I am trying the 10 day trial of Memory Map Navigator. I have read a lot of the posts on this forum concerning this product, but have not quite figured out how to do what I want. In this topic: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13069 there was a discussion about using 3rd party DRG's, and someone mentioned writing a step-by-step guide. Did that ever happen?

The particular problem I'm having is that the DRG's for my area (East Tennessee) are in the State Plane Coordinate System. Here is the metadat from the data sever:

Horizontal Coordinate System Definition:

Planar:
Grid Coordinate System:
Grid Coordinate System Name: State Plane Coordinate System 1983
State Plane Coordinate System:
SPCS Zone Identifier: 4100
Lambert Conformal Conic:
Standard Parallel: 35.25
Longitude of Central Meridian: -86
Latitude of Projection Origin: 34.333
False Easting: 1968500
False Northing: 0
Planar Coordinate Information:
Planar Coordinate Encoding Method: Coordinate Pair
Coordinate Representation:
Abscissa Resolution: 8
Ordinate Resolution: 8
Planar Distance Units: survey feet
Geodetic Model:
Horizontal Datum Name: North American Datum of 1983
Ellipsoid Name: Geodetic Reference System 80
Semi-major Axis: 20925604.47
Denominator of Flattening Ratio: 298.26

I assume I need to create a PROJ.DAT and a DATUM.TXT file to go in the same directory as the .tif and .tfw files that are part of the DRG. The question is what needs to go in the PROJ.DAT file? Is this even supported (SPCS that is)? Any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to use the following:

Datum.txt:

WGS84

Proj.dat:

+proj=lcc
+lat_1=36.416667
+lat_2=35.250000
+lat_0=34.333333
+lon_0=-86.000000
+x_0=600000
+y_0=0.0

Let me know if this does not work (and the error you get).
