LOWRANCE iWAY FORUMS

Welcome to this new section of the forums. In keeping with the way GpsPasSion has operated since it was launched in the summer of 2002, forums get created when the volume of discussions concerning GPS software or hardware builds up and that we have at least one "dedicated forum member" who's offered to moderate/animate that section and this is what ST-bob did in an email recently, so there we go, make good use of it !

Thanks for the help setting this forum up. I'll be checking in frequently (as usual) and trying to learn as much as I can about the iWay as is possible for a non-Lowrance tech to know. Don't be afraid to ask questions - this forum is all about mutual support. Several members have come up with great answers and obviously Lowrance listened to us when we asked for new features in 1.4.0 software.

There are allot of good suggestions here. I wonder if any Lowrance engineers read them ?

I spoke with Luke (Tech Support Supervisor in the iWay group at Lowrance). Yes, he's well aware of this and a couple of other forums that discuss the iWay. He reads it occasionally from what I hear.
Many of the suggestions we've either called-in or posted here have shown up in version 1.4.0 and I don't think it's coincidence. I think Lowrance genuinely cares what their users want and makes an effort to provide it.
Another good reason to stick with the iWay. It can only get better with time. Keep those suggestions coming.

New to iWay, and this forum. Found a latent hardware defect in my iWay power cable... So iWay is sending a replacement. If the replacement cable has the same design defect (high chance of failure), I'll post the problem with pictures so others might be aware. Symptom is blown power cable fuses, seemingly random unless you know the cause. Also easy to fix if they listened to my complaint.

Hi All Jim here from the Land-O-Cheese,WI I have had my I-Way for only a week as I am not too PC Literate this is going too be more information overload for me.So I will have too take it slow & easy & with repetition too get all the info into my Brain Pan. ! question, The X in the upper right hand corner will sometimes not work when I tap on it, tried a quicker harder tap and will work a little better, the I made a Pointer made out of a piece of wood with a rubber end on it[a vacume plug from a car] this seems too work all the time. Will this have any adverse effects on the unit?I would also like too purchase a screen cover too protect the screen,is this advisable? Good-V-Bad for the I-Way? My pointer is really handy with the typing and number boards. I have many more questions but CRS is preventing me from getting them out of my brain.I hope my 1st post is not too long and vaque. Thank You All== Jim Oh & what does the term Quirks-sp? mean I think it's refering too the keyboard?
I just got my I-way and am trying too learn even the basics.Thank for creating this site. |

Go to the screen setup menu and calibrate the touch screen. If the screen doesn't act properly after that, call Lowrance and talk to tech-support about it. There were a certain number of bad touch-screens a while back and you may have one of those (or one from a new batch of bad ones).

Hi all, I am a member of a few truck forums but I'm relatively new to the GPS world even though I've owned a Garmin eTrex for quite a few years. This is my first 'Navivation' system so I'm anxious to get it (iWay 350c ordered online).
Anyway, great site... |

Wow, thanks for moderating, StBob!
I just ordered the iway 500c from buydig.com for $593.00 shipped.
I will use this on my motorcycle, and in our cars.
I am so psyched, I can hardly wait for it to get here!
BTW, I am in Danvers, MA. Howdy neighbor! |

I stumbled on this forum after buying a 500c. I must say I'm impressed with the amount of info.
Prior to owning the 500c I used the iFinder and have been completely satisfied with it's performance. It was used in my car and on my bike. I ride a 1953 BMW most of the time and it opened up a whole new world of roads.
So far I am impressed with the 500c in my car but since were still in the single digits, it's a bit to cold to try on the bikes. One hurdle I still have before spring in finding a voltage source. Since most of my bikes are 6 volt I'll need to be creative.
I have a bunch of question so I'll try to ask them in the appropriate areas. Thank you all for all the great info, especially ST-Bob.

I just ordered a XOG. It will be my first GPS experience. I found this forum, and hope it will help me learn the ropes. So, hello to my fellow Lowrance owners. |

Hey all. Just joined here. Stumbled across the Lowrance XOG recently and only knew of the depth/fish finders for boats before that. Ordered a XOG, will be delivered here tomorrow, because of the low price and all it can do (I hope).
Was going to get the Magellan Crossover last year so I could go from driving to hiking to boating, it just wasn't looking like it would be exactly what I wanted (to add a specific lake map).
My brother has a Garmin Nuvi (something) for driving directions, sister has a Magellan (Roadmate?), and only know those two a little bit from when they visited from Seattle. My GPS has been a Garmin eTrex Legend I use connected to a notebook computer for driving directions, and some geocaching. Not much done with it really and had wanted to do more with a GPS so began thinking of the multipurpose or crossover types.
Soooo... after finding the XOG I found GpsPasSion. Now I'm anxious to see how the XOG will fare and if a new and improved model will be offered someday. I would like to see improvements in the design, but I wonder if it can compete and be viable for Lowrance, still at a good price. I'm guessing the MapSelect feature was meant to offset the low price, so will be interesting to see how all that goes.
I expect to be posting/replying again, so thanks for the place to do this.

Welcome to the forums. Several members have Xogs (including your moderator) so you've definitely found the right place to be. I suggest you scroll through the first several pages of topics and find all the ones applicable to the XOG. There's a LOT of info but it's not all simple to find. A little reading will go a long way.
As to the future - nobody but Lowrance knows. I'd expect a new model out before the end of the year though. It would be nice to have an improved model with longer battery life. |

Next year or next summer would be plenty soon enough for me!
Thanks for the welcome.
Been reading and couldn't help notice the number one issue is with the battery. I hear things about SD cards draining batteries, makes me wonder if that's for real and if the XOG uses an internal SD card instead of RAM. I think you said you haven't opened up your XOG although you probably could do that sometime. I'd think it better to locate a broken one someplace. Anyway... gee, guess I should have posted a new message, or find a relevant one already started, if I was going to talk about battery life. Would be a long discussion.
