Microsoft, in versions from 2005 to 2010, added a lot of new features to the product, but the past couple of releases, version 2011 and the newest 2013 could be classified as mainly a map data update. Also note, version 2012 was completely skipped.

New in 2013:

- Show/Hide all pushpin names feature has been added. (It toggles just the pushpin names, not the pushpin info balloons.)

- Drive time zones can be calculated up to 9999 minutes, instead of the previous 999 minutes

- Speed (MPH or KPH) is now shown even in the full screen navigation mode

- Heading (N/E/S/W) is now also shown in the navigation pane

- New "Metro UI" buttons

- Ability to suppress the Safety Warning popup each time GPS navigation is enabled. (This one is my personal favorite, and I think all GPS users will appreciate it.)

I posted some screen shots here.

At least two developers discontinued their navigation software for the Windows PC platform over the past couple of years, so it is nice to see Microsoft still releasing new versions, and including even new features, albeit not as many as some users would like.

Marvin,
I see that there is a trial download for this version. Has anyone tried it yet? I ask only because I downloaded the 2011 version trial & it hosed S&T on the computer & you may recall that post. I also am interested in how up to date the database is. I don't use the program for traveling & destinations stops like some do. I just need up to date info, especially in areas where there is new build. I know MS only updates (supposedly) one time a year, but I have doubts on that. Thanks.

Hi Robin,

I know of dozens of people who downloaded and installed the trial version with no issue. So far I've only heard of one user saying the program failed to start for him after a successful install. We don't yet know what the issue there is.

This version uses © 2012 Navteq map data (I don't know which month)

Marvin,

Any plans for a newer version of S&T Keys? I ask because when I use the one I have installed, it opens up S&T 2010. Will it work with 2013 & if so, do I need to remove S&T 2010 for it to work with 2013? Thanks.

Robin, I stopped working on S&T Keys a few years ago. MisterMoonlight took over the project. I don't think he has released S&T Keys 2013 as of today (Aug 27, 2012), but it may be best to check with him directly. He publishes his versions at http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/free-add-ons
