you had mentioned that you were successful in getting the Navman into SIRF mode. What software did you use? I've tried the one linked from the Navman page and was unsuccessful. It does get me into the SIRF mode but will not acquire a signal.
another question was: did you try the navman sleeve with destinator version? How did it work? |

Hi, Yes I was able to switch the Navman into Sirf mode using CE Monitor, there' a how to here: http://www.gpspassion.com/Software/PPC%20Navigation/Notes_s.htm#cemonito r Some can't get it to work, if you can't can you post the numbers on the sleeve label, there might be several versions around ! Yes the sleeve works fine with Destinator, there is an update every 2 seconds vs the 1s of other receivers, but that's not a huge problem. Do you use the sleeve with CoPilot ?
I hope you'll find the RAM calculations useful Some more testing today. It seems the routing doesn't priviledge freeways enough. I"ll have some examples over the week-end comparing the routes to those chosen by Destinator, Mapopolis and CoPilot

| Thanks for the info, you've got the 3420 right like me so it seems that more recent version works. Maybe there is an older revision after all ! |

Sorry, don't know how to use quotes from your review for reference. You mentioned to "let them know whether you want that feature to be addeed to the software only version!" It would be helpful if you have an e-mail address or contact to direct this helpful comment information to. Need to be sure the comments get to the right person. Me? I would like the option to choose my GPS receiver (Leadtek, Transplant BT), not be forced into using one I don't normally use. Thanks. |

Hi GPSPassion:
___Newbie here with no experience with a GPS other than living on the net for the past week trying to find out what its all about. Your site certainly helps in that regard ;)
___The new TravRoute CoPilot’s GPS Jacket looks to be the best Jacket with the newer chipset but how does its TravRoute based US maps compare to Destinator’s and Navman 3420’s Navtech based maps? TravRoute’s US maps sounds like a distant second by the comments posted around the net. Also, does SmartST Pro’s SW allow the arrow to always be pointing up while driving?
___I am looking for a mouse or sleeve based GPS that can be used with a Navtech US map based SW solution on an iPAQ yet have most of what TomTom’s Navigator offers their European customers or the SmartST Pro w/ a Navtech based US map solution here in the states. I am wondering what the external Navman antennae or the new Navman sleeve’s TTFF performance is really like in the real world? The Destinator’s mouse based GPS appears to be weak from the web reviews and the SW is not only expensive but limited in scope compared to what you have posted about the latest Navman SmartST Pro 3420. TravRoute’s selection of Navtech for the Europeans sounds ideal and I can only hope they will do the same for the US but I did not see anything listed of that sort anywhere.
___Is there anything on the Horizon (3 – 6 months out?) that offers a great TTFF in the automobile (internal sleeve or Mouse/external antennae) along with a Navtech based US map(s) and the Navman 3420’s or TomTom Navigator’s SW look and feel for the US in particular? The SmartST Pro looks like a great SW solution minus the traveling Up arrow (does it have this feature?) and the missing Navtech maps … I have read that MS’s Street’s and Trips as well as Delorme’s SA 2003 have the best POI’s for the Laptop users and would love to see a bit more from the PPC solutions in that regard as well.
___Finally, how good do the 12-channel GPS sleeves or mouse work in the car? Do they stay locked in for hours on end or do they continually drop out and than reacquire enough birds to keep the location true on the map?
___Anyway, this post is from an absolute GPS newbie looking for a similar yet much less expensive Automobile solution than what the current 03 Acura MDX offers minus its (2-way) voice activation and the internal ability to track without sat? I hope I have not wasted your time by asking questions that you have already answered in your SmartST Pro review.
___Thanks again.

I have to run, but I'll respond to this in detail later. Judging by your questions, it looks like you did a LOT of research. Glad my site was able to help in that respect. I think you've singled out the important issues. I'll be back with more later. SmartST does have the "arrow up"/"Track Up" feature as an option with the added bonus that when you go to the third navigation screen it gradually reverts back to "North Up" to help you find your bearings.

I'm back. I'll create another "what to buy thread" and make a sticky out of it ;-)

I bought a Navman 3420 and I really like it. Plus's are Sw very easy to use Routeing very logical (even wheh you go a different way)(. rerouting fast and logical Auto zoom nice POI a lots and and varied. Navtech maps are excelent (the reason to pick out a gps) the voice prompts are understandable and are loud enough.
Minus The antenna can pop off The pop can be improved by including the whole address instear of the street that it is on. The Biggie inprovememt is the street db doesn't bring 75% of the address.
