It seems most new GPS devices do not include a antenna connection port (MMCX or MCX).

Why is this? I do not think that GPS internal antenna technology has advanced to the state to make external antennas useless. When I connect a cheap $2 ebay antenna to my AtlasIV unit, my GPS signal increases significantly.

Regardless, is anyone aware of new GPS devices that offer a GPS antenna port? Preferably with SirfPrima chipset.

I have a Garmin GPS that has a port for that. I'm not sure if the new models come with that port.

Clearly an external antenna can still be useful in difficult conditions or with a coated windshield, but less so than with the pre-SiRFstarIII generation and it probably allows manufacturers to save a $1. Anyway I'm not aware of any current branded GPS road systems that offer an external antenna connector.

that what I figured, manufacturers save $1 on the BOM because right now the gps chips are "good enough" without the external antenna option.

How about generic chinese GPS devices? Anyone seen a recent model with antenna port?
