Good catch by james here http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=47458
"Updated today Jan 23. v2.2.1
http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00401-00
Now to try it out, James
================================================ Changes made from version 2.0 to 2.2.1:
Added support for reading POIs from GPX files. You can now create POIs in MapSource and load them in POI Loader. See product Help for more details. Added support for comment lines in .CSV files that start with ';' or '#'. This allows .CSV files created by programs like PoiEdit to work without modifications. Added support for a fourth column in the .CSV file for POI details. This was an unadvertised feature in 2.0. Added support for embedded line-breaks in the name and comment fields of .CSV files. This allows you to enter multi-line comments like addresses. See product Help for more details. Added support for longitude and latitude to be quoted. Added Palm support to support the iQue 3000. Increased maximum alert proximity range to 65km/37miles. Monochrome images (1bit per pixel) are now sent to the unit correctly. Fixed translation and layout issues for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. If the new POIloader works as advertised, it will be great. You can use GPXtoPOI to convert from CSV to GPX, and then manage everything as a GPX/MapSource file.
GPXtoPOI will still be useful for converting outside lists, spreadsheets and coordinate lists to GPX format, but you won't need it to go the other way anymore.

See POI thread for my other post, but GPX format allows for independent selection of BOTH speed and proximity.
Previously the Proximity defaulted to 10% of the speed (eg 60kmh was alerted at 600 metres)
Now you can select 40km and alert at (say) 200 metres, by deselecting Unknown on the proximity checkbox, and entering a distance on the Mapsource waypoints properties tab.
This will be great for minimising false alerts. |

| Has anybody in the Fremont CA area started a database for the traffic cams at the intersections? I work a lot in Fremont and most of the major intersections have cameras now to catch red light runners. I might just start one and see what happens. |

| On using the new POI Loader and the new Beta 5.1 software for the C320 ... I seem to no longer get the customised bit maps working for POIs such as speed cameras. Anyone else seen this problem? |

Can someone better explain the naming of the CSV file for PRoximity Alerts? I have a 2720 and load about 12 CSV files manually. I have to specify each Proximity alert ( no speed alerts needed).
Is there a way to change the name of my CSV file so that the 2720 knows i want only proximity alerts at a set distance?
I read the garmin poiloader help file and i am still confused.
lets say I have a file called FDNY.csv and want to be alerted whenever i am in proximity of 1000 feet to any location. What should i rename the CSV file to? remember, I only want proximity alerts, no speed alerts.
thanks |

The Help tab of POIloader and the Help links found there will give you some good explanation. First, if your file name contains certain Key Words (e.g. Redlight, Camera, etc.) POIloader will automatically determine it to be an alert requested file. If no speed/distance is specified, a default proximity distance of 400 meters will be used for alert, speed 0.
Otherwise, when you use POIloader, at the last screen just before it does its thing, click where it usually says "Express Mode" and change it to "Manual Mode". Then you will see a screen that allows you to enter prox distances and/or speeds as desired.
Haven't tried this, but for Redlight or Camera, for example, if you put a distance in the title of the file as well (a plain number, no unit) it should use that as the distance using the unit (ft/meters) you had specified in POIloader at the same screen where you find "Express" and "Manual".
I have used the method where Camera was in the title, and it provided the default prox dist alert of 1312 ft (400 meters) in my Nuvi.
Hope it works for you!

I have a Garmin 2720, and I loaded some POI's with a proximity alert of 1000 feet.
The alerts only seem to go off if i'm on the actual street (around the corner will not work).
Is this correct, or should it be a 1000 foot radius from my position? |

Well I think you have to be approaching the target of the alarm, because it is intended to be an alert for you to know that you are approaching a traffic control area. However, that is my assumption, not fact, but that is the way it seems to work.

I read thru the 6 pages and gathered a bit of info but there is still one thing going wrong with my sp7200. I don't see proximity alerts for tim hortons. I have the tim hortons csv file loaded. I drove by 2. nothing. I get speed alerts. Drove by costco (have the costco csv loaded. Nothing. I have a little over 13,000 poi's loaded. I routed to a tim horton and simulated. No icon, no alert. I can see the custom poi's loaded from Where To? > Extras > Custom POI's. However, Tools > My Data > Custom POI only has delete all. I assume they are there. Any clues? |

The fix for this is to make sure that the bmp files have the same name as the csv files. Try as I might, I could not get line breaks to be recognized on the sp7200. I don't think this is working. For one, the display is on one line in the sp that alternates between an alert and a caution. It also seemed to totally ignore the 4th parameter in the CSV file.
One good way to have good icons is to download them from the site, say lexus.com. Load the gif file in paint and stretch the image by 10 percent or so. That will usually cut it down to a 24 ish pixels. Once the size is right, save it as a bitmap. It's the real deal, no cheasy hand drawn image.
Also, the sp doesn't necessarily limit to a 24x24 image. I'd suggest keeping it around that size otherwise it gets to big on screen but bigger sizes don't look stretched. I have lexus(canada), acura(ON), indigo/chapters(GTA and toronto area malls as poi's. I'll test them on the weekend and upload them.
