UPDATED 20110203 : Google recently launched the Follow Your World site that lets user specify areas for which they would like to be informed of satellite map updates, nifty and free of course! All you need is Google account, and it works directly if you already have a Gmail account.

UPDATED 20100311 : Bike routes now available in Google Maps, see details on page 2.
UPDATED 20090202 : Google Earth 5 beta now available : http://earth.google.com
quote:
Google Earth 5.0 (beta) features:
* Historical imagery from around the globe
* Ocean floor and surface data from marine experts
* Simplified touring with audio and voice recording
Apparently you can also download routes from a GPS, not sure what that means since you could already open GPX files.

UPDATED 20080502: New v4.3 version for GE - brings revised map controls, not necessarily for the better, shows the date of the detailed aerial maps, adds steetview premiered on Google Maps but more immersive here and lets you simulate the travels of the sun on the globe.
UPDATED 20070902 - GE v4.2 now has a flight simulator, see below for details.

Google is now offering Keyhole free, called Earth. It was always free but this version is less taxing on the PC ( no APPLE support) there a re about 5 upgrades, the first one for $20 lets you use a GPS and *.CSV files

http://earth.google.com/index.html

Fabulous ! I wonder if MSN's announcement of "MSN Earth" has anything to do with this ;-)

It looks like you need to download & install Google Earth. For MSN Earth all you need is your browser.

Now that is cool.
Can you somehow download maps and use them with your PPC or Palm?

Activate it by hitting CTRL+ALT+A and mind the crash, hopefully someone will find an auto-pilot feature !

Google can do that. We should find out if it's true.

It might be me, but:

Whenever I add placemarks, it adds them to the bottom of Places, instead of the top. I am used to them being added to the top.

Selecting items in Places is very erratic, or at least can be.
I might just go back to a previous version, even though the "points" in a path being edited are small.

Interesting. Is it now culturally acceptable in some countries to point a camera at people to take a photograph of them without asking them for their permission?
