I was Looking for Aviation maps (and software) that I can use with my Nuvi or even load to a Laptop to simulate an Aviation GPS - Does anyone know HOW or where to get such maps/software?
It is NOT for use as a Pilot.. I just want to use it when flying commercially to enjoy the flight more (and see what the Pilots need to see). |

| If you have a window seat and the flight crew allows it (which most do), you can use any Nuvi while flying on a commercial flight. I've used all my Nuvi's from the original 350 to the 3790 successfully. |

Thanks NanaimoRick.. I was looking for more than just using my Nuvi onboard airplanes. I've already done that.. what I'm interested in is the basemap for an aviation unit... one that shows the controlled Airspaces, etc.
Such info in not available on the normal basemap used for Automotive navigation.

What you can do (and was done by myself for my own Garmin):
- use a public KML airspace like Lloyd Bayile's
http://www.lloydbailey.net/airspace.html
- transform KML to GPX with gpsbabel
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/
- transform GPX to img with gps2img, which can be installed in Mapsource as well
http://www.gpx2img.com/
- upload the map file to your Garmin
Heavy note, this would be only for leisure and casual non-piloting travels, for my needs I usually need to complete with quite heavy extract of waypoints from national AIPs etc.
For dedicated use I'm afraid Garmin is sold to Jeppesen, and for some strong markets there are solution providers like Skydemon, AirnavPro, Aware etc. on different non-Garmin platforms with many bonuses, weather, NOTAMS and so on.

THANKS Byteworks... I believe THIS is exactly what I wanted.... and NO, I will not be relying on this for PILOT/Navigation info... only for use as a Airline Passenger - Thanks again :)
