Can you tell me if the battery icon in the upper right corner disappears when the unit is plugged in, or does it show with the lightening bolt through it like my Nuvi 360 does to show it is charging?
Also, is there a screen on the 1490 that shows battery status, like percentage of charge left?

Hi G-Man.
The battery icon goes when your nuvi is being charged, not very helpful but that's just the way it is.
Your battery icon though will show the charge state of your nuvi, dropping from 4 bars down to one as it loses charge. |

While the unit in running on its battery, you can press and hold the battery icon which should take you to the diagnostics section where you can see the % Battery remaining and lots of other info.
