock the 296+ you will need to unlock the MioTransfer.exe replace the mio calculator with a wince explorer.
Must go dinner time.

That's interesting, I have that .cab handy, but how do you "replace the mio calculator with a wince explorer" without opening the 269+ and swapping files on the MD ?

Hi gpspassion,
I am back.
I am modified the miotransfer.exe file that allows me to explore the mio storage card (I have been unable to explorer the whole device using the unlocked miotransfer) but this is enough to unlock the device. The items needs in the cab are:- links to:- \windows\miostartup, \windows\mioutility, \windows\mioshell, \windows\mioregedit, \storage card\applications\calculator\calculator2 (rename from calculator), \storage card\applications\pictureviewer\pictureviewer, \miomap\miomap
applications:- GSFinder2, BananaPC, showtaskbar, cecmd (Total commander), player (TCPMP), miotool (the is useful if you lose the taskbar). Note: mio 268+/269+ include a onscreen keyboard this is available on the taskbar.
others:- mio.reg (same as the mio 268/269), codecs for player (TCPMP).
Note: install applications on the storage card to avoid losing them during a hard boot (power off/on).
I can email you the modified miotransfer. |

Looking forward to that, I'll send you the .cab once it's "packaged", make sure you send a zip file so it doesn't get filtered out, thanks.

GPSpassion/llcool:
I hope you'll be coming out with a handy tool to unlock the Mio269+. I got mine (actaully 269) from the US but with contacts preloaded, so there wasn't a way to unlock it. However, there's no calculator function, so I hope I still get it done.
Cheers.

Hello,
Today I received my brand new Mio 268+ ! What a fine piece of navigation. Question: You are talking about un-locking the Mio 296+. I think you mean the Mio 269+ ? To do this you have to replace the calculator with the explorer? Where can I find the calculator on the Mio 269+ ? I thought the 269+ was similar to the 268+, except for the hard drive?

I have found two ways to unlock the 286+/296+
The second two ways does not require binary hacking.
1. Copy the MioMap DVD to your hard disk so you end up with a folder called MioMap.
2. Rename the custmio.cab to MioMap_english_20.cab
3. Copy the MioMap_english_20.cab to \MioMap\install\cabs_268\ overwrite the original file.
4. Switch on and connect your Mio to your PC via the UBS cable.
5. Run the \MioMap\setup.exe
6. Select English then select Install Mio Map 2.0
7. Select Install now with all selected languages.
8. PRESS CANCEL AS SOON AS YOU SEE ‘REMOVING OLD FILES….’
9. Unplug the Mio and power off/on (using the switch at the back).
10. Once the Mio is back on enter the date/time to continue the initialisation.
11. Once the installation is complete press the reset.
12. After the second installation you will be prompted to install Banana. Press enter (press down the round button on the left side of the Mio).
13. Your should have unlocked your Mio and see the Wince desktop.
Thank you for reading this….

Hi RattleBrain,
Did you follow step 8. If you did not the Navigator application will be removed.
Use the explorer to see if the \MioMap directory still exist or/and use the Remove Programs from the Control Panel.
As for the Contacts application it should be in the \Windows directory.

Hello llcool,
Yes, i did step 8 as fast as i can but during the installation process i get an error about missing the Navigon files. I see no \MioMap directory. The MioMap_english_20.cab is 7.907 kB and the custmio.cab is just 504kB. Is this the right one to use? Its part of the CustomioE.zip By the way; I found the contacts.

Hi RattleBrain,
I have seen this before that the Mio Navigator application disappears. So just reinstall it using the Mio tranfer. Copy the MioMap_english_20.cab to the Mio \MP3 directory using the Mio tranfer. Then on the Mio, double click the MioMap_english_20.cab using the Explorer to install. Job done! :) |

Hello llcool,
It works, Thanks! Now I have just one question left: Can I install Activesync so I will be able to communicate directly with my PC and install TomTom 5.1 on my Mio268+ ?

This is very interesting guys. I have just bought a mio 269+ as well. Would you happen to have some screenshots of the unlocked MIO 269+ so I can see what it looks like before I start doing this?
Thanks a lot |
