TomTom have just made new maps available, the v870 maps are based on the TeleAtlas 2011.03 release and are available for Europe, North America and other countries like Thailand and the Middle East. These new maps can be downloaded under the 30 day warranty program, under the "TomTom Map Update Program", as a one-time purchase or for people with the "Lifetime Maps" systems.
The good news compared with the v865 release in February is that the latest version of MyTomTom required to communicate with the "Nav 3" models (GO 24xx, 25xx, Via) now allows for map updates.

| First comment is that, from what I have read on the "official" TomTom discussions, the new MyTomTom interface (not TomTom Home) used with newer GO 1000 and 2000 series products, as well as VIA models, now seems to be working quite well for map updates. Most updates have gone smoothly and people having problems seem to be the exception. I haven't bothered to update mine yet, since it's not really that big of an issue for me (most of the routes I travel are already correct), so I can't speak from personal experience for now. |

Update works fine on my XXL 540TM. Still need to update my XL 340TM.
EDIT: Updated my XL 340TM today, and it tested just fine on a 60 mile drive. |

| Yes, WackyT: those older models are quite rock solid at this point, in my estimation. Even the older resistive technology screens are about as good as I could ever imagine them to be in terms of usability and responsiveness, especially compared to when my first XL was new. It was a bit glitchy and unpredictable for the first six or seven months, but not so any more! |
