Just bought a Montana 600 after the reviews on here. It was the Montana GB 1:50000 package which comes with Britain's Ordnance Survey maps. It was on special offer with City Navigator Europe NT. This was what swung it for me because I am likely to use it both hiking and in the car.
But get it home and the OS maps are on a micro SD card and so is the City Navigator and of course only one SD card slot.
Is there a way round this? Can I load one or both onto the internal memory? If so how?
Was also planning to get the lifetime updater for the City Navigator, which would have solved it I guess as the on-line update would go into the memory presumably. But the maps even with the card installed don't appear on my-dashboard to allow me to choose lifetime update. Can I do lifetime update with the Montana or is it just for Nuvis with the map pre-installed?
I've deleted all the voices and manuals I don't need (after doing a full back up of course) and I have just over 3.1 MB of internal memory free. The OS maps are just under this so I'm tempted to just copy them into internal memory and see what happens.
One worry, both the internal memory and the os maps drive have a folder called garmin, well actually Garmin on the unit and GARMIN on the maps. If I copy the maps into the top level of the internal memory it will presumably amalgamate the two folders. Will this be OK?
Yeah, that may not have been such a great deal. Maps provided on SD cards will only work on the original cards. And they cannot be updated, so no lifetime maps. The only way to "update" that kind of map is to purchase a new one. If you purchase City Navigator on DVD, you can then purchase lifetime updates for it although that would be a separate purchase.
Enjoy your Montana though, it's a great GPS. After more than a year, I still love mine and use it everyday.
