I was running an older version of Mapsource Topo Canada and I recently got a newer version of Mapsource topo Canada V5.4, and I am unable to open my saved files (.gdb) V5.4 tells me that it will only open .mps files.
Is there anyway to covert the .gdb files to .mps

Welcome to the forums.

You might want to update to the latest version of Mapsource (currently 6.16.3 http://www8.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp) because I'm able to open gdb files fine. If that fails you could try BaseCamp, see http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=137658

Thanks it worked fine, I was at Garmin site many times I am not sure why I never tried that.

ok, I was just wondering if you'd used MapSource or Basecamp, sounds like MapSource did the job, which is just as well since I find it easier to use.

There are so many converters available over net in which you can convert so many formats to other. so you will get many converters that will convert .gbs to .mps by the way latest latest Mapsource version can open that.
