Be really, really careful with the big screen on your Montana. Mine broke (just the thin clear plastic cover broke) while I was peeling off a Zagg screen protector.
I just got off the phone with Garmin support, and they want $160 plus my cost of shipping it to them to repair it. THIS IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. They are going to replace one thin plastic sheet over the display (the display itself is not broken, and they are going to get me to the tune of $160.
No more Garmin touch screens for me. The Oregon 450's screen was awful, and the Montana series is fragile and so full of bugs as to make it very frustrating to use.
Be careful with that fragile screen.

| Garmin decided it was a defect in the Montana and refunded the $173.60 they had charged me for the repair. The thing was too buggy for me though, I sent it back where I bought it for a refund. No more Garmins for me. |

I had a Garmin Oregon for a year. It was rugged and worked well. I have had a Garmin Montana for over a month and although it is much bigger and harder to carry around than I thought it would be, it is just as rugged. I have sat on it many times while it was in my back pocket. I have had no problems installing or removing screen protectors from either GPS.
The Montana is a dramatic improvement over the Oregon in most every area including map refresh speed, processing speed, screen glare & contrast outdoors, and menu system. The camera is still terrible and worse than some 1 MP cameras I have used. The size of the screen and it's "Nuvi" profile make it usable for car navigation where the Oregon wasn't practical.
It is still "buggy". It took Garmin several months to release updates for the Oregon that corrected most of its problems. It may be longer for the Montana, but several revisions have already been released.
The weight and size of the Montana is by far it's biggest negative because you won't want to take it with you if you are carrying anything else. It almost feels like 3 iPhones stacked up and is even heavier. I'm sure Garmin's next model will be thinner and lighter. |

| I am still really happy with mine. There are bugs, but they don't create much of a problem for my kinds of use. I am actually learning to like the large size, but I rarely spend more than 3 hours at a time hiking around. |
