I recently downloaded the set of highway maps discussed on another part of the board. Unfortunately, the download was big -- 11MB, for all US states for both Palm and PPC. That, however, seems to be the only drawback.
The maps are Platinum-level. They recognize each-other and other Platinum maps as "contiguous". I've got a trip coming up for Thanksgiving. I had 11 enhanced maps (5MB) for those counties with the NJ Turnpike. I replaced them all with one 200MB Platinum NJ highway map. It found directions from my house in Maryland to my sister in Hoboken. Very cool!
I haven't tested my GPS yet with these maps. When I get back from New York, I'll let you know. |

Highway maps? Holy ****! Been waiting for those! I'mma go get some RIGHT NOW! Mapopolis just keeps getting better and better! If you'd get a navigator for palm 4.x, you'd be getting more of my money..... -Todd |

Are there any highway maps for Canada Palm? What would be great, if you could use say the highway maps as filler between counties. So if you are in a county with a map, that map gets used. But once you leave that county and there is no map for the next county, go back to the highway map...automatically.

Yes, I meant 200KB Platinum NJ highway map.
Unfortunately, I've been sworn to secrecy about getting the highway maps. But I'm free to tell you that once they're released, you will want them. |

Jeremy asked for beta testers for these maps in one of his messages to this forum. Check his posts |

| I have to say that the Highway maps are great! It's the best compromise to solve the problem of dynamically loading maps. |

I'm still confused as I can't see where Jeremy asked for beta testers! Anyway, the arrival of these maps is great news.
Has anyone else noticed strange routes apparently due to segments not being connected on the highway maps. Oddly enough it doesn't happen on all the time but sometimes when I calculate a route from San Franciso to Las Vegas, it can't see the connection between 58 and 15 around Barstow and recommends a drive through 95 instead which is a huge detour.

| Hymie, How did you load 200MB maps in to the memory. I have an iPAQ. If the maps size exceeds about 50MB, I will start getting errors. |

I'm now using the highway maps, and they are just plain cool. One thing I've been wondering is say you have the bronx map, the NY Highway map, the CT Highway map, and the Hartford county map. Will it load all 4, and give the normal county maps built in/overlapped with the highway maps. This would really help alot if I was to say want house-to-house directions, without loading god knows how many megs of maps. This is what I'd really like to see, but haven't tried it yet..... -Todd |

It works as I thought. It loads them together seamlessly. So that when it runs out of the county, it gives just the highway data, to give you house to house directions, only needing the county maps for the ones you want. Only thing I could think of is supplying rest areas into the highway maps? I think that would be nice (or gas stations and such). Be nice on a trip where you don't know anything. You can plan your stops! -Todd |

And just as a side note, It's kinda funny to see a lake that spreads across 2 counties to just end at the end of a county =] |
