Everything is configured properly as far as I can determine. A couple of times when I was making a sharp turn I thought it showed a proper map momentarily as the new map was being
drawn then the details disappeared. As soon as lifetime updater gets back online I'll reinstall the maps and see if that helps.

Are trying to update through myGarmin on the Garmin website or through the lifetime map updater software?

3D Terrain (along with Places along the road, 3d Buildings, Traffic and Trip log) can be toggled on/off in the "Map Layers" menu.

If you go under manage maps you should see the word download next to the the unit picture.

Under map management in mygarmin it has a download button for the 3790T but for the 3490LMT there is no download button.

Huh, maybe because it's new and you haven't downloaded a map update yet? I'm not sure.

Now we can set speed limit.

Show icons along the route :: press on icon while navigate then 34xx will ask you what to do next ? set as new destination or to add via point ?

@SiamMarine,

There is not much icons on the map. Can you specify which one you see?
Also, you have to set the speed limit for all the roads you drive on? I guess it is for roads that do not have the speed limit in the map (like in Canada). In the US, the speed limit should appear by itself as it does on my 3750.

POI's on the main screen do appear, and some of them are actually the brand logo of the particular POI however, there are very few POI's showing...and I'm not sure why. One POI will show in one spot, but there could be 20 more in that same spot, via a POI lookup on the device. There must be some reason Garmin has done it this way...maybe screen clutter, or maybe you have to pay to get on the Garmin main screen (brand logo), I don't know. This feature can be toggled on/off using the "map layer" feature

DEM maps seem to have detail as good as the 3790; I'm not seeing the same thing as bobaber sees...mine has more definition and clarity.

Screen draws are painfully slow.

POI lookup's are the fastest I have ever seen...about as fast as Google maps now...before I finish typing a POI without even using the "near" function, the POI name choices appear on the top of the screen. It's insane how fast they are. I don't think it's a faster processor, just a more efficient algorithm...but I can't say for sure.

Address lookups are really cool - they look in adjoining states/provinces at the same time if you use the regular address lookup. If you use the universal search - you'll only see what's in your state or province. They are lightning quick as well!

Routing is noticeably faster as well

You can customize your main screen dashboard - there are maybe 6-8 different dashboard styles and I'd bet more coming in the Garmin garage.

There is some new main screen customization that was sorely needed, which now appears on this device.

There is sometimes a zoom in/ out feature on the main screen and other times not...LOL

Traffic detail is much better - but it seemed to make no difference when I plugged in my GTM35 instead of the GTM 60 supplied with the unit. Traffic detail comes up instantly on power up...no real delays there. Faster than previous units!

GPS acquisition times on vehicle power are literally instant from out of the box...as if the device had AGPS. I'm not sure, but perhaps the traffic receiver aids in initial location. I literally plugged it in from out of the box, accepted the initial nag screens and it had full sats right away! No delay at all. I have never seen this before. There was no setup other than language.

I haven't had time to fully explore the device, but it needs a firmware update to fix the screen draws and some other small irritations.

New UI is very nice and again, simplistic.

All in all, it's a dramatic improvement over the 3790 LMT.

@turboccc
Not much icons on the map. It's better if 34xx will show all of Pois Icons on map (and let's set what will display.)
It's better if 34xx will say which street we are driving on while navigate so we can know we are driving on the same street as 34xx route or not. (in case of there are nearby road ie express way above or frontage road beside.)

Continue :: Trip Log

34xx will record the Trip Log date by date

Got a email answer from Garmin support, they said to go to MyGarmin to reinstall maps in the manage maps section. The 3490LMT is not listed under download history because there has never been a download, only my 3790T is listed,so I can not reinstall maps to the 3490LMT. They admitted there has been some map problem in downloads. I asked them if they could set up a download for the new 3490LMT. I'll post the reply when I get it.
