You should be able to connect your nuvi to your computer and use the Bobcat menu item to download those POIs directly from the device. Once they're in Bobcat you can write them to a GPX file or whatever else you need. This works fine on my MacBook Pro.
As to why Bobcat won't import from the GPX file I make, I don't know. There's a good chance that the features of GPX format I use aren't quite compatible with what Bobcat expects to see. Software is meant to be liberal and just ignore stuff it can't read, but it might be really fussy and just reject the entire file. If loading directly into the program doesn't work for you post again and I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong. |

Thanks Simon, I appreciate the response. The issue with Bobcat importing directly from the Nuvi is that it will only pick up those stored in "Favorites" and not the Custom POI's in "Extras". The .csv files I had were very simple in terms of a Lat, Lon, and Description. I liked the way your csv2gpx utility would look for a matching image also (like POI Loader) as that would have been ideal.

Hi Everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post. I purchased a 1390T (Garmin Nuvi) and was told that I could install a custom POI for alerting me for a speed of 30 kmh on a certain school zone street. Can anyone show me how or where this could be done. I would like it for Sorbonne Street in Brossard, Quebec, Canada between the streets Rivard and Pelletier.
Please help! It switches there from 50 to 30 and then back to 50 again on Pelletier right after the school.
Thanks Muchly! |

Welcome to the forums.
Yes, read the first message and you'll find a link for "20090416 : New guides for POIs and TourGuides" with more more information than you bargained for most likely ;-) |

New v2.6.0.0 available : http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=927quote: Changes made from version 2.5.4 to 2.6.0:
* Added ability to specify a custom POI file's name * Added ability to handle swapped lat and lon values in CSV files * Fixed issue with multi-line CSV files not being read correctly * Fixed issue with extended ASCII characters in CSV files * Fixed issue with reading large gpx and csv files making the application unresponsive
Nothing earth shattering, better support of "odd" characters it seems ;-) |

Anyway we can expect newer release cause 2.7.0 has probable bug with filename if you are sending data to "Garmin Device". Filename got extension .poi
Correct filename is folder_name.gpi as everybody (except Garmin engineers) knows. Sending data to "Computer" (using ver. 2.7.0) is correct. |

I'm sorry to tell ... Garmin behaves like novice. From some time (maybe one/two years) I have a mistrust of their applications (see also Garmin Lifetime Updater problems). Where are beta-testers, where is Garmin's QC ? Mom, where am I ?
Beetl(e)dit: BTW I can't believe so extension: .poi will be available for Garmin devices in the future. For now, mentioned file isn't visible for them.
If you (GpsPasSion) decide it isn't constructive critique feel free to delete my post. |
