Is there an application where I can see the number of satellites & strenght for Ipod 4? I have tomtom and there is no way to see the satellites in use like previous versions

No, apparently the Apple APIs do not make that type of info available. The most detailed info we can get is via the free GPS Info application that shows what the source of location is, GSM/WiFi or GPS.

I f you are using the TomTom car kit there is an additional application found in iTunes
the
Car Kit Tool v1.0
when your iPhone is docked to the car kit, a separate program when turned on will show
Latitude
Longitude
Status
GPS fix status
Satellite status

Yes but it only gives information for the GPS reception from the external SiRFstarIII receiver.
