Here's something that has recently come to my attention that those of us who are fans of the old 26xx series might find interesting.
I've got a Goldwing GL1800 with a built in 2D navi system that's built on a very similar architecture of the 26xx. As these are built in units that we can't go out and get upgrades for, all the Goldwing community griped at Honda and Garmin till they FINALLY released a new firmware that allows these old 2D units to load NT maps. It works - my GL is now running 2012.4 maps.
Now here's my theory - if this new firmware has in it, the code to allow this pre-NT Navi unit run NT maps, why couldn't that same function be applied to other pre-NT units like the 26xx? I know for a fact that Garmin would never do that, but it is theoretically possible and I'm wondering if someone who knows Garmin firmware's could see if they could locate that part of the new Goldwing firmware and apply it to a 26xx firmware. |
