Hi all,

i am trying to send message id 28 to the gps bluetooth receiver(SirfStar III). I am able to receive message and i could decode the output message to hex format as per the Sirf binary protocol manual.
Could someone please tell me what format(for java) should i be sending the Message ID 28 to the receiver as its not accepting my message?

MID 28 is Output Message, it is received _from_ receiver and cannot be injected into receiver. And yes, you named the topic correct: to control your GPS-chip you should use "Input Messages" as per SiRF Binary Manual, thus MIDs 128 and higher.

Hi thanks alot for the reply,

extremely sorry, there is a typo in my message, i am trying to send input Message ID 166 to the GPS chip to get output message ID 28.

This is the Message Id 166: a0a20008a6001c010000000000adb0b3, that i need to send to the GPS receiver. Is there any specific protocol to send the message, because the gps receiver doesnot seem to respond to this message.

The checksum in you message is same as the example from Sirf Binary Manual, but the message body is different. You have to implement checksum calculation.

thanks alot for the reply,
i did calculate the checksum so i get a0a20008a6001c010000000000c3b0b3, but i understand that GPS chip accepts only ASCII values,is there a specific ASCII protocol the GPS chip follows, because when i convert hex to ASCII, the chip doesn't recognize the ASCII value, using a sniffer i had to extract the ASCII value transmitted between Sirf Demo and receiver.
