Hi,

A very simple question. Does Streets and Trips have voice prompting? I want to drop Street Atlas like a hot potato (I can't handle the user interface), but without voice prompting, Street and Trips will not work for me. Too much heads down time.

Hi Jerryk,

Don't drop Street Atlas yet ;-) MS Streets & Trips 2005 does not have voice prompts.

Judging by the number of users and potential users of S&T asking about voice prompts I trust Microsoft is working on it. Likely a year from now the topic of discussion will be the quality of it and not the lack of it.

What are the main reasons you don't like SA?

Hi Marvin,

That is to bad about Streets and Trips. Maybe I will load up MapPoint and go with the voice add-in.

Regarding SA, I find the user interface to be very confusing. The product seems to be trying to be too many things at once. What I need is a dedicated navigator. I have a very nice unit in one of my cars. It essentially asks you where do want to go? Should I bias toward speed or closest route? That is it. It has a very nice screen that will automatically shift between single and split screen when you come to a highway interchange. Once side shows the main map and the other shows which of the exits you should take. The voice prompting will tell you to take the second left or make a u-turn if you overshoot.

I used MS MapPoint with AGPS add-in for a long time but I just could not stand the hard to understand, unattractive, robot-like voice of Microsoft Mary ;-) The voice prompts are also way too long. However, AGPS does have the option of adding your own .wav files which I took advantage of.

Why don't you try reading a review or two on iGuidance. That is mainly what I use for navigation. There is a review of the new version 2 right here at GpsPasSion: http://www.gpspassion.com/fr/articles.asp?id=100

note by GpsPasSion no systematic quotiing, please, helps with storage ;-)

Thanks, I will take a look at it. Right now I use Mapopolis on my PPC. It is OK, but has some really ugly maps. My original reason for asking about S & T was to have a tablet program. Perhaps iGuidance is the one!
