Too bad the POIs are still over 5 years out of date!

Lifetime updater worked perfectly on my 3790T, its the first time I have not had to use option two.

I updated my two nüvi 1390LMTs yesterday, using option 2. However, I received a message while updating the first one that there wasn't enough room for both the USA and Canada maps. I chose to update only 49 US states. Afterwards, I looked at the nüvi in Windows Explorer, to see what could be deleted to make room for the full update.

I deleted lots and lots of files from the help (left only American English), JPEG (emptied all images), keyboards (emptied all but en GB.kbd and en US.kbd), Text (left only those with enAU, enGB, UKAU, esUS and a few others) and Voice (left only six English American Jack & Jill .vpn and .sum files) folders. Since I don't speak Ukranian, Lithuanian, German, Brazilian Portugese, Latvian, Russian, Greek, etc., I figured that those and many others were no-brainers for deletion. Since most of the file names are cryptic, I hope that I didn't delete any that I might need in North America in the future. Anyone know of a comprehensive listing of which files can be deleted for nüvi use by English speakers only in North America.

After the space-freeing deletions I reinstalled the full City Navigator 2013.10 North America in both units. Everything seems fine so far (without an actual on-street drive).

It is very dissapponting to see that TrafficTrends map data remains at v4.25, more than a year out-of-date now. When I purchased lifetime map updates for my 3790T it was under the assumption that TrafficTrends would be regularly updated (I assumed quarterly, along with the POI and street info). Having shared my route/speed info with Garmin ever since they have collected it, it seems unfair that they don't provide aggregated TrafficTrends updates along with the map data.

Man, these updates are getting huge. They're already over 4.2GB and growing with every release. You need some serious bandwidth and serious download speed to make this update go quickly. Just sayin'...

Agreed. Updating my 3490, the download was ~5.2GB & my 3790 was ~3.2GB. A BIG annoyance was that I could NOT use the 3490 download to update the 3790 despite downloading to both GPS & PC. I had to download a totally different (I assume) 3.2GB package to update the 3790. I have not yet updated my 765 so I don't know if I'll have to do a full download once again. This is just plain silly.

@cheezz From my recent post:

Rather than spend all that time downloading the map again, you can copy the new map from your PC to a USB drive , and then into the receiving PC (or copy via wireless lan). Plug your Nuvi into the receiving PC and unlock the map online. It only has to be unlocked once to be usable in both MapSource and BaseCamp. Locations of the maps in various Windows versions are:

Win 7 and Vista: C:\Program Data\Garmin\Maps
Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Garmin\Maps

@NanaimoRick: Some Canadian info in addition to what you found... In the Toronto/GTA region, there is speed limit data for the DVP, QEW, 404, 407, 409, 410. Elsewhere in Ontario, 402, 405, 416. Still no data for Allen Rd, 406...

Thanks,

Rick,

I'm puzzled.

The JCV file you link to is 757 MB and its file name is D3060040A.JCV. The file that the updater installed on my zumo (which has 4 GB of storage, so it should select the largest available JCV file) is called D3060060A.JCV and weighs in at 794 MB.

I updated to 2013.10 and noticed the 2012.4 was still on the 2460. It gave me the check boxes to show or not on both. I thought it would of deleted it. What happens down the line when installing further updates?
