It seems Mapopolis are giving details ahead of the 10/15/02 launch of Mapopolis Navigator !
http://www.mapopolis.com/home.jsp?s=1034549930203311&p=&q=78384.74032614844
"Navigator - $89.85 per year
dynamic door-to-door navigation with voice prompting, including all Platinum features, for Pocket PC, requires GPS device, map region limited to 20 million population, maps expire after one year"

This is unexpected news, it seems like the maps will not be by county this time around!

These are my thoughts on the price increase. I don't have any privileged info and I'm not trying to defend or accuse anyone, but something tells me that the new pricing is *related* to the new (at leat newly announced) deal with NavTech.

I'm hoping that the "map region limited to 20 million population" feature of Navigator will indeed make them offer maps with such coverage, but then they'll have to change the way maps are loaded into RAM. This will surely take time. If indeed they plan to offer these larger maps, they could/should have gotten it ready for the rollout of Navigator.

Right now Navigator *appears* to be offering nothing more than Platinum+GPS with the "hardware button Active guidance toggle trick"
