Just with these newly announced units. Garmin Lock was available on the latest Nuvi's prior to this.

I saw that on the specs page and groaned.

At least it will cut down on the posts here that say stuff like, "My brother changed the PIN on my GPS and now he won't tell me what it is; how can I unlock it?" [g]

I've looked at all the new models and NONE of them offer mp3 player or line-out...I'll stick with my 765T...I can play it through the car stereo and always have all my music in the car. Can't believe they don't offer a unit with these capabilities anymore!

Why put an audiobook player in them and not a MP3 player? Garmin must be getting a kick back from Audible. Any kind of media player without a line-out jack is not that useful anyway.

Looks like they dropped ecoRoute too and give you the option of purchasing it separately for $99.

So no garmin lock and no ecoRoute on the new top of the line 3490.

Did anybopdy really use ecoRoute anyway ?

My guess -- and that's all it is -- is that Garmin realized that a large percentage of digital tunes is encoded in formats other than MP3, formats they would have to pay a licensing fee to include. Between that and the dominance of Apple devices in that corner of the market, it makes some business sense to bail out.

In my opinion Garmin is running circles. There is limited set of features, that Garmin adds or removes to make a new model. Now Garmin has brought back POI to essential series but removed cityXplorer support. Next year maybe will add route planning on PC or FM transmitter and remove language guide and picture viewer. And so on. Till we all move to navigation on smartphones.

I have an ecoRoute HD module, and use it to get real time MPG from my Ford Fusion.

I wonder for those of us with the ecoRoute HD (if it still works on the new line) if we would have to purchase ecoRoute for it to work?

I think in some years BaseCamp will gain functions already available in Mapsource, like address search, routing preferences, restriction areas etc. And then will be a good companion to car navigation ;)

I sure hope that they'll at least start to use GHz processors with some of these units to make them fast and responsive.

2460lmt or new model.
I just purchased a 2460lmt and still have time to return it after my 780 broke. I wondered whether there is much difference between the 2460lmt and 2595lmt. I drive a lot and do like the ability to hear audible books in one device. I now listen to books via my iTouch connected to my car speakers with a speaker jack and cassette. I notice the new models have the ability to play audible books, but how could one connect the device to the car speakers? Any thoughts are appreciated

As far as I can tell from reading the specs for the 2595, your only going to be able to hear the audible books through the Nuvi's speakers or possibly the speaker in the mount, if it has one. There doesn't seem to be an Line Out built into the device.
