hey,

My dad had a mio moov 330 but it was broken. every time you'd turn on the device it would hang at the startup screen. so he gave it to me so i could try to fix it.

there was no way to get a response from it. reset didn't help, would not respond to a SD card or usb cable (pc wouldn't recognize it)
so basicly it was a brick.

then i tried the "Pin 9" option. which worked:i got to the blue screen.
i tried to flash the firmware with:
WINCE Upgrade
WINCE by SD/MMC (Format)

but it didn't work.

so i tried:
Other Tools
Format

and then:
WINCE Upgrade
WINCE by SD/MMC

it worked...

but the format completely erased the mio (duh :p)

so now every time I start the device it goes to the orange screen and then to the animated screen which tells you to connect it to the pc.

the device is recognized by the pc. if i reset the mio it restores one file: device.xml
which contains:

<device>
<kernel>
<version>
V1.00.0019
</version>
</kernel>

now...the problems are:
1) My dad NEVER connected it to the pc, so there is no backup available...
2) He lost the dvd and the box which came with it... (probably threw it away...)

i orderd a new dvd from mio, but appareantly its a map update dvd or something... so (as far is i know) useless.
The dvd lets me install miomore desktop 2008 which recognized my mio. but it wont let me install anything on my moov.

Miomore desktop gives me only 4 buttons on the left side:
Mio Online
My Maps
Image Search
Photo Album

the only thing which could be useful is "My Maps", but there all the maps are blue, unless i don't connect my mio to the pc ... But, i just registered the device on the mio site, which my dad obviously never did, so i got the "Total Refresh" thingy. But even with that the maps stay blue, but ofcourse to make things complicated... not always. sometimes they go pink so i can use the key given to me by the total refresh thing, but ofcourse it fails every time... it gives me a E40007 error.

i also tried:
tools
Recover keys

gives me the E40007 error...

and the
Tools
Reinstall software on your Mio

is grey, so i can't select that.

The last thing i tried was MioPocket 4.0.
I put it on the SD, inserted it in the mio, and miopocket works. don't know if thats helpful.

So my basic question is: Can anyone help me turn my mio moov 330 back into a GPS...

thanks if you read the whole thing and thanks in advance :)

cheers!

If you still can run MioPocket from SDMMC, from within MioPocket (Tools->Registry Editor) install file Startup.reg to be found in MioPocket's folder \MioAutoRun\Backup which should reset your unit to MioPocket's pre-installation state, means all entries among key HKLM\init will be reset to their original state. Afterwards do soft-reset your device. Don't blame me if this action doesn't help!!!
