TomTom Mobile for Windows and Symbian Smartphones

News and links on the portal.
Just caught this on TomTom's site, it's official TomTom Mobile is coming to Smartphones in Europe, with versions for the Windows Mobile (SPV/QTEK/Motorola) and for the S60 (Nokia 6600) platforms! On offer is TomTom's new navigation platform as first seen on PalmOS (article in French), and later on the TomTom GO. All of the features present on these versions are back and the good news is that TomTom has been able to preserve the speedy and responsive user interface, that makes for pleasant operation.

Since the navigation platform is common, it's likely that the "POI import and Alert" update for the GO (see the article on PocketGPS UK) will make it to the mobile version as well. TomTom Mobile will only work in conjunction with the TomTom Wireless Bluetooth GPS. The complete kit that also includes an MMC (256Mb probably) memory card is announced at 299 euros. Hopefully it will make it to the US at some point in time.

I'm currently using TomTom Mobile, so if you have any questions feel free to ask any question you may have.

A few screen caps from the TomTom site

Sorry, tested on an E200 and Nokia 6600 only, the C500 isn't actually supported as far as I know? Is that a beta version of the software, you have a TomTom Wireless GPS, right?
Does the C500 have a "real" BT Manager or is it the same "kludge" as on the E200 (like Qtek 9090/2020 situation), that might explain it.

The c500 has the same BT manager as the e200, what could this BT manager do for me, and which one do you recommend?

I have the official version of TomTom mobile. Im probably the first in the UK to get it from TotalPDA.com. They sent it to me specially.

When i run the app then under GPS configuration it just says NO GPS Device! Yet wm2003se detects the TOMTOM bluetooth GPS. Its really strange. I ws thinking it could be a configuration thing, but where would i start to look?

Good for you on being the first to get it, but there's some trail blazing to be done. Is it the full retail package, with the MMC card?
As you've seen it's a zero configuration thing so if it doesn't work out of the box, I can't see what else you could try. I was thinking that maybe HTC had put a Widcom BT manager on the C500 like they did on the QTEK9090 and that this might fool TomTom that's expecting the "MS BT Manager".
You could try TomTom but since they don't support the C500 with TTM you're probably out of luck at this point :-(

Sure, this is an interesting topic!
You'll get a good overview of the BT stack on the E200 in this article, if it's different let me know and when we can take it from there. If not you can do screenshots using SmartSS

Nice work (did some formatting), so it seems the BT module works in th same way as on the E200. With TTM though, you don't have to "mess around" with the accessory modules, the only thing I'd try is remove TomTom Wireless GPS from the list to see if it helps, but I doubt it. Make sure also you turn off the GPS (long press) and then turn it on again ( before launching the software.

Tried all thoses now, it works fine on my friends e200 but just dont find the receiver within the app. there must be some technical solution. I think im just going to give it back, ive even looked at the registry and theres nothing that stands out that will allow me to configure it.

what a annoyance it would of been so nice to get it working on the c500

Right, it's really odd that it wouldn't work, I've put a question into TomTom's team, I'll post here if I hear back.

And here's the answer - no support for the C500 at this time, due to some "odd" .dll's on the C50, but they're working on it though and given TomTom's track record, it's likely they'll make it happen ;-)

Ive also tried TomTom support they just keep saying that the C500 is not supported and dont give a technical reason for it, to which i could investigate further. I think it has to do with the TOMGPSENG.exe that doesnt seem to fire when the app has started. The E200 has no problem which this.

I'll keep it till the weekend we might be able to find a solution
