Hi, All,
Thank you for participarting in this map preview. It is now closed and the link below now goes to the regular maps.
Lamal
Hi, all,
Mapopolis has made available special "preview" demo versions of the "NE" North American (US/CAN) and Western European maps. Anyone interested in seeing what the new maps will look like can log in the website this way:
Username: demo@demo.demo Password: demo
Note that the Scandanavian countries have not yet been generated.
Also note that these maps are a PREVIEW, and it's certainly not guaranteed that they won't change before the release.
About the European "ND" maps. We actually did generate a complete release based on Q2 data, but our CEO was not happy with all of it, and we did not release it. These maps are ALL based on Q3 data.

Any chance on a MajorRoad map? Also, what's the list of areas updated since ND?

Looking at the demo NE map for my area (New London, CT), in the city of Groton (zip of 06340), on Mitchell St, is quite disturbing. There's still no Cumberland Farms listed, but thinking about it now, it's an unlisted number, so maybe that's why it's not in there. The problem is, if they are going by street address, why is it there are STILL places that are on the opposite side of the road? Also, 1 place on there (Pizza Today), is listed, this place is less than 6 months old, but yet Crosstown Deli, not a few hundred feet away on the map, has been gone over a year, and is now a "Subway". I'd be quite curious to find out where they are getting thier updated data from, because they can't be out surveying the roads......

Ok, sorry for the post floods, but it appears they HAVE been out surveying roads. A new developement that has only been around 6 months is now on the map. Problem is, right down the road, there's a new Big Y store, that's still listed as Stop & Shop. My guess is that the POI's are still outsourced, so if we can find out who does them, maybe we can get them fixed quicker!

First glance: the POI for London (UK) are considerably enhanced over the previous version. Even if not everything checks out I have to say that this is a huge improvement. And the River Thames is now showing up correctly, no more wet feet!
Oxfordshire map also looks better than before. To be fair the only comparison I am making is with Mapopolis NC maps and not any other product, which may be better but correspondingly far more expensive.

Hi, Todd,
The Major Road Maps have not been generated yet. NAVTEQ bases their POIs for the US on Dunn & Bradstreet's North American City Listings. I don't know WHO their source is in Europe.

Ok, what's thier website? Also, how are the poi's listed in the raw data, as lat/long or street address? -Todd

It has a place to update and correct POIs, and I'm SURE they love to receive them. I have no idea how they are listed in the raw data. That's not my department.:-)

Spoke a little too soon: the Oxfordshire Southern Bypass-pass repetition is still in there. Would this be a Navteq tag or Mapopolis issue? It isn't a big deal as such, more a curiosity but maybe it masks something else?
Lamar, here's what I mean: use Oxfordshire (England) map. 1) Choose (for illustration) Abingdon Four Pillars (Hotel) as Start. 2) Choose North Oxford BMW (Auto Dealership) as End. 3) Check step 8 for correct pronounciation of Northern Bypass Road.
or, with same start 2) Choose St Clements Street as End. 3) Check step 5 for the Southern Bypass Pass Road glitch.

The NE demo maps for Macomb and Wayne counties in Michigan have the water features all screwed up. Namely much of the Detroit river and a big part of Lake St. Clair that separate us from Canada are missing. It looks like solid empty land instead. This was not a problem in the ND maps, but seems to be messed up in the new maps.

The NE map for Dublin is much improved, and has some relatively recent updates. Also good to see that the River Liffey is back!
Some funnies though in relation to co-existence with the County Wicklow map which borders it to the south. Firstly there is an expanse of water to the east of Dublin (the Irish Sea!) which appears on the Wicklow map rather than the Dublin map, and it appears to be impossible to load both the Dublin and Wicklow maps at the same time.
If it's any help the Wicklow map appears to have not been updated at all ... maybe it's an old map "in disguise" and therefore won't cooperate with the updated Dublin map? |
