Very interesting indeeed, it seems Garmin is making good use of the newly found SiRFstarIII chipset, they can now focus on the software and the design ! 300 is Europe and 350 USA with a TMC option. Price seems rather high at $970 though.

I really like the direction they are going with this. It is a step between the PDA/PPC with GPS and the dedicated in-car units. The screen size in same as th Streetpilot C3xx series (propably the same touch screen), but with some of the advanced features of the 2720 (City Navigator v7, spoken name of street in navigation instructions and use of the "for fee" traffic service), in addition to a MP3 and audio-book player.
Most promising is that it's Garmin's first GPSr with a SD slot. No need to pay inflated prices for ever increasing memory storage, plus the unit fits easily in the hand.
As for the price, $970 is MSRP. The 2620 lists for $1072, but I found it on the web for $775. The 2720 lists for $1184, and I found that for $870. Based on a similar discounting the street price should be closer to the Quest 2 or C330, $550-$650.

Yes good points about MSRP and good catch on the SD alhtough they had started using standard formats with the CF on the SP2610. I think it's pretty exciting to see Garmin stop worrying about the GPS receiver and leaving that to specialists just using the best of what's available out there and focus on software and overall design, something they've excelled at over the years.

I love my 2720! However, the "Nuvi" may just replace it, given that it has a built in battery and can be updated and added to via an industry standard "SD" card!
The biggest problem I have with the 2720 is the deliberate "Dumbing Down" of the unit to the point that if you can't live with what it comes with, it's useless!
I have been frustrated with "favorites" that no longer exist and the fact that I can't revise existing "favorites" if they either need to be deleted or have their name changed. That with the fact that you can't add "shortcuts" to existing menus to get to say, "recalibrate".

Yes although I'm not sure the nüvi will have any of the advanced features that you're missing on the 2720, it will likely be similar to the C320, nice but simple.
