I will leave commenting on the application interface to others here as I don't use them. But to get back to factory default settings is easy with SiRFDemo: switch to SiRF binary mode, open the restart menu and select factory restart. Send the message and SiRFDemo should show that it has lost contact with the receiver (Comm errors showing up in the Error View window). Close SiRFDemo and restart your application.

Hi all. I'm a stupid software developer that selected "user 1 protocol" in sirfDemo.
Obviously, my RTB-2001 does not respond to my commands anymore.
I have removed the battery for some hours in order to reset infos inside of the backed-up ram but nothing happened.
I have opened the unit in order to find out some backup battery or capacitor. But where is hidden?! I'm still reading 2.5 Volt on battery connector... so some charge must be somewhere. No way to discharge (maybe there's a filtering diode on power supply...).
The only place where I have no looked in is into the shielded circuit under the ceramic antenna.. I'll like to use my gps unit some more time...
I hope to be not off-topic. And forgive me for my bad english.
I'll be pleased to get some help... hardware or software...it does't matter.
Thanks in advance for all.
Regards, Valerio.

Welcome to the forums.
Sorry to hear about your mishap, I'm not positive this type of setting can be altered even by letting the battery run out. Try turning the unit on/off without the battery or leave it off for 1+ week, if that doesn't thelp you'll have to send back to RBT I'm afraid.

If you can drain off that voltage, it will definitely fix the issue. So keep trying. Some of the manufacturers put Lithium-Ion batteries on the battery backup pin, and those can stay alive for up to a few days.

Even if we did, it wouldn't be the latest version! Every time SiRF develops some new feature or new chip or new software, they release an engineering version of SiRFDemo to support it internally. Even I can't keep up. When or if they decide to release publically a new version that will be done by the Marketing people rather than by us support types.

Hi to all.
I am a new member of the forum.
I have a HAICOM HI-405-III which is a bluetooth SIRFIII GPS receiver.
I connect it to LapTop through cable (the gps has a mini 1394 port, I use a 1394 to USB interface cable provided by HAICOM).
On the LapTop I run the SirfDemo program (vers. 3.81). I can connect to GPS in NMEA protocol and see all the valid data coming form the GPS in the "Debug View" window.
The problem is that when I try to switch to sirf mode (\Action\Switch to SIRF protocol) the communication with the GPS stops and no data are coming. I tried to set to different baud rate speed but no communication with the GPS.
Any ideas of how to change to SIRF protocol????
Thank you in advance.

Yes, the 1394 port does not have all the connections required to send commands to the GPS, you'll have to do it over Bluetooth.

Hi GPSPassion & Carl&SiRF. Thanks for the answers.
I finally solved the problem opening the rbr-2001 and removing for some seconds the button battery hidden into the metallic shield.
The unit now works perfectly. I can give some support if someone else has the same problem, anyway you should think about this solution only if you're skilled on printed circuit soldering...
Now I'm more relaxed and I can better introduce myself.
I'm planning to write an open source application for getting data on a mobile supporting J2ME+ JSR-82 using sirf binary format. The first step will be parsing data and showing it on display, switching between nmea and sirf protocol (no user1 protocolol, please...) and turning sbas on/off.
I'll do this on my (very) little spare time. Suggestions, help or ideas are welcome.
Thank you,
Valerio.

I haved the same problem with rbt2001 (user1 protocol latency).
I've resolved without use of soldering iron for remove backup battery.
1) Open the gps reciever.
2) On the printed circuit on the back there is same circular branch dots and at the sides of the circuit there is some rectangular holes rounded with branch (ground point).
3) With the voltmeter i have found where is the dot with some volts (i don't remember how many) respect to ground (rectangular holes) .
4) When i found this dot (it is near the power switch), i've shortcircuited this point with one of the rectangular holes for two-three second.
5)After that you have resetted your RBT20001!
Sorry for my bad english.
I hope to help someone

I made the same stupid "User1" error with SirfDemo and RBT-2010. Using Mrjack69 instructions and some fantasy finaly found this magic reset point

So, instructions
0. Remove external battery
1. Open GPS - not so easy but duable
2. Put power switch in position "on"
3. Shortcircuit marked point with ground for 3-4 sec
4. After (3) in this point should be 2 volts instead of 2.5 V
5. Check - if it started to work before reassembling

Good luck

My BT-388 (this is my second device) doesn't find any satellite. When I do cold start in SirfDemo 3.81 with Clear User Data in Battery Backed User Data I get message in subject. My first device works exactly same way and was replace with this new one but now this happend again. Is there any solution to clear this user data area with SirfDemo or any other way. No factory reset help with this problem or taking battery out from device (over 8 hours). Any hardware solution plz or anything.
