I was thinking about to replace my 60 CSx for a Montana 650.
I really like the bigger screen, and also the 200 tracks/10 000 points.

For the track can we put it to not record ?

I would like to have feedback from owner of Montana and even previous owner of 60 CSx.

Thanks

I have a 60csx and a Montana 600. I love the Montana and use it with the auto mount and City Navigator in my car as well as hiking. FWIW, I also have a Nuvi 3790t but I don't use it anymore because I like the Montana better. I had an Oregon 400t for over 3 years but gave it to a friend because I never used it after I got the Montana.

Of course you can turn off track recording. The Montana has a menu to control everything - it is much more advanced than any other device Garmin has made. The profile, shortcut, dashboard and favorite features make it especially powerful - you can customize it to work exactly how you like. Commands that are buried deep in the menus can be accessed with a single screen tap if you set it up properly.

It's a bit larger and heavier than the 60csx and of course the touchscreen interface is different from the pushbuttons on the 60csx. So I guess there are some personal preference issues, but I am completely happy with my Montana.

Thanks for the feedback and your experience. I will probably step up to the Montana 650 and my brother also if he sell his Oregon 300.

continued : on the Montana 600 series can we take a waypoint (present location) when viewing the map by using a sub-menu or you need to go to main page and take the waypoint from there ?

Thanks

This is where the ability to customize the Montana really shines. There are many ways you could do this. You can assign any function you want to execute when you tap the power button. And you can assign another function to a double-tap of the power button. So either of those could be used to create a waypoint if you like. There is also a "favorites" dashboard that you can assign multiple functions to, so you could add waypoint creation there and have it available right on the map screen.

But expect to spend a few days learning how to do all these things, because it can get complicated. I consider myself very advanced but the first few days I had my Montana I was a little overwhelmed.

I finally make the plunge and I bought the Montana 650. So far it's pretty good and very customizable.

For tracks, only these option are available:

Do not record
Record , show on map
Record, do not show on map

Do not record, show map (this option not available)

This could be interesting because lets say I made some current tracks with Record, Show on map and after I made my trackis I stop tracking but I still want to see the tracking I just made. If I select Do not Record then I don't see the current tracks anymore ! This is something that should be available as an option.

This way I don't have to save the current track and I can review and save it later on my PC.

You can send suggestions to montanabeta@garmin.com. The software developers have been very responsive to user feedback and continue to add new features.
