I have a 3790t, I bought it in Canada, is my trafic receiver going to work if I bring it in the USA or Europe?

It wouldn't surprise me if the receiver itself would work but your subscription to NavTeq traffic won't do you any good in Europe. It should still work in the USA though.

Some European countries offer a free service. Where are you planning on travelling to?

It's really the exception, the only decent one is in Germany, France for instance is only on some toll motorways and limited to a few messages.

In most Western European countries, free TMC is available. But not in the UK and Finland, and in France only on highways. TMC Premium is available in 9 countries (of the 48) and it's number is still growing, but it is growing slow.

In Europe, Denmark, Sweden and Norway have very, very good free TMC. Much more better than in Germany, though in Germany free TMC is also good.

But if you are visiting some of the countries listed here (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=268) then TMC Premium is very good choice because it gives you much more information compared to free TMC (except for Nordics [= Norway, Sweden, Finland] and Germany: there free TMC is almost similar).

For one exception: please note that in Holland (Netherlands) there is also TMC Premium, but unlike the information at Garmin reception is very poor. I bought it, and many other Garmin users in Holland did as well, but till now we're very disappointed with it. It seems that Garmin and TMC-provider BEMOBILE are working on a better TMC-signal and in october it should be fixed. We'll wait and see.

Purchased only I believe. Pick your service provider as they cover the same areas but there aren't as many Navteq carriers as Total Traffic Network (Clear Channel) stations.

Thanks for the update. Recent software updates (1490 I think) have mentioned the GTM-26 and GTM-36 receiver, I don't believe any has been sighted yet though.

I have a 3790T bought in Canada with North America maps. I recently bought CN Europe maps. I am travelling to Italy in January, 2011. Will the 3790T display "free" traffic info in Italy with my current hardware and maps? And if so, is the "free" service in Italy any good?

Unfortunately, quality of free TMC in Italy is very poor (as fas as I know from Dutch users). However, Italian Premium TMC should be working fine.

Discoboy, check in the Traffic section of the preferences which subscriptions are present.

A few weeks ago I was toying with a 3760T in a mall, here in Italy, and it had lifetime subscription for every possible European nation I could think of...
