Thanks for the reply, I had the same problem. Why in the world would they hide it under details? Oh, wait, this Garmin.

How can a company who is probably the best out there in updates for older products - maps and software, always be having problems with downloads? (This is at least the second time for loss of JV for some models, and not the first time you show an update but then can't find it! And that's just a couple examples.)

Because, apparently, they don't seem to take the time to properly and thoroughly check their garbage before they foist it on the public?

When I installed 2012.10 yesterday I got a message saying the file was too big for my Nuvi would I like to delete pictures to make room. I said yes. I am not sure if I had any pictures on there I might of as I don't use that option. Anyway I hope it wasn't any Junction Views.
I now have 285MB's free.
Is there a way to load the map's onto my mini card which can hold 4 gb's? And how does that work out?

Presently owned Dezl 760LMT Montana 600 2460lmt 1490T SP2610 SP2720 GPSMAP 276C GPSMAP 60CS NorthStar 951XD in the boat since 1996.

Use MapInstall and choose the memory card in your device as the destination. I did the same thing with the photos. It just deleted the stock photos that came with the unit (I didn't have anything else in that folder.) Save 'em off to your computer if you want to put them back later. In my case, there wasn't enough space savings to make a difference.

I installed the lower 49 to the 1690. Did the MapInstall thing and installed the entire NA 2012.10 mapset to the microSD card in the 1690. The GPS seamlessly integrates the two mapsets, best I can tell. If I had space issues on the SD card, I probably could have just installed the components I left off the 1690 itself. But it was easier to just select the whole area than selectively pick and choose. ;)

Getting the usual 1 instead of 4 JV's on my daily commute with latest map and software on my 3790LMT. However yesterday it surprised me by giving me 2! The only thing I did different was tap the screen for the overhead 2D view. Returned to the normal 3D view and then got the next JV shortly after. I don't know, could be coincidence but thought it was worth mentioning.

@Kingcan...this is typical for the 3790 running firmware v4.10. I think it's been shown that the maps are not at fault but the firmware since this all happened after v4.10 was released. Garmin stated that map v2012.10 would fix it but it doesn't (as we expected).

How does one roll back the firmware version? I have asked Garmin a couple times and they have not answered the question, they just tell me to re-load the map.

Hurray!

Was able to successfully download North America Map 2012.10 tonight, in less than an hour, no less. I also didn't run out of room.

I have a refurbished 855 which I bought a few weeks ago. I downloaded Map version 2011.40 at the time. Due to the change in policy by Garmin, I also qualified for this map download since it was within 90 days of original activation.

I did a simulated route afterwards, and everything seems to be functioning well.

Since the installed .jcv file contains Junction Views for the installed map segment only, you will be missing Junctions Views for Canada, and Alaska if it has any; Mexico doesn't have any. If desired, you can include all JVs by replacing your .jcv file with the .jcv file from a Full Coverage of North America install.

2012.10 Full North America D3060020A.JCV 367,559.8 KB (see note)
2012.10 US & Canada D1279100A.JCV 367,559.8 KB (see note)
2012.10 Lower 49 States D2335050A.JCV 304,877.9 KB
note. Despite being the same size, a file compare finds they are not identical.

So, how do you get the .jcv from a Full NA install when it is too large to install on your device? There are two methods:
1) Map update downloads do include the .jcv file (in the temp folder after downloading) even if you only save the maps to your PC so if you have a lifetime map update subscription you can get the file that way.
Resource: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?p=90958
Resource: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/32318 (location of temp folder)
2) At my.garmin.com, install Full NA to an SD card that is masquerading as your nuvi.
Resource: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=19245

I can confirm that method 2 works. I tried method 1. The .jcv must be inside of some package, I looked in the .cab files, but didn't find it, but that doesn't mean it isn't there somewhere. I even re-downloaded to assure CCleaner hadn't deleted anything.

Hope this helps,
Lilla

In other words when I open Nuvi E drive it shows this

Maps and JCV are in hidden directory \.System, you have to make hidden directories visible in your system.

IMHO the best way to deal with JCV is to delete them. These are nice pictures to toy at home, but in actual navigation there is no time to look at them. Since they repeat LA information, they are mostly redundant. LA is more accurate, I have seen places, where JCV was wrong but LA correct.
LA is included in map, it will be still available after removing JCV.

I don't know if it's the novelty, but the few times I've seen the JV popup, I've found it useful. I suppose it could get old if you know the area and drive it often, but for those times when you're in a new area, I find the JV to be very helpful. LA is also extremely useful. But if I had to choose between LA and JV, I'd take LA.

Pope got it. In Win7 not only do you have to show hidden files option you have to go further and uncheck the hide the operating system files box.

My experience on a recent 3000-mile trip with a 1695 is the opposite: JV was occasionally wrong but JV never was. To be fair, I only spotted a half dozen wrong LAs total.

But I also somewhat agree with you that JCV is less useful than it seems. In a busy interchange the picture pops up briefly and often was gone just when I wanted it. LA was always there.
