| Don't see any obvious change in UI/feature/functionality. Still get population limitation warning at map selection time. Very likely a stable/release build of 3.09 beta. Jeremy? |

| From what I can tell using the 3.09 beta approach of "dynamic map loading", the memory consumption increased 6MB(!) from after map selection to after route creation (Again, N. CA to S. CA). Seems worse? Or could they figure out a differnt way of invoking the dynamic part? The only dynamic part left is as Idescribed: before route creation and after map selection. Still, significant amount of memory is used after map seleciton, though obviously not all parts of maps are loaded into memory (by comparing physical map sizes to the mem used in Mapopolis)... |

Hi gpspassion (yellow1 ),
Since you are most likely monitoring this thread, I'd like to say you really did a good job on providing information in general (H/W and S/W) on this web site. (As much as we hate each other - just kidding ). Keep up the good work! |

gpspassion,
Yes, with the misunderstanding cleared the "hatchets are burried."
I had thought about replying to your request on commenting your review in the other thread to which you link from your Mapopolis review page but then I thought this thread is a good place for the comment, too, since this is about the latest build. So here it goes:
Current version: (1) "Mapopolis don't advertise the latest version number on their website". They actually do it now by neumerous request. (2) "the latest enhancements being ..." I think you can change it to dynamic map loading now with 3.10 release, though the real working procedure/philosophy is still vague in this release.
Map Display: (3) Typo (sort of): "...let me (try) to clarify" should be "... let me (try to) clarify" (4) "Maybe one day there'll be a place for users to share their maplets" There is now as Jeremy put it. Right?
Routing: (5) Noe favoring freeways/highways, though not an option.
User Experience: (6) "... you can map 4 hardware buttons..." You know now it can do 6, though the sixth seems to be for Toshiba e70 and Dell Axim which have a "pressable" scroll button. Not sure, though.
- Weaknesses Map management and Memory USe (7) "Maps must be downloaded" This is still true for PPC version, isn't it? (8) "Starting with version 3.10, maps are now loaded "dynamically in memory", which is a big improvement as now RAM is no longer a limitation." It seems like available RAM is STILL a limitation because most map data (don't know which part of a map) are loaded into memory after a route is created. Maps are not unloaded on demand as of 3.09 beta. The stormy weather here now in the SF Bay area suggests me not to go out and do road test on the 3.10.
Navigation Dsplay: (9) "Right now, the map rotates only at 90 degree angles." That's right. No wonder sometimes it doesn't look like "heading up" ... (10) Snap to road: If under the surface "snapping to road" is already implemented, there's no point not to reflect it on the map/navigation display. However, I think there's a catch to it. That is, with the accuracy different GPS hardware has, snapping to road may present totally incorrect output. Over time, when all GPS devices have achieved higher accuracy and sensitivity, this is will probably not be an issue and "snapping to read" may be a must then. (11) Regarding distance measurement unit. I'm OK with any since I had been using the metric system from where I came from. I've used to the English system as well being here in the US for 10 years now. One thing ironic is that the US is probably one of the very few developed countries left that haven't converted to the metric system. Oh well. Anyway, I am used to the "feet" interpretation. You just have to look up the conversion between "mile" and "feet" in the beginning and later on you'll get used to approximately how far "500 feet" is. (12) "Cycle between screens ..." In fact, there has long been a built-in function for the D-pad button push to toggle showing/hiding the nav pane in order to get a full-screen map view.
Feature upgrades One feature I hope they can make it into the next build is the option to use "femail" voice prompt. I always feel that female voice with the "airport announcement" tone is the best fit for attracting driver attention, especially in the care when the radio/music is on. I find male voice less effective in that regard.
So some are corrections you should make according to the current release and others are my own suggestions/expectations. Hope these help.

Thanks for the input, I'll fix the review and make sure credit is given where credit's due ;-)
Oh by the way, I found something new in 3.10, when you go off-route there's a new kind of beep (lower tone). Don't know if it's my PPC, but the volume control in the settgins doesn't seem to work anymore.

Don't include me if you meant that. My input are trivial. Just want to help make a good web site even better.

Too bad can't road test 3.10 for a short period of time since I just used CompUSA tap to replace my e550G with the iPAQ H5455 ... Had a hard time deciding between it and the 3975. Couldn't resist seeing the H5455 box in front of me ... I'll need to get a CF sleeve then. Can you recommend a good leather case with built-in CF adaptor? (off topic, sort of)

Finaly got around to this...and added comments about the Grid maps tha have just been released Well I did credit you with posting comments which defintely adds to the review!
a few thoughts - (4), is this available now? I thought it was still sort of "dormant" - (5), not sure what you mean - (7), yes did you get the impression I was saying ot wasn't the case? - (8), weather isn't improving is it ;-) Are you saying that you would get a memory error if you don't have enough available, I'd think that it would just pen fewer maps? -(9), I think this is the largest remaining weakness of Mapopolis with ETA. I leave set to North now, but it's still confuing if you're in a "crush" -(10), we've alerady talked about this...I still don't see why they couldn't use the routing engine "snap to road" for map display. It might use up more ressources and slow down map display! I agree that it's not a big problem in any case. Newcomers might just think the program isn't working properly because the position moves off-road...
Voila!
