just bought new garmin LM 40. did not want to use the windshield mount and got a dashboard disc, it is just a flat disc with sticky label on bottom to stick to dash but I cannot figure out how to attach garmen to the disc.
would a portable friction mount be a better option?
And yes a portable friction mount would probably be a better option. Always hated the dashboard disc and have used the bean bag mount for many years, see https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=63953 as an example, although the same mount can probably be purchased from Amazon for a little less money.

I have used this: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=33328 For the last 2 years and I love it, It never moves, not matter how hard I drive, The underside of it is some kind of semi-sticky thing. It does not leave any residue on the dashboard. It is very small and folds down to be almost flat. And the sides of it can be adjusted to match the dashboards curvature. The only problem is that the American and Great Britain airport security always ask what the hell that solid thing is in my bag when I pass the X-ray-machine, They always want to examin it
