Hello guys.

My name is Roi and I'm a PhD student.
As part of my research I'm interested in connecting external GPS antenna to smartphones.
The antenna can be rather simple like this one:
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/464

A.What (current) devices do you aware that have this option?
B.Do you need to configure anything or once you connect it, it just works?

Many thanks in advance
Roi

I'm not aware of any Smartphone having a connector for an external antenna. In fact there have been very few PDAs with such a connector, the HTC Galaxy S100 was one of these if memory serves.

If you need to improve reception you could use a reradiating antenna.

Hi Gpspassion.

My fried works at Marvel and there are phones which can be connected to external GPS/Wifi antenna.
They usually use it only in test modes but the ability is absolutely there.

Well obviously there has to be a connector (could just be soldered though) on the board to connect the antenna, however tiny it is, but unless you wrip apart the case you won't have access to it. What is it you are trying to do exactly? If you want to improve reception and/or test the impact of a better antenna a reradiating antenna will do the job/
