If i understood correctly, you shouldn't setup giffgaff APN details and such.

You should disable APN and then authorize your phone to receive the SMS messages.

APN function works only for GPRS mode, so you can track your vehicle by web, etc, but this way you need a server or hire one.

MoMM, thank you for your reply,

ah ok this makes sense.

another question,
1) how do you change from GPRS mode to SMS mode when i call the unit.
2) how long should battery last. my unit runs out very quickly (it is genuine TK102-2). and it does NOT send me a text when battery is low, it just turns off?

any help is much appreciated

thank you

1) You can send "noadminip*****" to cancel GPRS, so your tracker will only send SMS messages. ****** is your password.
2) It depends a lot in which mode your tracker is operating. SMS consumes less battery than GPRS, for example. It also changes if you are using Autotrack or GeoFence options, because they spend more battery. I didnt make tests, but i read somewhere that the battery must last at least one day and at max 3-4 days if it only sends SMS when you call the tracker.

MoMM, once again thank you!

One final question. is there a way when i know call the tracker, that it sends me a google map link instead of long/lat numbers?

currently i send SMS "smslinkone******" to get google map link, but is there way to get this when i call the tracker?

Thank you

ahmedf, you can try "smslink123456" without "one", so all the messages will be sent with a google link.

If you want to come back to the default form (lat/long) you must send "smstext123456".

Hello, I have a problem with my Coban GPS/GPRS Tracker TK102-2.
I make all of the settings that I need and I still can't get the tracker send location. It sends only imei number. What I want to do is the GPS to send coordinates to our server. I've read that the problem might be in the TCP Protocol Commands of Coban. I wrote to the Coban factory, but they are not helpful at all!
This is what the GPS is sending:
155338:2012-09-13 14:52:41:##,imei:35971xxxxxx849,A;:85.118.193.169:
Please help me! :)

The "A" means "No FIX"

Go outside. Trackers/GPS receivers do not work inside building.
You need to wait for 1 to 3 minutes at clear sky to get your 1st fix.
Then A -> F and you will have all details.

Also the Coban protocol requires that you properly answer to this message
