They were bought out by Westwood One some time ago. The traffic areas have increased to all major metro areas and the data comes from AirSage.

This gives AirSage a second paying customer, the other being Google.

So Sigalert processes the AirSage and displays it their way? Must admit it's interesting to see the speeds at various points, but I'm not sure that adds a lot of value? They must be doing something else.

Google have a lot more density too, like Inrix, so either SigAlerts have a more details "for pay" version (like Inrix on the iPhone) or Google has other sources, or they're not using all the data Airsage offers.

That space is getting crowded and confused (you should write a summary post about it !) and with Google give the most detailed info for free on Google Maps, Google Maps Mobile and Google Maps Navigation on Android, it's hard to see a compelling business model for the others.

The maps are free but they want to sell traffic alerts for people on certain routes similar to BeatTheTraffic (who uses Inrix).

AirSage stopped showing their traffic on their own website but they have coverage on many, many more streets than SigAlert shows.

I agree this market is getting hard to follow. Frankly I wish there was some consolidation going on. It doesn't do users any good for 10 companies to have ten different sets of data none of which is completely accurate.

Yep, suggestion for a summary/comparison post/article still stands ;-)

I use sigalert.com all the time on my PC. It seems to be the biggest, easiest traffic map to read on a large computer monitor, and it remembers the exact position and zoom level I have set.
