| I suspect just another one of Amazon's shipping times that has very little to do with reality. |

| I'm very surprised that Garmin will not release a new connected unit in NA. I've had a Nuvi 1690 for over a year now and I use the Nulink features every day. They are so useful, especially when you are traveling. I would never buy a non connected unit, I guess I will be looking at Tom Tom Live for my next purchase. |

Digital 3D Traffic provides traffic updates every 30 seconds, which is 4 to 10 times faster than other traffic systems on the market. Guidance 3.0 is featured on nüvi 3400 series personal navigators.
I'm wondering if Garmin has bought/licensed the former MSN Direct sideband broadcast technology (and partnerships) to re-purpose it as a higher bandwidth traffic delivery system. If they eliminated the extras (e.g. Weather, Movies, etc.) from the the old MSN Direct data stream they would be able to have more road coverage. GTM data packets are received around every two minutes, whereas GDB are received every 30 seconds, which lines up with what they are promoting as Digital 3D Traffic.
OK, I just read this: 3D Traffic is also improved in Guidance 3.0 using information from the HD Radio™ Broadcasting System to provide faster updates and more detailed coverage of side streets and other secondary roads in major cities. With Digital 3D traffic (available in the U.S. only) users will receive traffic updates every 30 seconds, up to 10 times faster than traditional traffic receivers, giving drivers the most real-time depiction of the traffic situation along the route.
So it's HD Radio that increases the bandwidth. So no Digital 3D Traffic for Canadians or those who travel here. |

Wondering if any of the new features will be available for 3790T... Knowing Garmin, they probably wont.. Too bad I just bought 3790T last week and if I return it then I will be out of GPS for a few months.. |

I don't disagree that nuLink is a good feature but I'm told that it never was well received in North America. It is unlikely that we will see anymore nuLink models on this side of the pond. |

Probably won't see any of the new stuff on the 3790 as it's not Garmin's way of doing business.
Buying the 3790 a week before the new model was announced is pretty much how things work these days. Same thing with phones, computers and just about any other electronic device you can think of. At least you didn't buy an expensive HP laptop last week and then find out they are possibly going out of the business. :) |

| danham, I can speak to the frustration because I am frustrated. As you can tell by my sig, I've been through a lot of Garmin devices for many years. My frustration is that I see the power of a smartphone navigation solution. It is the integration with contacts, calendar and other apps that appeals to me most. When I can type an address into my Outlook calendar Where field and in a single press on my smartphone, navigate to my appointment, that is powerful. When I can carry home and business addresses of over 2000 contacts and route to them in a few clicks and have it sync in real time to Outlook, that is powerful. When I can use OpenTable or Yelp and find a restaurant and navigate to it by simply clicking on the address, that is powerful. Yet, power users, right now anyway, yearn for something a little more powerful than Google Navigation too. In some ways, GNav is better, in some ways its worse. For me, the power of an integrated solution pulls me to GNav and away from Garmin or Tomtom. And when Google released MapMaker and I am seeing my personal map changes on my device in a couple weeks, I can't move back to Garmin or TomTom. Yet, I yearn for TomTom's IQRoutes. I yearn for Garmin's junction view, and lane assist. My hope is that we'd see Garmin acknowledging a smartphone transition and start to develop an innovative compromise between the two platforms. Instead, what we saw from Garmin today is that their way to compete with smartphones is to compete against them. I wanted to see them do something like the Toyota Entune solution, which leverages the smartphone for connectivity features all the while using the in-dash unit as the UI. I wanted to see a Nuvi that interacts with a smartphone app for a best of both worlds solution. |

I think that this is the same for TomTom. People don't want to pay for another connection subscription when they have a perfectly good smartphone that they are paying for. But I think that Garmin is incorrectly interpreting the lack of nuLink success as a lack of interest in connected services. I think that the interest in connected solutions is clearly there, it is just that customers don't want to PAY for it. That is why, Garmin should have released smartphone apps today that bluetooth communicates to a Nuvi and provides a connectivity link to it for all the online goodness that could/should be available.

| Don't think that is a smart policy. Every year a new units with a new software. (new problems) What about the old ones? Old bugs? What about new features for them? Not possible? What about 3D POIs, Mapsource, MP3, Video Player? Not possible? Come on! Look at Apple. 4 Iphones for four years. (The 5th is expected) Four not 50. And everyone more successful than previous. Hope Garmin knows what they are doing... |

I have the nuvi 3750 which used to be the top of the line series. When I did a poi search, such as typing it in. The hour glass turns and turns and turns then maybe finds the poi.
The new prestige series, I wonder if it is any better? |

One can read the manual to check.
EDIT: the 3490 page still points to the 3700 manuals, sorry...
One OT question: when did they started dropping the Garmin LockTM? |
