Which pin on the power cable is used to connect a backup or reversing signal to the SP7200 to enable a backup camera? I am going to guess the one directly under the "DR" on the power plug but would appreciate someone conforming or correcting that guess.
I have found nothing in these forums or on the internet that gives the specific location/functions of these 4 pins but an instruction I found somewhere along the way for connecting up the "DR cable" said the green wire is for the backup signal and internal to the power/control cable assembly there is a green wire and it leads to the pin under the "DR" label.
From what I have read Garmin was unwilling to publish any info on it - instead referring everyone to an "Authorized Garmin Installer". From what I can determine Garmin didnt worry too much about creating a viable network us such places...there are none anywhere near me and I will be darned if I am going to drive 6 hours to have 1 wire connected.
I have been unable to cause the 7200 to go into backup camera mode. I first set the video mode to DVD and auto switch and have confirmed that I have in fact connected it to the correct A/V In pins on the 4 pole 3.5mm jack. I have set the GPS to Back-up camera mode, tried auto and prompt select modes and both high and low reverse detect and I with the camera powered on and connected tied each of the power plugs wired pins (the one under the DR label with a green wire feeding it and the one nearest it with an orange wire to it - the pair on the other side are not connected to anything - one has to be reverse detect and the other speedometer) to ground and 12V after setting the appropriate sense level on the GPS. Nada. I confirmed the continuity of the wires in the power cable up to the GPS. So, either my unit simply will not detect any reversing level, the correct DR cable is more than just a couple wires and polarized connector or some combination of a "speedometer" input and "reversing" level are needed to make it detect and go into backup mode.
Has anyone used a Garmin supplied DR cable and did you have to connect more than just the reversing wire?
In the meantime I will use the DVD mode and just power up the backup camera from a backup light and select auto switch in the DVD mode menu. This seems to get me there albeit with an extra step of having to accept a warning message about not driving and watching TV.
