MIO A201 - WM5.0, GPS, BLUETOOTH 1.2

No big suprise given the success of the Mio 168, but Mio did have a successor planned too (the Oscar150 first appeared in Europe as the Yakumo DelatX) and it is called the Mio A201. The new features seen on the Yakumo are back of course: - Unlike the 168 antenna sits flush with the casing and rotates - Removable 1,200mAh battery - miniUSB plug for synching and recharging But the A201 adds essential Bluetooth connectivity (v1.2 for faster transfer speeds and lower power use) and will be WM5.0 based so that might entail 128mb of ROM. CPU is a PXA270 running at 312mhz.

I believe that unlike the DeltaX it is indeed some kinf of alloy, not that there's anything wrong with the rubbery plastic of the DeltaX mind you.

| I assume there is an SD slot and that it is I/O capable? As an aside, it would be nice of the manufacturers to include 2 slots if they don't intend to implement Wifi/WLAN radios. Wardriving with this beast will be essential so that that we can map all access points with GPS coordinates. |

I found this on the A201:
"The A201 (shown at right) features a rotating GPS antenna that allows users to navigate in both portrait and landscape modes, according to Mio. It, too, runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 520MHz PXA270 processor with Bluetooth support. The device also features the SirfStar III GPS receiver."

Can anyone confirm if the processor will be 520MHz or 315MHz? (the latter seems really weak for a brand new pda with the newest chipset.)

| Got MIO A201 Dec 05 (Xmas pressie). Unable to access www via bluetooth. Told by MIO support needed to wait for patch. Downloaded patch & instructions from 3 seperate sites but cannot patch my unit. MIO UK support number (0207-294-0074) now diverts to a premium rate number though their web page says its a local rate call. MIO's support pages for A201 are very sparse - same old 5 FAQ's since December. There does not seem to be many forums covering the MIO A201 but one suggests MIO acknowledge Bluetooth problems but blame the MS Windows O/S. Does anybody know the latest situation and has anybody else had problems with the patch? |
