You can use any .wav file as long as you give it the file name iGuidance needs. But the problem you very likely come across when trying to use voice files from other products is that they may not necessarily say exactly the words iGuidance says. But give it a try and let us know if you managed to do it to your satisfaction.

Record your own voice prompts
Hi Meowmeow,
Welcome to GpsPasSion Forums!
Yes, it is indeed possible to create your own voice files and use them instead of the existing iGuidance sounds. Technically it is easy; the only difficult part is to find a person who has a nice voice appropriate for this project. I like the original iGuidance female sound of both the North American and also the European version. (Hmm, actually the European version lady talks a bit too slow for my liking ;-)
All that you need to do is to replace the original sound files *.wav located in the following folders on PC or PocketPC.
iGuidance North America: \Program Files\iNav\iGuidance\Snd
iGuidance Europe: \Program Files\iNav\iGuidance Europe\Snd
You will need software for recording and editing sounds. A free one is available for download here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
If you manage to create something that you feel is even better than the original iGuidance voice, please share it with us!

Hi all, new to post here, but been lurking for a long while. I found this older post and just wanted to let anyone who cares know I have created a semi decent port of the Garmin British voice to iGuidance. If you are interested, send a message.
That's all for now |

Marvin, thanks for the welcome!
Here is the file:
http://www.gpspassion.com/upload/Snd.zip
Just unzip and replace the existing Snd directory in \Program Files\iNav\iGuidance\. Remember to back it up first though ;P.
Just a note, this is not going to be very good yet for those not on the metric system. Garmin uses feet, iGuidance uses yards. I did not have anything to replace "yards" or "three quarters" with, but am working on it.
Also, so far I have only taken one short test run, but the results are great in my opinion.
Cheers!

Hi Marvin,
Just wanted to say keep up the great work you are doing in this forum. :)
Just received the new iGuidance 3.0 and I must say it looks pretty good. (I purchased based on you giving it such high praise). I have Fugawi and MS S&T 2006 and I must say the ppc version of this program looks awesome.
Can we start a new sticky for customization of Version 3???? Being a new user I don't know what features were added in the new version and what can be customized.
Thanks
Speedy2

Hi Speedy2,
Thanks. Yes, this thread has become quite long and covers tweaks that are no longer needed in version 3.0. Or they may not work in 3.0, either. Starting a new thread would be one solution. Another possibility would be to mark "3.0" the compatible tweaks in the index on page 1.
I myself am at this point undecided whether or not to switch to 3.0 from my 2.1.3 because of the lack of keyboard control of many functions in this new version. In all previous iGuidance versions it was possible to navigate all menus with keyboard, but now a mouse is necessary.

| It sucks that a mouse is necessary for iGuidance 3. Surely iNav Corporation does understand users want to navigate all the menus with a keyboard. I love iGuidance, but grow tired of having to use the silly mouse! |

Yes. It's likely not too big inconvenience for an occasional user, but I suspect many people who spend money on GPS do so because they may need it for work, or they just simply drive a lot. For such users this sudden inability to move around menu windows with just arrow keys and select menu buttons with the Spacebar and/or Enter-key is a step back in functionality. Let's hope iNav will push the programmers to bring the feature back in the future.
I'm working on a new version of iGkeys. The previous version was created with an automation utility called AutoHotkey. That software unfortunately can no longer access some of the menu buttons in iG 3.0. There is a bit more functional utility called AutoIt which does seem to be able to address the buttons we need. But it may take me a while to get new iGkeys version ready because scripts in AutoIt are created differently from what I was used to, so I will have to go thru the painful process of learning something new :-)
But even when iGkeys is done, it will only help the few users who use it. Other laptop users will still be unable to do such basic functions like enter destination with only a keyboard. Hopefully a patch will be released soon to fix this handicap of iG 3.0.

I spent a sleepless night, and then starting at 4am I spend several agonizing hours learning new stuff :-) At this point the new version of iGkeys is about 75% done and functional :-) I just need one more "slow" day at work to complete it. Hopefully within a week a new version could be posted for free download. Now is a good time for anyone to let me know if there was some annoyance in the previous version or a feature request.
When new version is ready, I will also post instructions how I did it and the code. Then anyone will be able to modify it for their own personal needs or for all of us.

| Thank you Marvin for all the effort you are putting into the project of getting a new version of iGkeys for iGuidance version 3. :-) |
