GPS Tuner is wonderful progam for Off-roading, having been named Best "GPS - Geocaching" application for 2005 & 2006 by PocketPC Magazine's "Best Software" competition. There is a free two week (14day) demo with full functionality, however, it does have limitations on several functions:
- You can record tracklog up to 250 points only.
- You can record area up to 50 points only.
- You can not use GPS Share system.

For those in the United States with a PDA/GPS setup take a look at Backcountry Navigator. For $30.00 dollars you get all the pre-calibrated USGS topo and aerial photos you want. BCN also records, imports and exports waypoints and tracks. It also handles geocaching files well.

Besides price, the biggest advantage I see in BCN is the use of the pre-calibrated maps. I have always had trouble getting maps to calibrate accurately with other GPS software in its price range.
One other thing, the tech support is top notch.
I am surprised Backcountry Navigator has not received more attention from the PDA/GPS media.
