I'm looking for a GPS logging device that will automatically turn on and start recording my position every 2-5 minutes when it gets hooked up to power.
My previous device was hooked up to a car power outlet and would automatically start logging starts whent he car starts and pwoer is applied to the USB port and then charges it while driving. It then continued to record until it ran out of juice
I had one that operated exactly like that, it was a "Bug GPS CAR TRACKER" that had a terrible program to export but I could get it to google earth and do billing off my travel times at the end of the month. I ran over my original one and I cannot find the exact one to replace it. It worked very well and I miss it
I did buy an extra battery for it at one time, it was listed as
a Battery Pack for Solarius V3/V5 BT GPS, Holux GPSlim236, Haicom 406-C, i-Blue 737 / 747 / 757 Pro, BT-Q1000P, GiSTEQ Photo Trackr, starz BT-Q818X
I've already wasted money on an M-Tracker (which I'll happily trade for something that works how I'd like)
It boils down to me being lazy and needing something that records automatically when the car is started.

| Welcome to the forums. Not aware of a "standard" portable GPS datalogger that would do that. On the other hand a Garmin nuvi will start recording as soon as it gets powered but you may already have a GPS for guidance? |

You may consider LOCOSYS GT-31.
Its "EXT.POWER MODE" can meet your requirements exactly.

If "EXT POWER MODE" is enabled, the GT-31 turns itself on when the USB cable is plugged in(like car engine starts) and starts tracking/logging data.
It can be configured to log data into internal flash memory or the SD card with preferred time interval and/or threshold speed.
It will turn itself off automatically when the USB cable is unplugged(car engine stops).

| Thanks, I remembered I had a GT-31 in a drawer and I did find that mode that I'd missed previously. Unfortunately my current car's DC socket is always powered so I can't make good use of this rare feature. |
