UPDATED 20110203 : Google recently launched the Follow Your World site that lets user specify areas for which they would like to be informed of satellite map updates, nifty and free of course! All you need is Google account, and it works directly if you already have a Gmail account.
UPDATED 20100311 : Bike routes now available in Google Maps, see details on page 2. UPDATED 20090202 : Google Earth 5 beta now available : http://earth.google.com

Apparently you can also download routes from a GPS, not sure what that means since you could already open GPX files.

| I want to get the $20 upgrade for use with GPS but when you click on the GPS function it looks like it only supports Garmin and Magelin |

It looks like you need to download & install Google Earth. For MSN Earth all you need is your browser.

Now that is cool. Can you somehow download maps and use them with your PPC or Palm?

| Google can do that. We should find out if it's true. |

It might be me, but:
Whenever I add placemarks, it adds them to the bottom of Places, instead of the top. I am used to them being added to the top.
Selecting items in Places is very erratic, or at least can be. I might just go back to a previous version, even though the "points" in a path being edited are small. |

| Interesting. Is it now culturally acceptable in some countries to point a camera at people to take a photograph of them without asking them for their permission? |
