What is MioPocket?
MioPocket (MEE-oh-pok-it) is an "unlock" for GPS devices (aka PNAs) running Windows CE. Such devices almost always boot into the manufacturer's software with no way to exit it, meaning that you cannot run any other software; i.e. the device is "locked." Unlocking your device allows you to use it for far more than the manufacturer intended (ex. for music, movies, appointments, other navigation apps, etc.) and more like a PDA. MioPocket is the most-packed and most-fully-featured unlock for PNAs available and is free and legal to use, as it consists 100% of freely-distributable content. What MioPocket is not is a replacement for MioMap, Mobile Navigator or any other OEM navigation software. It is just a frontend from which you may launch the navigation software that came with your device or that you purchase separately.

What types of programs does MioPocket come with?
MioPocket comes with just about everything that you might want: three media players (video and audio, nearly all popular formats, including MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, MP4, H.264/AVC, WMV, MOV, DivX, XviD and more), four e-book readers, multiple dictionaries (including English to 5 languages), dozens of games, two image viewers, two paint programs, MS Office document viewers, text editors, handwritten note-taking apps, four general GPS plotting/mapping apps (good for geocaching), three different appointments/tasks apps, internet apps, registry editors, task managers/switchers, file managers, a contacts app, a calculator, a unit converter, an alarm clock and more (all free/shareware). See the Readme file for a full list. Note: MioPocket does not come with MioMap, iGo, Garmin, TomTom or any other commercial navigation software. Icons are included for them, but not the programs, themselves (since they are not free).

What devices does MioPocket run on?
Technically, MioPocket should run on any Windows CE-based device. Despite the name (a nod to the Mio brand), it's evolved to become flexible and not hard-coded to any particular brand or configuration. Every device is slightly different, though, and due to the great many brands and configurations that are out there, the ease of installation and the number of apps and features that actually work will vary. Most major Windows CE-based GPS brands, such as Mio, Magellan, Navigon, Navman, Sanyo and Asus (as well as many other lesser brands, like Becker, Rightway, Insignia, Binatone, Medion, Nextar, Route 66 and Wayteq) have installation instructions in MioPocket's Readme file. For brands that MioPocket does not include specific instructions for, there are also some general instructions for SD-free installation on just about any device, but it's always a good idea to check around online (especially in the gpspassion.com forums) to see if and how others have done it. Note that TomTom and Garmin devices are Linux-based and, hence, MioPocket (which is Windows CE-based) cannot run on them.

Does MioPocket install to SD or to flash disk (SD-free)?
Both. You have the option of either. See the Readme file for instructions, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Which features make MioPocket unique compared to other unlocks?
* Resolution independence. Will work with any resolution, from 320x240 to 800x480 and larger.
* Touch scrolling. Scroll through icons and pages of icons by swiping your finger, like with high-end smartphones (ex. the iPhone).
* Add/edit icons in seconds by tapping and holding on the screen.
* Fully customizable shell. Use your own image as wallpaper and change many other elements.
* Install to SD card or to internal flash drive (SD-free).
* Close or minimize any open application, even those without any way to do either.
* Bring up the keyboard (and do many other tasks) without closing or minimizing an application.
* Input text via many different keyboards or handwriting recognition.
* Rotate the screen on-the-fly for apps that work better in portrait mode.
* Remote control your device from your Windows desktop.
* Access your device while connected to USB (no connection screen in the way).
* Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5 pre-installed.
* Assign any app (ex. MioMap, any other navigation app or the device's original menu) to a quick launch button found on every page.
* Access the start menu without displaying the taskbar.
* Skin the taskbar to look like XP (Silver or Royale) or Windows 7.
* Automatic registry importing. Just add your own .reg file to the Registry folder and it will be imported during installation.
* All of MioPocket's settings can be configured directly from a menu within MioPocket.
* More included applications and games than any other unlock.
* Many more things...

For more information and answers to other questions, please read the whole Readme file.

Visual Guide to Key Features:

Video Guide

The Look:
Note #1: Ignore the screenshot resolution. These scale to any resolution (320x240, 480x272, 800x480, anything).
Note #2: These are just some of the presets available in MioPocket using the included backgrounds and elements. You may use any combination that you wish, including supplying your own backgrounds and tweaking other settings.

"Pro Glass" and "Aluminum Glass":

"Navy Glass" and "Pro Wood":

"Gold Wood" and "Industrial":

"Aluminum" and "Neon Grid:

"Earth" and "Earth Map":

"Aurora" and "Ultimate":

"Aluminum Black" and "Wood Black":

"iPhone":

Again, these are just presets (or examples) of some of what you can do. If you don't like any of the above graphics, you can supply your own to create a skin that looks just about however you want it.

Other Screens:

The skin changer and lock screen (scaled down in size):

Older Skins (available in the Old Skins Add-on):
Note #1: These skins use the older, less-capable shell, do not have icons for all of the apps/games and don't come in all resolutions.
Note #2: These screenshots have been scaled down.

Enjoy! Feedback is most welcome. If you have any problems or questions not answered in the Readme, feel free to ask here. If you need to upload a screenshot, use this link and the URL for the image will be http://www.gpspassion.com/upload2/<filename>

If you'd like some video to test the media player with, see the "Optional" section near the top of this post for a few videos that I encoded at 480 pixels wide (on smaller displays, Media Player will scale) and in MP4 and DivX formats. FYI, I used Prism (an excellent, free converter for Windows) to convert them. Another good, free converter is Handbrake, which works on Windows, MacOS and Linux.

If you'd like to create your own icons or add more already-made ones, see the "Optional" section near the top of this post for my icon templates and the full iReflect 600+ icon set (tweaked to match the rest of MioPocket's icon style).

Everyone,
Welcome to the new thread. MioPocket 4.0 is a major release. You're going to have a lot of fun with this one. The biggest change is the awesome new shell, which we have user TroNik largely to thank for. There's much more than just that, though. Start your download, then sit back and read the very long list of changes below.

=============================================
** MioPocket 4.0 (Release 60) - 07/30/2010 ** (Osprey)
=============================================

1. Added and made default a new shell, called iPhoneToday. Its key features are scaling to any resolution, touch scrolling, customizing of all elements (wallpaper, icon spacing, etc.) and built-in icon management (use tap and hold). Also created a new visual skin changer to make swapping wallpapers and other elements of the new shell even easier. Also re-organized the skin folder, mainly by creating a "SystemInformation" sub-folder and moving all folders related solely to MP 3.0 and earlier skins (which used the "SystemInformation" program) to it. (credit to TroNik/tronikos and, originally, MiToNiOeS for iPhoneToday)

2. Created a new, shorter MiniBar that consists of a keyboard button and a menu button. The menu button opens a new feature, called the MiniMenu, which has all of the icons that were on the older MiniBar, as well as a dozen more useful commands. The added commands make working with application windows even easier than before.

3. Added an iPhone-like lock screen that displays whenever returning from the "Display off" or "Standby" power modes. See MioPocket Settings->Skin->"Disable lock screen" to disable it. Also configured the PowerButton app to run MioPocket's "Display off" script for all defined devices so that the lock screen is used when pressing such devices' off buttons. To set it back to the old behavior, open MioAutoRun\Programs\TroNik\PowerButton.ini, find the correct line for your device and change it to equal "off" (no quotes).

4. Added taskbar skinning. See MioPocket Settings->Skin->"Taskbar skin" to switch skins or disable skinning. Skinning uses ~0.6MB of RAM when the taskbar is visible (and none when it's not visible).

5. Updated Media Player (TCPMP) to a new version that introduces skinning support and created skins for all resolutions. The right skin for the resolution and orientation will be automatically selected. Also, GDI is now the default video mode, so that videos can be played without first having to set up GAPI.

6. Replaced Opera Mobile with Opera Mini, which has a very different interface that is more finger/touch friendly.

7. Added AlReader, another book reader that rivals uBook, but without the demo screens. Also set the MioPocket Readme to open in it, rather than Opera.

8. Added TascalSearch, a file search tool. (thanks to jwoegerbauer)

9. Added 14 new games: Pocket Uno, 3210, Binary, Blackjack, Connect 4, Crosswords (Scrabble), Duck Hunt, Flash Chess, Mahjong, Missile Strike, Pong, Royal Poker, Spider Solitaire and Sudoku. Due to time and space reasons, they are added only to the new MioPocket 4.0 skins. Also, removed Doom, which will now be in the Old Games Add-on.

10. Replaced the Caisses game with a different Sokoban clone, called Warehouse Guy, that has much better controls (especially for fingers).

11. Consolidated the SD and SDFree scripts (MioAutoRun.mscr and MioMap.mscr, respectively) into one script, MioAutoRun.mscr. This means that the SDFree folder is no longer needed and SDFree installation now involves copying and renaming MioAutoRun.mscr. Also consolidated the SD and SDFree startup menus into a single menu.

12. Copying a new MioPocket release over an old one will no longer overwrite the existing MioPocket.ini (which contains most MioPocket settings). Also, if any settings needed for the new release are missing in the old MioPocket.ini, they will be written to the file. Finally, the icons and settings for iPhoneToday (4.0) skins will not be overwritten.

13. Installation will now convert any free space on the "\" drive to available RAM. This will maximize the amount of RAM available on devices, increasing it by 0-3MB, depending on the device (though most will probably see 0-1MB).

14. Re-wrote the code that handles what happens when resetting after installation. It will also now copy coredl2.dll to \Windows and create more room there, if necessary, for that and the other DLLs if resetting doesn't work. Also, Explorer will now be killed and re-launched to activate certain changes that otherwise wouldn't happen without a soft reset, particularly MioPocket's replacement of the Windows CE desktop wallpaper (meaning such devices will now get to see that wallpaper).

15. Re-wrote how MioPocket's apps are killed (then re-run) when launching nav apps (like MioMap and iGO). Now, the same script that backs up the registry every 10 minutes also checks every 15 seconds whether a nav app is running and kills MioPocket's apps. This means that it's no longer necessary to launch nav apps through MioPocket's scripts (like iGOLauncher.mscr). A user may map an icon directly to iGo8.exe, for example, and MioPocket will automatically take care of freeing memory. Still, it's recommended to continue using the scripts because they free up about 1MB more memory, which is also 1MB more than could be freed up in previous releases. Also, made "Close MioPocket during nav apps" the new default setting.

16. Added the ability (in MioPocket Settings->System->Manage Startup Apps) to list a couple of apps to kill while MioPocket is starting up, as well as a couple to run. This provides an easier and safer way to kill or run OEM software at startup. The older, more advanced method is still available, but is now blocked for devices with persistent registries, for safety reasons. Also made it so that choosing Cancel in any of those sub-menus throws you back to previous menu, not to the root menu of MioPocket Settings.

17. Upgraded MortScript to v4.3b15. This could improve compatibility on newer, CE6 devices.

18. Updated nPOP (the e-mail client) to v2.14.

19. Updated SpreadCE to v2.04. (thanks to jwoegerbauer)

20. Replaced the volume control utility with one that has a mute button and removed the muting behavior when it's launched.

21. Added program for setting backlight, volume and more on Mio Moov devices and set the Device Menu and Device Settings icons on the Settings page to run it. (credit to Hellrayser)

22. Added Pocket Tweak (an app for tweaking system settings) to Control Panel.

23. Updated Task Switcher (MioPocket's alternate task switcher app) to v1.6.

24. Replaced the CE wallpaper with one that takes up quite a bit less RAM. Also added a second wallpaper that can be chosen via MioPocket Settings.

25. Installation will now create a "Backup" folder on the flash drive and store the pre-installation registry backup, init.txt (renamed to StartupApps.reg) and StartupApps.reg there. If MioPocket is uninstalled via the "Remove MP" icon on the Settings page, those backups are moved to a "MioPocket Backup" folder on the installation drive so that they're not deleted along with the rest of MioPocket and may be used to manually fix the device if uninstallation is unable to.

26. Installation no longer applies USB registry settings, since USB is an important lifeline for failed installations and changing its settings can break it on some devices. As a result, the USB mode ought to be the same as it was pre-installation, which is Mass Storage mode on most devices, and the user will need to manually change that to ActiveSync via the USB Mode icon on the Settings page if ActiveSync is what they prefer. Also, running the USB Mode menu for the first time backs up the registry settings that get changed and an entry is added to the menu to restore them in case the settings included in MioPocket for "ActiveSync" and "Mass Storage" mode fail to work with the device.

27. Fixed footer icons not showing pressed effect on the Windows 7 Ultimate 800x480 skin.

28. Manual registry backup on devices with hive-based registries should display the standard prompt and success message now.

29. Repllog.exe will no longer be added to the CE notifications table on startup unless ActiveSync USB mode is set. This might solve freezing when connecting the device to a non-Windows computer (as long as ActiveSync USB mode is not set).

30. When using the "Remove MioPocket" script on a device with a hive/disk-based registry, the registry value that enables MioPocket to run at startup is now removed.

31. Deleted VirtualEarthMobile.exe.config to fix a .NET error when running Virtual Earth Mobile on some devices (probably related to pre-existing .NET installations).

32. Added TapRight.exe to MioAutoRun\Programs and a shortcut to the CE desktop. It's a handy little tool for displaying a right-click (context) menu anywhere. To use, run it and then tap on the element that you want a right-click menu for. This is particularly handy for interacting with the CE desktop.

33. Added TroNik's ToolbarHide.exe, ToolbarShow.exe, ToolbarToggle.exe and ToolbarMove.exe to manipulate the toolbar in apps. (credit to Tronik)

34. Automatic registry backup should no longer display an error if the backup cannot be written (ex. if drive is full). Manual registry backup will display a more insightful error. Also, fixed installation trying to import 0-byte registry files and delivering "Syntax error" messages. 0-byte registry files can result from lack of disk space when backing up the registry.

35. Fixed some of the icons on the Control Panel being incorrect. (credit to TroNik)

36. Replaced the GAPI driver with the "alternate" one that used to be installable via MioPocket's GAPI menu. This simply removes an extra step for a large number of users.

37. Fixed an error message when setting the language in MioPocket Settings to Dutch.

38. Added provisioning XML support. Put appropriate .xml files into MioAutoRun\Registry\XML to have them imported during installation. (credit to daniHG)

39. The system font setting is now backed up with the registry.

40. Fixed ROMExtractor not working as expected when the user has changed the window colors (via Control Panel->Display->Appearance).

41. Fixed issue with the MiniBar not being run after returning from Standby via MioPocket's power menu. Also, the "Waiting for SD card to initialize..." message when returning from Standby with SD installation should no longer display if it's not necessary.

42. Fixed issue with the correct EuroKeyboard layout for the screen width not applying when certain apps rotate the screen by themselves (i.e. not via scripts). This affected MS Reader, for example, making it hard to browse Encarta Pocket Dictionary.

43. Added Win32 programs CFF Explorer, Resource Hacker and Panasonic's SD Formatter to the Win32 folder and moved the "Win32" folder outside of the MioAutoRun folder (so that it doesn't take up space on the device) and into a new "Extras" folder. Also moved the Win32 apps ASRDisp.* and cePIMS_eva021009.exe to "Remote Display" and "cePIMS (Outlook Synchronization)" sub-folders, respectively. Also moved the "Patches" folder to "Extras."

44. Changes to the "Regional Settings" Control Panel applet are now backed up. Also, the applet is launched after setting the MioPocket language via the "System->Set language" option in MioPocket Settings.

45. If MioPocket's language hasn't been set, it will be set from the locale that CE is set for. (thanks to abram, daniHG, jwoegerbauer)

46. Updated MioPocketLanguage-German.mscr. (credit to jwoegerbauer)

47. The iGO launcher script (iGoLauncher2.mscr) now disables Outlook contacts lookup in iGO8, since, for some people, it leads to a long wait on startup at the "POI Manager Init" stage.

48. Uninstallation via the "Uninstall MioPocket" icon will now ask if the user want to delete MioPocket's files. Not deleting them would be particularly useful for SD installations, as well as any installations on most generic/no-name Chinese devices, so that the user can re-install at a later point without having to re-copy files.

49. Added keyboard languages (Croatian, Czech, Cyrillic, Greek, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese), as well as a sub-menu in MioPocket Settings (under System->Install Keyboard Language) to switch between them. (credit to jwoegerbauer)

50. Added languages for the Total Commander file manager (set via Show->About/Settings).

51. Added icons for iGO Primo. The files are iGOPrimo.png (MP 4.0 skins), iGOPrimo.ico (MP 3.0 skins except for Stopword) and navi-igoprimo.ico (Stopword).

52. The "\Application Data" folder will now be re-directed to an "Application Data" folder on MioPocket's installation drive. This helps Virtual Earth Mobile, particularly, since it caches its map to that folder by default. Also, the Start Menu is now re-directed to the flash drive.

53. Fixed issue with rare devices displaying "Couldn't create directory <path>" error messages during installation when the flash drive path could not be determined.

54. Removed the outdated 1.0/1.2 skins (Blue, Ice and Metal) and the GSThemes skins.

55. Added some code to Bluetooth.mscr to enable/disable the Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service. (credit to jwoegerbauer)

56. Fixed the MiniBar "hide" icon not changing when clicking on it on Windows 7 skins.

57. Renamed numerous scripts: AudioMute.mscr->Volume.mscr, CloseActiveWindow.mscr->WindowClose.mscr, MainShell-Exit.mscr->MainShellExit.mscr, MinimizeActiveWindow->WindowHide.mscr, RouteManager.mscr->MioMapRouteManager.mscr, SkinManager.mscr->MioMapSkinManager.mscr, SysInfo-Close.mscr->ShellClose.mscr, SysInfo-Start.mscr->ShellStart.mscr, SysInfo-Restart.mscr->ShellRestart.mscr. Also deleted all *Launcher2.mscr scripts, since they are no longer needed with the new nav app launch method.

58. Added automatic logging to installation and startup. This is useful for seeing where either hangs or otherwise fails. The installation log is <installdrive>\MioAutoRun\Backup\InstallLog.txt and the startup log is <installdrive>\MioAutoRun\Backup\StartupLog.txt.

59. Medion-only: The "Device Settings" icon now runs what "Device Menu" icon ran before, but with the MiniBar, so that the menu can be exited. Also, the "Device Menu" icon now run displays the Medion "CleanUp" menu. (thanks to jwoegerbauer)

60. Mio Digiwalker-only: Fixed screen getting stuck on Mio menu when disconnecting USB in Mass Storage mode.

61. Added an "About MioPocket" entry to MioPocket Settings.

Thanks, both of you. Yeah, it takes some getting used to, but it doesn't take very long to become comfortable with it. I did try to make it as familiar to MioPocket users as possible.

I'm sure that it won't take very long at all for people to understand what's so nice about this new shell and some of the reasoning for the switch. There are even more reasons that the average user may not even notice (like how all resolutions use the same icons and how you don't lose your icon arrangement when you change your skin, just two examples out of many).

In all, hopefully, people will still recognize it as MioPocket and come to appreciate how much of an improvement it is as they really start to work with it (ex. customizing the skin, customizing their icons, tweaking the icon size and placement, etc.).

Great release Osprey,
There's much to explore!
The 4 month wait for a new release was definitely worth it!

So far, I only found two minor problems in this awesome release:
1) The free RAM icon in "Settings" actually shows used RAM, which can be easily changed. (icon type = "17" not 18)
2) Also when running portrait programs and games, it is easy to accidentally press another icon on the lower have of the screen. I just set the iphonetoday settings -> "Animation" -> "Delay 2nd part of animation for (ms)" to "5000" to keep a black screen behind the application. This prevents confusion when the shell rotates, and also, surprisingly, the app ( under full resolution ) keeps the black background behind during the time of use :)

Other than that, I would like to commend you on your dedication and commitment to this project. The hours you put in is probably innumerable.
Thank you for your hard work!

EDIT: Also, in my opinion, the "Text quality" option under "Transparency" should not be set to anti-aliasing, because it doesn't make that much difference in our Mio devices (should be set to "Default"). On the contrary, "Text qual. in icons" should be set to "Cleartype" which actually makes the icons such as the battery and RAM gauges look much better.

Osprey,

really awesome! And it works! Only one remark: RAM-optimization is exaggerated, thus I can't run "EveryWan" or similiar utility.

You should reserve at least 500KB for such purposes.

Thanks again.

hi! great new release. the introduction od iphonetoday is a great add-on.

anyway, i encounter many many bugs, but i guess this is related to my device the ipaq 314.

anyway, if i could get help to solve some, it cound be great
- sometime, when i try to lauch some programs, i got an error 'this not a valid winCE file". after a soft reset, i can launch those programs again
- mediaplayer/tcmp crashes at startup "unexpected program failure.please send "crash/txt to developers. program will now exit"... and i cannot find crash.txt. i previously cinfigured gapi driver to ipaq 314, with no result
- i have error message from iphonetoday when i launch Igo...anyway this is a minor bug because igo is launched anyway. i was surprised i did'nt have to configure anything to get the igo icon working.
- in many apps, the top right "x" (close button) don't work (cecommander, xnview...) (only way to exit=reset button sometimes). not permanent.. this happen only sometimes

just a question. do i have something special to do to properly remove a application from miopocket, or just deleting files and icon?

I would like to remove all applications that do not work well with 800x480 and try to find some high-res equivalent to replace them.

Hi All,

I'm totally newbie here. I've bought Moov v735 a week ago (my very first one).
I tried to install MioPocket on it (on SD) by following ReadMe file bud didn't manage it.
I created 'Default' folder on SD root, copied/renamed files to 'auto...', copied needed folders and rebooted but nothing happened.
Can someone help me please?
Thx

@H226 and all

increase in file Unlock.mscr value 200 to 1024

#########################
#Post-installation
#########################
...
#If not a hive/disk-based registry, re-adjust the memory division again
#(so that exactly 100KB is free), now that installation is complete
If(not HiveRegistry AND DirExists("\"))
	...
	RunWait(ProgramsFolder\"TroNik\SetSystemMemoryDivisionKB.exe",
		TotalDiskSpace("\", KB) - FreeDiskSpace("\", KB) + 1024)
EndIf

and you are able to run Win32 apps like CeRegEditor, EveryWan Remote, etc.

@Osprey and @Tronik,

my respect! MioPocket 4.0 (regarding iPhoneToday skin) indeed actually is a a quantum transition compared with MioPocket 3.0 Rel.59.

I'm excited though the download is sooo slow. As in turtle slow or turtle slower than slow. I'm excited for the touch scroll feature. I thought Tronik said it is not possible? But hey can't wait to try.

Yeah. Something is wrong, download is slow then it goes to another empty window. Is there no mirror image? Im bummed. :(

I'm having an install problem.

I'm using the SD Method, It starts installing MioPocket but gets this error messege:
Couldn't write value in HKCU\ControlPanel\Desktop\Wallpaper

Line 539 (\Storage card\MioAutoRun\Scripts\Unlock.mscr):
RegWriteString("HKCU", "ControlPanel\Desktop", "Wallpaper", Wallpaper)

I click "OK" thn another "OK" again then displays my original MioMap software.
I reformatted card using the Panisonic reformatter and tried again but get same results.

Everyone,
My apologies for the bugs. I forgot to mention it this time, but each major release like this is going to have major bugs for the first week or so. If you don't like being a beta tester of sorts, simply wait a few days or weeks before upgrading. I'm fixing things ASAP.

mathwiz314,
1. Thanks (re: Free RAM icon). I don't know how I overlooked that.
2. Nice job. Yep, that hides the shell. I noticed that the shell's icons are still clickable, though, so I just spent some time re-writing the rotation script and it now blocks out the shell completely: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]. Also, I found that disabling animation for the Rotate icons greatly speeds up manual rotating.
3. Well, like you said, it doesn't appear to make a difference on our devices, so there appears to be no harm in it. Maybe leaving it on will mean that a few devices out there (like CE6 devices or something) might get better text quality.
4. I don't quite agree. The ClearType setting creates awfully blurry text. I think that low resolution text that's crisp is better than high resolution text that's blurry, especially when the rest of the text in the shell is low resolution and crisp, as well; it matches better.

H226,
jwoegerbauer is right, bue he didn't notice that there's more than one call to SetSystemMemoryDivision.exe. Please download and copy the following to MioAutoRun\Scripts and re-install: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]

gandalf_barbones,
1. Did it soft reset immediately after installation completed? If not, that's probably it. If it did reset, I don't know why you'd get such errors.
2. Hmm. It's probably related to the skinning. Try renaming the MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player\Skins folder. BTW, crash.txt is saved to your My Documents folder, which ought to be on the same drive as MioPocket.
3. I believe that I found the source of the error. It's the message about the "NavMinimize" triangle. It's displayed only one time, so isn't a big deal, but I'll fix it, anyways, of course. If you're having some other message that occurs every time, let me know.
4. Do you mean the MiniBar's close button (that hovers over all apps)? If so, then does it display the power menu, instead?
5. Yes, just delete the icon and then browse to MioAutoRun\Programs and find and delete the program.

dadoozg,
With some Moovs, you need to get GPS lock in MioMap before the autorun file will run. If that doesn't help, try reading through step 5 of the SD installation instructions again.

tomek,
Oh, I think that I may know the problem. Go into Opera Mini, press the MiniBar icon in the lower-right corner, choose "Hide MiniBar 20s," press Opera's wrench icon that was hidden behind the MiniBar, choose Settings, scroll down to Advanced and change the "Protocol" from "Socket" to "HTTP."

rauva,
So, you want the MiniBar open while your nav app is running? Have you tried using the blue, "NavMinimize" triangle in the upper-right corner? It should minimize your nav app and takes up less screen space than the MiniBar. Even if you can't see it in the nav app, try pressing the very upper-right corner and it should work. If not, I can still help you get the MiniBar back, but I think that you'll be happier with the triangle.

jacko5,
Argh. That error has plagued me numerous times since upgrading the MortScript release. Try this... open up MioAutoRun.mscr (or whatever you had to rename it to), find the following...
If(NavAppOption eq "Exit")
	Exit
Else
	Call("RunOrigNavApp")
	Exit
EndIf
...and replace it with...
If(NavAppOption eq "Exit")
	Exit
EndIf
Call("RunOrigNavApp")
Exit
Janne,
I think that I found the bug. Please download and copy the following to MioAutoRun\Scripts and let me know: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]

miolover,
Yes, there's a mirror download now. As for the touch scroll feature, iPhoneToday has had it from the beginning (and before TroNik took it over), so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Carpenter940,
Hopefully, the new Unlock.mscr that I linked for H226 near the top of this post will fix that for you.

I don't know if this has been reported. But the last icon beside the calendar in the 'taskbar' what does it do? coz it is not doing anything. The new games are FTW! I instantly got addicted with UNO. Although there is no way to exit any game. The usual all in one X button script is not running. The touch scroll is good. Though not the same effect in iphones but still real good addition. Good job. Been long time since I played with my GPS. My sis said, 'Wow nice phone'. I said, "No it's my GPS!"

miolover,
1. That icon toggles the MiniBar. It works for me. It runs MioAutoRun\Scripts\MiniBarToggle.mscr. If that script is somehow missing, that could explain it. Also, it won't run if you have disabled the MiniBar via MioPocket Settings; have you done that? Regardless, try this: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]
2. I can exit UNO just fine with the MiniBar. You're saying that the hovering close button (which is part of the MiniBar) isn't closing it? Is it closing any apps? Maybe you should think about re-copying the MioAutoRun\Skin\MiniBar folder, since that and the toggling issue sound a little suspicious.
3. I don't know for sure how the iPhone scrolls or know if iPhoneToday can be made to scroll more like it, but note that you can tweak the scrolling a little bit via the "Skin Options" icon (on the Skin Changer and also on the Settings page) and the settings on its "Movement" tab. Perhaps the "free-style" scrolling option is more to your liking.

@Osprey

Your new unlock.mscr worked great, I can now install Miopocket. I also have a working keyboard, thanks.

I still can't get a USB connection by just connecting, but I can get it to connect if I plug in my cable, then directly run usbscreen.exe. It does give me these errors:
Application mortscript.exe has preformed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
and
Application auto.exe has preformed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
but all I need to do is press "ok" on each of those and it connects.

After disconnecting Miopocket comes right back and runs again great.

3) I mentioned anti-aliasing, because I was guessing maybe it took more RAM and CPU time than just the "Default" setting.
4)About the Cleartype,
I agree about the blurred text on the icon labels, it's really disgusting and illegible. But, I was trying to say that the text inside the icons (i.e. battery percentage) looks much better when only they are set to "Cleartype"

Osprey: Gotcha. I ran minibar.exe manually and the x button script pop out. Then I check MP setting and for some reason mini bar is disabled. I enabled it, prob solved. Does it really pop out for 320x240 screens? Coz i noticed there are 2 icons beside the calendar in your GPS. I only have the, I think keyboard button next to the minibar icon?(the last icon in your GPS). So why is my keyboard icon not doing anything? Even if it pops out with minibar enabled. There is other way to enable keyboard anyway just wondering why that icon does not work for me.

I already solved the hovering close button prob but to answer your question. I can't close the games coz there's no hovering close button to begin with coz apparently mini bar is disabled.. Oh and i am soo gonna try the freestyle scroll.

The effect I want is when you want to scroll like in iphones you just kinda flick your fingers in any direction you want and the page scrolls. Unlike the scroll effect in your program that you have to drag to whatever direction u want.

Carpenter940,
I'm glad that it's working. As for USB, I'm not familiar with this Usbscreen.exe that you're referring to. If it needs to run when you plug the USB in, try adding a command to run it (Run("<fullpath>\Usbscreen.exe")) near the top of MioAutoRun\Scripts\Initialize.mscr (somewhere after the "##############" line). If that works, you could tell me the full path to the file and I could add it to my Initialize.mscr.

mathwiz314,
3. Maybe, but I would think that it'd be insignificant. I'll do a little testing, though. EDIT: No observable change in memory and iPhoneToday's CPU usage is 0 when idle.
4. Yeah, I understood. That's what looks blurry to me... but, looking at it more, I guess that it's not so bad and people might prefer it. I'll set it to ClearType for now, but, if I can't get used to it, I may set it back. You win for now, though :)

miolover,
1. The new MiniBar is only two buttons (a keyboard button and a button to the "MiniMenu," as I call it, which has loads more buttons) and it's exactly the same for all resolutions, so you have the same thing that I have.
2. Has the MiniBar keyboard button ever worked for you in MioPocket? It's running the same script that it did in 3.0. If it's never worked, then your device has a problem with SIP keyboards and you're going to have to set the MiniBar keyboard to JOTKBD via MioPocket Settings.
3. You can adjust the sensitivity on the Movement tab of Skin Options (FYI to everyone, you can also access "Skin Options" by tapping and holding on an empty part of the shell and choosing Options). By making it extremely sensitive, you can probably make it a lot more like the iPhone. The default settings that I included are a bit conservative, since I wasn't sure how sensitive to make it. Maybe I'll make a bit more sensitive out of the box. BTW, the shell is actually TroNik's program, not mine.

Janne,
I'm not sure where the problem is, but you can likely solve it by opening MioPocket.ini and manually setting the last line ("Language") to the language that you want (without quotes or spaces)...example:
Language=Swedish

Jacko5,
I don't think that you replaced it correctly. Try the MioAutoRun.mscr that I've fixed: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]

Everyone,
I have a bit of a poll/questionnaire here for anyone interested:

1. Should I remove the old shell (SystemInformation) from MioPocket? If you haven't noticed, it's still there and you can still select and use the older skins (Windows 7 Ultimate, Vista and Stopword). I wanted to leave them in because I wasn't sure if everyone would take to the new shell. The thing is, though, that the SystemInformation folder takes up 32MB, which is quite the waste of space if everyone prefers the new shell. Should I delete it and free up that much space on everyone's cards/drives or should I leave it in?

2. Should I make the default scrolling movement a bit more sensitive, so that you can scroll through icons by dragging your finger less of a distance? Should I go all the way and make it sensitive enough that minor flicks of the finger will change pages? If you'd like to play with the settings, yourself, to see what it's like with more sensitive settings, see the "Movement" tab after clicking on the "Skin Options" icon (on the Settings page or in the Skin Changer).

3. Should I disable the clicking sound that plays when you press an icon? It's nice when you don't mind it, but might be unwanted in some situations. Also, a consideration (and the reason why I thought to ask) is that it plays frequently when you're simply scrolling around and not actually launching anything. If you'd like to disable it, yourself, to see how you like it, see the "On Launch" tab of "Skin Options" and use the keyboard to clear out the "Pressed sound" path (no, the "Allow sound on launch" checkbox is for something else).

Also, I'm interested in any opinions on the new MiniBar (and, especially, the new menu that pops up from it), the new skin changer, the lockscreen and anything else that you want to share you thoughts on. Thanks.

@Osprey,

if I close MioPocket 4.0 via "PowerPrompt" menu

case 7
	CallScript("ShellClose.mscr")
	Exit

my device gets dead-locked, will say the default device's power-options don't appear anymore if pressing the power-button: only a hard-reset helps!

First of all, thanks for the new release. I will try to respond to your questionaire, even I did not have enough time to do a full test of all new features.

In my opinion you should do this

quote:
2. Should I make the default scrolling movement a bit more sensitive,

Yes you should and in addition I would prefer a third option to flip trough pages: Two (invisible) buttons (Bottombar or Topbar) with the --goto:next command
Reason:
1. changing via Topbar is great but not very fingerfriendly
2. fliping trough pages is also great, but you will see scratches on Touchscreen after a while (I don't want any protection foil). Please note the original iPhone screen made of glas.

Therefore such a third otion would be nice.

quote:
3. Should I disable the clicking sound that plays when you press an icon?

I think best is everyone decides this him/herself

quote:
3. What do you think of the new MiniBar, especially the "MiniMenu" that pops up when you press the right-most icon?

Great!! Also the new look of Taskmanager is great!

quote:
4. What do you think of the new skin changer?

What about an option to implement own skins?

quote:
5. What do you think of the lock screen? :)

Haven't tested that yet, but saw that Lockscreen is only available @ Power Menu, which makes may not s much sense, as one can same way go into standby. What's about starting LS direct from input screen? After 5 Minutes locked, device goes automatically into standby?

Somethin else:
The new volume button is great, but (tested on two different devices), but open and close and then immediately open again is not working. Funny thing, if you run taskmanager and close volume runs again.

Why is RunWait.exe running?

jwoegerbauer,
Interesting. I wonder if it's the...
RunWait(ProgramsFolder\"TaskMgr.exe", "/hibernate")
...line at the end of ShellClose.mscr, which would be ironic, since you were the one telling me to add hibernation ability (not with TaskMgr.exe, but that Oxios app) :). Anyways, try putting a # sign in front of that line and let me know if that solves it. If it doesn't, try adding # signs to the starts of various lines in the file until you determine where the freezing is happening.

Jacko5,
I can't understand why you're getting that error. Did you copy the new MortScript.exe to the same folder as MioAutoRun.mscr (i.e. didn't just leave the same MortScript.exe that you had before)? Even if you believe that you did, try re-copying it.

tomek,
I don't know, then, sorry. I don't have a WiFi card, so the ActiveSync connection is the only one that I can test. Maybe some other users with WiFi cards can tell you if Opera Mini works for them or offer any ideas for you.

Janne,
1. The menu has touch scrolling. Touch the screen and drag up to scroll down to the other icons :):
2. You press the icons and nothing happens? All icons or just certain ones, and which ones?

flickflack,
Sorry. Here you go: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]

3. For some reason, I don't have a clicking sound, I think it is just my GPS. Having probs with sound.

Actually, I think the keyboard ICON should be removed in the minibar menu since there already is a keyboard choice in the minibar icon. I actually tried to delete the icon myself but, well, i dont know what script to delete and what part. I mainly want it coz I remember the keyboard icon stop working in my GPS in the last version of MP3. What I did then was use the CE taskbar and ran keyboard icon from there. I don't know what happened. If CE taskbar rans the built in keyboard, why not from MP script?

Anyway, like I said built in keyboard, can be ran from minibar icon. So I just want to get rid of the keyboard icon since it's useless to me and taking unwanted screen space.

bumbum,
1. Simply go into the Skin Changer and change the "TopBar Icons" to, say "Aluminum," or choose the "Aluminum Glass" preset. That makes the top bar icons much more finger-friendly.
2. I don't think that you can scratch the touchscreens with your fingernails. They're built strong enough so that doesn't happen (and your fingernails are soft, anyways).
3. Yes (re: everyone choosing for himself), but I was asking about what the default should be.
4. You can already customize the skins by either choosing the "Custom" icons on the wallpaper and background pages or clicking on "Skin Options" and using iPhoneToday's own settings dialog.
5. I think that having the lock screen accessible via the power menu makes sense. If anyone wants an icon in the shell, though, it's really easy for him or her to create one.
6. The volume can be a little flakey because it's one of those apps that puts an icon in the tray. If you try to bring up the volume and nothing happens, try again. It just about always works the 2nd time for me.
7. The new task manager has its OK button right where the MiniBar is, so the MiniBar is killed when the task manager is run. RunWait.exe is what launched the task manager and it's waiting until the task manager is closed, so that it can re-run the MiniBar. It exits when that happens.

Thanks for the feedback.

miolover,
1. It's MioAutoRun\Skin\SystemInformation.
2. The "Select Keyboard" option on the MiniMenu brings up the keyboard selection menu. Yeah, selecting a keyboard then brings it up, but that's too many steps (3... displaying the MiniMenu, choosing "Select Keyboard" and then selecting a keyboard) for convenience, IMO. I did consider moving the keyboard icon to the MiniMenu, but I figured that the keyboard is one thing that you need to use a lot and it should probably be just one tap away. If lots of other people speak up and suggest that it's a good idea to move it to the MiniMenu, I'll certainly consider it. Anyways, to answer your question, to remove it, the file that you need to edit is MioAutoRun\Skin\MiniBar\Skins\Default\MiniBar.ini.

Oxios's HIBERNATE puts all running apps into idle mode (thus Program Memory allocated by those apps partially gets freed), whereas TASKMGR /hibernate puts the device into hibernation state. That's the main difference, one should be aware of!

I have tried Miopocket 4.0 on my SD card and resident flash and keep getting the same error.

what does mean "new MortScript.exe"? (one from 4.0?)

jwoegerbauer,
TaskMgr.exe's /hibernate command, according to the Readme (which I included as MioAutoRun\Programs\TaskMgr.txt), broadcasts the WM_HIBERNATE message. That's exactly the same thing that you said that Oxios' program does. Anyways, did commenting the line out solve the problem? I'll gladly remove it, if so, since it doesn't do a thing for my free memory and I added it only because of your recommendation.

danielp67, Jacko5,
Yes, by "new MortScript.exe," I meant the one included in 4.0. It's a newer version than the one that was in 3.0. It sounds like it may be causing the problem, though. Try copying the MortScript.exe from an earlier MioPocket release (like R59) to where you copied MioAutoRun.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr, overwriting it. Here you go, so that you don't need to download an entire old release: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]

#RunWait(ProgramsFolder\"TaskMgr.exe", "/hibernate") => didn't change anything in device's behaviour. Obviously I have to fathom the reason for myself, ASAP.

On 1, my mistake for not reading all I should have.
As for "nothing happens"

I tried a few tools and games and they all come back with:

Cannot find "x" or one of its components. Make sure that
the path.......

"x" being filemance, cecmd, regedit, and frecell.

When trying e.g. Miomap or any other app, the screen goes black
for a short while, the the icons are back.

My guess is that a libpath is missing somewhere.

Pls advice

Osprey: This part is what i deleted in minibar.ini. When I deleted this, the minibar icon beside the calendar works now. Strange. I also adjusted the movement tab and the scrolling kinda behaves like the iphone.

I C O N X P B U T T O N
x = 0
y = 0
O f f s e t = 0
N e w I n i = . . \ . . \ . . \ . . \ S c r i p t s \ K e y b o a r d . m s c r
S i z e N o r m a l = 3 1
S i z e P u s h e d = 3 1
S c a l e A l p h a = 1 0 0
I c o n N o r m a l = . . \ . . \ I c o n s \ M i n i B a r K e y b o a r d . i c o
S c a l e A l p h a = 4 0
I c o n P u s h e d = . . \ . . \ I c o n s \ M i n i B a r K e y b o a r d . i c o

The icon is gone but it was replaced by black grey background. Is there something else i should delete? So the calendar icon in 'taskbar' will be shown. I found the culprit on keyboard not running. I manually run keyboard.mscr(clearly that's the script to run keyboard) and it won't run, so something in the script is not compatible with my GPS. I tried to debug the prob but I don't understand the syntax. Keyboardselect.mscr is running though. If you cant help me get rid of the black/grey thing, I would just replace keyboard.mscr with Keyboardselect.mscr in the script. I prefer that black/grey background removed though.

There is a new version to uBook reader:

"Anybody with the same issue can (for now) download a zip file of uBook 2010 that seems to work for any ARM processor / any CE version 3.0-6.0. Unzip on or off the unit and copy the files (keeping the folder structure) anywhere on your unit. You should be able to start manually (uBook.exe) and you may have to create shortcuts or icons manually too."

In my opinion, yes, because a lot of times (especially when scrolling up/down) I accidentally click icons. Setting the movement threshold to 10 instead of 20 solves most of that problem.

maybe you should keep the default as no sound and set it as an option in Miopocket Settings.

@Osprey
as much as I like the new volume app, it didn't work for me. Tested on Medion 4435 and Becker 7928. Start it under settings, it starts once a time and then not again. Starting under MiniMenu it starts always, but having started it once a time, MiniMenu needs several clicks to start again. In both cases settings of volume are not stored, means start again it is like it was before.

Have tested now a little bit longer, all in all a real sensation!! Thanks!

I strongly support bumbum's suggestion, i.e. to add 2 invisible (48x48) buttons

Osprey and jwoegerbauer,

I have tested the Gopal specific device menu. This ends up in a screen asking for insert SD Card? That could not be what you both want!? Seems for me the DeviceMenu.mscr is starting Mainshell.exe in Windows instead of ST.exe for the cleanup Menu. Don't know exactly if I am right.

jwoegerbauer

As you of course have seen, I found a way to complete overrule the stupid Superpin question ( in the Tips & Tricks & Wishlist & More Thread), I have beneath other things to kill ST.exe in Unlock.mscr. Now I found that ST.exe is somehow responsible for activesync connection. Or described in other words, after MP is started without ST.exe and I start ST.exe manually again and klick Gopal "o", AS is starting and I can then kill ST.exe again.
As I saw somewhere a script solution made by you to start cleanup via Mouseklick, would you please be so kind and share with me?
Thanks!

Ok, that's good. Now (in addition to my earlier instructions), copy the older MortScript.exe over the one in MioAutoRun\Scripts and the one in MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript.

Zoek,
You're in the same boat as jacko5 and danielp67. Please see my messages to them on these last two pages.

e-one,
The SDFree folder is no longer needed. I consolidated the scripts so that you now do SDFree installation using the same files (MioAutoRun.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr) as SD installation.

Janne,
That's odd because those apps don't have scripts (so one less thing to go wrong). The icons go directly to...
<drive>\MioAutoRun\Programs\FileManCE2\FileManCE.exe
<drive>\MioAutoRun\Programs\Total Commander\cecmd.exe
<drive>\MioAutoRun\Programs\Regedit.exe
<drive>\MioAutoRun\Programs\Games\Microsoft\freecell.exe

If you run those from Explorer (or from the Start Menu), do they still not work? If you can, look in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader, double-tap on the SystemPath value and confirm that one of the entries is <drive>\MioAutoRun\System\CE4\. Even though the regedit above doesn't work, there are a couple others...
<drive>\MioAutoRun\Programs\PHM Tools\Regedit.exe
<drive>\MioAutoRun\Programs\Power Toys\pregedit.exe
...and you can also check the registry by changing the USB mode to ActiveSync and running Extras\Win32\Mobile Registry Editor from a Windows computer.

bsweeny,
I haven't been looking for an answer for you. I pointed you in the right direction to find the answer, yourself, remember? You can Google and read forums as well as I can, and you have the device to test on; I don't. If you find out how to unlock an Omnitech, you can come back and tell me and I can add it to the Readme. That's how every other device's instructions got in the Readme: someone figured it out (either on his/her own or from researching and learning from someone else) and told me.

miolover,
Now you need to reduce the "width" value near the top of the file, to 31, I believe, and change the "x" value for the one icon remaining (which is, currently, 35) to 0.

jwoegerbauer,
Thanks. I believe that I've fixed it.

hz348,
Excellent. Thanks! I wanted to include the new 2010 version a few months ago, but was getting an intermittent bug that I notified the author about. Hopefully, he's fixed it.

yang,
Did you remember to copy the Asus file that is now under Extras\Device-Specific Install? If not, read the Asus part of SD installation in the Readme again, to be sure.

mathwiz,
1. Hmm. That's an idea. It wouldn't make the download any smaller, but would make what people copy to their cards smaller. Actually... I should've thought of this before: I can include it in an "Old Skins Add-on" that people can download separately! That's probably the ticket. Thanks for the initial idea.
2. Thanks! I'm really proud of the new "MiniMenu" (as I call it) that pops up from the new MiniBar. I wish that I had thought of that two years ago. I could've done the same thing back then, if I had only thought of it. I felt stupid when I realized that, heh. Oh well.
3. Whoops. Thanks for pointing that (the "IP Utilities" icon) out. For now, simply edit the icon and change it to point to MioAutoRun\Scripts\IPUtilitiesMenu.mscr.

bumbum,
I'll see if I can do something about the new volume control. For now, though, you can edit MioAutoRun\Scripts\Volume.mscr and change calls to "VolumeX.exe" to "VolumeCtrl.exe" (the app from previous releases, which is still included). You may need to comment out one of the calls, though, since, as I said, VolumeX.exe sometimes needs to be run twice, whereas VolumeCtrl.exe does not.

bumbum and jwoegerbauer,
I don't really see the point, since you can already switch pages with both the touch scrolling and with the top bar icons (which, as I mentioned before, you can turn on the icon graphics for and even increase the size of those icons up to 96x96 through "Skin Options"). "Page Left" and "Page Right" buttons would take up icon space, either on each page or on the bottom bar (or on the top bar, but it'd be too cramped), but you two are more than welcome to add them on your own. It's quite easy to do.

@Osprey
Silly question: Are you going to include an "Old Games Add-on" for R60? Just wondering.

Also, not that I care that much, but I noticed you removed pocket DOOM from R60. Is there reason behind it (i.e. save space)? Truly, it's really hard to play a touch screen, but I'm sure some people may find it enjoyable.

Osprey, I don't know if you are the creator of Miopocket but I thought you were. I figured you would have THE answer for me if you created it?? You answer everyone's answers so amazingly. I found a shell that worked for me TABS, and I know NOTHING ABOUT HACKS OR MODS. I am happy to look for myself but because its a technical question and Miopocket 4 Just Was Released I went to this string. So is Miopocket For OMNITECH 16878 I can't do a non SD installation due to lack of space. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVISE

mathwiz314,
Yes, I'm planning to update the Old Games Add-on for 4.0, but you all are throwing too many bugs at me for me to find the time :). As for Doom, yeah, I removed it with the intention of adding it to the Old Games Add-on, since it's 5MB large.

bsweeny,
I am, so to speak, but every device unlocks differently and I am not an expert on how to unlock every device that's out there. If you don't know how your particular device unlocks, it doesn't matter if the unlock is huge and complex like MioPocket or as simple as being just one file, like explorer.exe. In addition, Omnitechs appear to unlock differently than any other device that I'm familiar with, since they require you to mess with that NK.BIN file. That's all that I know about that. If you can figure out out how to unlock your Omnitech, say, with something simple like explorer.exe, then it'd be easy to adapt that to install MioPocket and I can help you with that, but I can't help until you do some research and testing on the model that you have.

alktoro,
Is your flash disk completely full (zero free space)? Installation needs only 1MB or so total and only a few KBs to create that folder. Is there anything on that disk that you can delete, say an MP3 or video?

thanks for the help. good news. its now managed to install as far as the configuring wallpaper set. then it says

Couldn't wirte value in HKCU\ControlPanel\Desktop\Wallpaper

Line 539 (\storage card\MioAutoRin\Scripts\unlock.mscr):
RegWriteString("HKCU","ControlPanel\Desktop","Wallpaper",Wallpaper)

But it is one hell of a leap from not even getting the install screen :D :D

You may need to comment out one of the calls, though, since, as I said, VolumeX.exe sometimes needs to be run twice, whereas VolumeCtrl.exe does not.

Osprey,
You could replace Volume.mscr contents with:
Call("KillMiniMenu")
RunWait(ProgramsFolder\"VolumeX.exe", "/n")
IniWrite(MioPocketINI, "Apps", "Volume", Volume() * 2)
This is using the /n switch of VolumeX.exe that seems to just run the gui without any tasktray icon. (There is also another switch /e that seems to be doing the same thing...). I've also removed the line that was setting the volume to what's been saved in MioPocket.ini. IMO, it is not needed. Also note that I am storing twice the value of the volume since this is needed at least on the Device Emulator.

May I also suggest changing the type of the volume icon in iPT to Volume from Normal?

bluepink,
Try the Unlock.mscr that I posted on (I think) the last page.

I'm happy that the old MortScript.exe works for you, but you're going to have some problems here and there, since I'm using commands for the new MortScript.exe in some of my scripts. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. This is a big headache. My I could use the old MortScript.exe for installation and the new one post-installation. That's assuming that the new one even works post-installation. Perhaps one of you, once you get MioPocket installed and everything (or most things) work, could try replacing all three copies in MioPocket again with the new MortScript.exe, then play with things and see if everything still works.

TroNik,
1. Oh, nice. I wasn't aware of any command line options for VolumeX.exe. Thanks. That really makes the program behave differently (ex. not staying in memory when de-focused and closing itself when run a second time), making most of the code that I used (and hated) no longer necessary, as your replacement lines prove. Thanks.
2. You're probably right that reading the volume is not needed, because it's being read at startup.
3. Oh, good point. I forgot about the Volume icon type. Thanks.
4. Do you have any ideas about the MortScript problem that jacko5, bluepink and others are having? It seems like a bug in MortScript (not the first that I've encountered), but I'd really like to find a workaround that's not drastic (since I'm using the new commands here and there).
EDIT: 5. Doubling the volume number really does double the volume on actual devices, so that needs to be removed. Otherwise, your lines work great.

Osprey,
4. It seems there is a bug with MortScript's interpreter. What if you put If(TRUE) EndIf around the Exit command? Or perhaps create a subroutine that calls exit?
6. It seems you forgot to remove the PreferedDevice and DeviceName in GAPI.reg.

Osprey, Im SORRY!!! I did not know it was that complicated!!! Sorry for the assumption! Forgive me. Im BRIAN, I should have said I HAVE THE omnitech 16878 unlocked!!! I went to a topic days ago about unlocking the gps and downloaded the missing windows files like explorer.exe and the Corrected NK.bin to allow the gps to boot to windows!! so technically its unlocked!! I HAVE THE Miopocket 3 media and Miopocketauto? files on the gps so maby I just have to remove tabs and unload the files contents to the SD root directory??? I think I made the mistake of just putting the unzipped files and not unloading them to the root SD directory right? is there going to be a fix free version of Miopocket 4 so we don't have to go through and
make the corrections as stated by other members?? ALSO!!! please I dont want to download a bad copy of Igo8 please send me the link for a virus free working one if you know?? Please send and thank YOU

Ah so, I'll give it a go tonight for SDFree install.
Just a suggestion,You might want to rewrite on SDFree installation procedure on the Readme file. It's still suggest to find the required files in the SDFree Folder.

And one more thing. Apparently my Moov is unable to execute the Media Player. So I have to copy the old Media Player from MioPocket 3.0. I don't know whether it's a bug on MioPocket or my Moov.

TroNik,
1. Perhaps. You think that the bug is with the Exit command? That would stink, since I use that quite a bit. It also stinks because it's something that I can't test, as that version of MortScript works fine on my device. I've made a version of MioAutoRun.mscr with an exit subroutine for others to test, though, below.
2. I removed them from gx_hpc.ini, but you're right; I forgot to remove them from GAPI.reg. Thanks for pointing that out.

Anyone with the MioAutoRun/MortScript problem,
Please try replacing your MioAutoRun.mscr with the following: [EDIT: Please download the latest release, which includes this update and all others]
I went through and changed all Exit commands, per TroNik's idea. Please let me know if that erases the problem. Thanks.

bsweeny,
1. If your device is already unlocked, simply copy the MioAutoRun and Media files to the root of your SD card, along with MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe, then run MioAutoRun.exe.
2. I'm preparing to re-upload R60 exactly for that reason, yes.
3. The forum rules here don't permit asking for commercial software.

e-one,
1. Oh, thanks. I must've missed that in the Readme.
2. Does the Media Player crash with a "fatal error" and tell you about "crash.txt" when you load it? Did GAPI ask you to choose a device or had you already configured itfrom the icon on the Settings page? Are you sure that you chose the Mio Moov 500 definition from the list?

2. OK let me explained more on this issue. Let start from the facts that I can recall when it happened. My Moov 500 was on the following state:
a. Iphone Skin
b. I have set up the GAPI prior the Media Player execution. I have choose the Moov 500 device and GAPI set up stated the successful set up for Moov 500

When I click the Media Player button on Favorite Page, the screen is faded back, gone black for few seconds, and then back to the Favorite Page again. Nothing happened. Not even a warning window. I didn't even see the usual GAPI splash screen.

When I replace the current Media Player folder from version 3.0 R58, it worked just fine.

3. New issue. MP setting.
Just found out that I have to press the MP setting button twice to get to the setting page. The setting worked fine. But I have to click the MP setting again and again if I was redirected to another setting page (ie. General, Skin, System, etc). Maybe the animation caused this? will try later with animation off.

As I saw somewhere a script solution made by you to start cleanup via Mouseklick, would you please be so kind and share with me?
Thanks!

those Medion device specific facts I recently brought to light in the MioPocket >> tips & tricks thread. Don't know why my concerns weren't read carefully / my suggestions weren't overtaken. Owners of Medion devices are warned to currently run "DeviceSettings" (DeviceMenu.mscr).

Ok, that's good. Now (in addition to my earlier instructions), copy the older MortScript.exe over the one in MioAutoRun\Scripts and the one in MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript."

Osprey,
Many thanks for your continued help.
I have done all the above and the newer mioaotorun.mscr file and it now starts to install.
It stops though when it gets to installing SKIN with this error,

Sub "SetMiniBar" not found
Line 588 (\sdmcc)MioAutoRun\Scripts\Unlock.mscr):
Call("SetMiniBar")

Regards Jacko5.

Edit...
PS I have used the new unblock.mcsr .. and still get the error above.

NRT,
Is your icon pointed to MioAutoRun\Scripts\TomTomLauncher.mscr? I don't mean the path in MioPocket.ini or MioPocket Settings. Tap and hold on the icon, choose Edit Icon, then check the Execute field. If it's not set to that, set it to that. If it is set to that, well, try setting it directly to \Storage Card\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe. If that doesn't help, try disabling the "Launch animation" checkbox that is on the same Edit Icons dialog.

e-one,
1. Oh, interesting. There might be an error that's being suppressed. Open up MioAutoRun.mscr and put a # sign in front of the first line, the ErrorLevel line. If there's no error, try removing the launch animation on the Media Player icon by tapping and holdind on it, choosing Edit Icons and unchecking the checkbox at the bottom.

bumbum,
Ah, so Medion devices have a \Windows\MainShell.exe? The script is executing the code meant for Mios, then, since that's the Mio's device menu. The Medion-specific code that I added in this release is after that, so it's not being executed like it should. I just moved it to before. To duplicate that, yourself, open DeviceMenu.mscr, find the Medion code in the middle of the file and move it near the top.

jacko5,
That's really bizarre. Does SkinChanger.mscr exist in the Scripts folder?

jacko5,
I was mistaken. It's SkinChanger.mscr that it's not reading. That should be in the Scripts folder, too, though, but check, anyways.

Let me understand your current state... you copied the old MortScript.exe (that I uploaded earlier) over the one where MioAutoRun.exe is, in the MioAutoRun\Scripts folder and in MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript\--all three locations--is that right? If so, then try copying the 4.0 one back to all three locations, since the old one isn't working here, and since the point of my re-uploading MioAutoRun.mscr for you is that I applied a workaround for the original error.

@bumbum and all Medion owners

as Osprey suggested, in script-file "DeviceMenu.mscr" move this piece of code

#If a Medion device...
If(not RegKeyExists("HKLM", "GoPal"))
	Call("MedionMenu")
	Exit
EndIf

to the very top of this script and - this is very important - replace

If(not RegKeyExists("HKLM", "GoPal"))

by

If(RegKeyExists("HKLM", "GoPal"))

otherwise "Sub MedionMenu" never will be executed!!!

I am off to work soon, so i will check back later tonight.

Osprey is working hard for us, i am sure a solution will be found soon, thanks Osprey.

TroNik,
Actually, I just did send a message to Mort 10 seconds ago. I'm not holding out much hope, though, since the current beta is from last October and he stopped posting on his own forum around March or so. BTW, it's not just CE6, as I've gotten some of the same errors as these guys with my CE5 machine. I was just able to work around them by changing up my code, but the problem seems to magnified on these guys' devices to the point where it can't be worked around anymore. You're probably right that CE6 is what the common denominator is with jacko5, bluepink and others, since they've mentioned their devices being chinese.

Thanks for the emulator images. I'll try them out, though I'm not sure if there's anything that I can do. It's not practical for me to rewrite code to remove calls to subroutines that are inside If structures, as you might imagine, since they're everywhere in MioPocket and basic to good coding. The other side of the coin is that R60 uses some of the new functions since v4.2 of MortScript. Right now, I'm kind of down to just hoping that I can determine the earliest 4.3 beta that I can use and still have all commands in MioPocket work and that that beta doesn't have the same problem that b15 has. If I can duplicate the problem in the emulator, that'll help.

Is there anyway of running miopocket without an installation? when i first started [playing about with it i managed to get the cool sliding bar thingy working and some on the icons such as control panle and the battery ect ect. but obviously cause it wasnt linked to any scritps or anything none of the other icons worked. it was literally just the skin.

also im interested in this emulator you have mentioned. is it somthing that i could use? where would i get it? whats it called? just thought instead of buggin you all the time i could have a fidlle hear and there. pluss it would make me feel abit better about constantly plugin and unplugin the usb cable.

once again many thanks for your help.

I did remove MP incl. the init-file, manually removed everything
MP-related on the SD-card. re-installed R60. On the first install
there is no menu to choose from, it just installs. After a soft-reset
I get the menu to choose from, reinstall MP - works as expected.

Then testing MP just to find out that the icon-system works fine,
scrolling and everything, but pressing an icon, I either get the message
as described in my previous note or the screen goes black and then
the icons return.

To summarize, after installation nothing works and I don't know
what to do other than revert back to R59.

Suggestions?

I changed DeviceMenu.mscr accordingly and now the cleanup menu shows up. So far so good, but I am not sure, if this is what Device Menu in Miopocket is meant to be. I believe Osprey means with "Device Menu" the devices original Mainshell, in case of GoPal Software
\My Flash Disk\navigation\menu\shell.exe?

However jwoegerbauer, I misused your script to get my activesync working

#start an instance of ST.exe
Run("\Windows\ST.exe")
#ST has no window name
While(NOT ProcExists("ST.exe"))
Sleep 2000
EndWhile
hwnd=ActiveWindow()
#simulate clicking on "o" in term GoPal to get CLEANUP opened
MouseClick(hwnd, 325, 138)
Sleep 250
#done for now
Exit

#kill all instances of ST.exe
While(ProcExists("replog.exe"))
Kill("ST.exe")
Sleep 500
EndWhile

Seems the script works until the MouseClick. Could you please have a look what could be wrong?

Edit:

I made the script more simple and now it works at the end of StartupPrograms.mscr. At least not nice to see it after start of iPhoneToday. So if somebody had an idea to perform it faster.....

Run("\Windows\ST.exe")
Sleep(1250)
#simulate clicking on "o" in term GoPal to get CLEANUP opened
MouseClick(325,138)
Sleep(250)
#kill all instances of ST.exe
Kill("ST.exe")

Osprey,
1. After many hours of debugging I think I fixed MortScript's bug.
http://rapidshare.com/files/410549693/MortScript.exe
2. You should move the lines that create the MioAutoRun\Backup in MioAutoRun.mscr after the check whether the directory MioAutoRun exists.

Thank you for everything you shared here. I am interested to know, before I buy my GPS device, if MioPocket 4.0 will work with no problems on WinCe 5.0 Core? I understood that the Core version lacks some DLLs, is that a problem to running MioPocket on it? Thanks.

Hello... back from travel, seen the new MioPocket 4... wow... let's test it, as the 3 was unable to install.

In short: whereas the MP 3 tried to setup but didn't worked (it disabled the USB functionality, even editing the setup, it failed as-is, see 3.0 posts; later didn't boot up), the MP 4 doesn't try to setup. Done both renamings, still no luck. Updated with the new scripts Osprey submitted, still no luck.

When I have time I'll take a look to see how can my Navigon 1410 work (internal memory + Optional SD) - I just need to select original navigation / Any other GPS app who let me go to mountain (no streets - no navigon map)

Anyway, thanks for the good job

Dear Osprey,

Thanks for your sharing.

I have installed this into my Sanyo 4370, and found that the GPS portion of TomTom cannot be run.
Have reset it with the MP setting, but it still cannot be showed up.
The TT works on the old version (miopocket 3.0 R 59).
Is there any step I need to change it ?

Thanks for your help.

By god i think he has almost cracked it. i dont know if the new mortscript.exe that TroNik posted was ment for it to work on windows ce 6. but u have nearly solved my problem. i can now see the slidy bar screen thingy but there is one more error. i was gonna take a screen shot for easyness. but i cant find a screenshot app on there so the error is

couldnt write '\Storage card\mioautorun\backup\startuplog.txt'

line 289 (\storage card\mioautorun\scripts\initialize.mscr):
writefile (startuplogfile, "initilize.scr: running autorunmgr.exe...^NL^",TRUE)

and is there a way of hiding the taskbar?

i really do apreciate every bit of help there is

Osprey (et al), great job on the new release. Just downloaded last night and installation via SD card on Mio C520 went fine. Only issue I've noticed so far is the TomTom launch failure (just like NRT described). I checked, and the icon is pointing to \Storage Card\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe. I can launch it from explorer just fine. I will try repointing the icon to MioAutoRun\Scripts\TomTomLauncher.mscr and see if that works. I will let you know.

Again. Great job!!

Klick the date Button in the Bottom bar and adjust your time zone. This setting should be automatically stored, when the backup runs every 10 minutes.

When I click the Media Player button on Favorite Page, the screen is faded back, gone black for few seconds, and then back to the Favorite Page again. Nothing happened. Not even a warning window. I didn't even see the usual GAPI splash screen

e-one,
1. Oh, interesting. There might be an error that's being suppressed. Open up MioAutoRun.mscr and put a # sign in front of the first line, the ErrorLevel line. If there's no error, try removing the launch animation on the Media Player icon by tapping and holdind on it, choosing Edit Icons and unchecking the checkbox at the bottom

Having the exact same problem as e-one with media player
Have added # to front of error level line and unchecked launch animation checkbox

dadoozg,
Download the new MortScript.exe by Tronik.
Put in onto the root of your SD card .. or Flashdrive
Also add it to MioAutoRun/Programs/Mortscript folder
Also add it to MioAutoRun/Scripts folder
Then download the new Mioautorun.mscr ( put it on the root of your SD card or Flashdrive )that Osprey put for download on an earlier post on this thread.
Hope all goes well for you.
Regards Jacko.

Edit,
I have changed the second statement above ...

It should minimize your nav app and takes up less screen space than the MiniBar. Even if you can't see it in the nav app, try pressing the very upper-right corner and it should work. If not, I can still help you get the MiniBar back, but I think that you'll be happier with the triangle.

i sorry but yes. I see exactly what you talking about, i got the "warning" at the 1st star, but they don't work correctly. When i "clic 1 time" i see the blue corner convert to a bit full, wait a time and nothing happend. I try to "clic" 2 times and wait again, 2 - 3 min. nothing again. They work only one time, i got to "scratch" near that bleu corner 5 time then they change but they go in the Microsoft Ce module not in the iPhoneToday module. I got to clik on the iboot script wait for the loading, and i got it. After all, if i want to go again in my main GPS prog Magellan. Now the Minibar was loaded in the corner and i can use it correctly.

That is the reason what i want to load the minibar, or they have a option they can be always there.

Btw i got a other prob, in the office section, when i thry the "Agenda" i got a popup box. With this error "Debug 4" i clic ok, then i got " Can't initializa POOM (pocket outlook object Model" i clik ok and the prog quit.

and...

I got aloways a prob with my USB port. I got to plus my GPS alone with no Sd Card inside, windows Xp Sp3 fouds it like a Fash ROM USB device and SDMMC USB device, if i look up the pilot its C:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys and C:\windows\system32\drivers\PartMgr.sys for both of them. If i put on the SD card now with the MioPocket 4 r60, windows don't not found it at all, not with the ActiveSync and not with the MASS Storage option. MioPocket work good but i can't see it windows. But can recharge my GPS:) If i like to copy a file, i got to, turn gps off, get off the SDcard, plug it again in windows, open the GPS (no SD). For me it a bit long...

Anyone,

Is there a way to set the clock to 12 Hour format? There used to be an option in MPSetting for 12 hour format, but that has been gone since R57.

Osprey,

Great Job with MioPocket 4.0 R60. Works great on my Mio c320. Also works well with the Nextar ME.
I did find one 'error' on the c320 that has not been reported yet. When trying to set keyboard, I get an error.. 'Endif without If. line 491 MioAutoRun\Skin\iPhoneToday\..\..\Scripts\IconManger.mscr'

Go the "Settings" tab.
Then click on "Skin Options" (not "Skin Changer", the icons are the same).
Switch to the "Special icons" tab.
Open the drop down box and select "Clock".
A checkbox at the bottom will show up that says "12 hour format"; make sure it is checked.
Click ok on the dialog and save the settings when prompted.

Hope this helps.

bluepink,
1. Yes, you can run MioPocket without installation, but a lot of apps won't work because they'll be missing DLLs. The biggest thing about installation is that it adds to CE's SystemPath string the paths to MioPocket's DLLs, and a soft reset is required once that's done in order for the change to take effect. If you want to do it anyways, run MioAutoRun\Scripts\Initialize.exe.
2. It's just Microsoft's CE emulator for Windows, so that you can test without having an actual device. If that's what you'd like, TroNik's post with links is HERE. I don't think that there's any harm in plugging and unplugging the USB cable, though. I've done it thousands of times with my device in the last 2.5 years (far more than anyone else is likely to, including you) and no problems here.

bumbum,
It seemed backwards to me, too, but that's what jwoegerbauer's instructions were, so I just followed them. Does \My Flash Disk\navigation\menu\shell.exe really run your device's main shell? If so, it does sound to me that that should be what Device Menu runs and the cleanup menu should be moved to Device Settings. Let me know if you agree.

TroNik,
That's awesome. Great job and thanks a lot. That really lifts a burden. Here's hoping that means no more problems of this sort for everyone with these problems.

aprice01 and NRT,
Try going through MioAutoRun\Scripts\TomTomLauncher.mscr and adding # signs in front of some of them. Don't touch the first few lines and don't touch the line that calls AppLauncher.mscr (which launches TomTom). If any of the lines that you commented out were the problem, let me know.

dzzpapi,
Go into MP Settings (from the Settings page), then the "System" sub-menu and choose "Set Timezone."

flickflack, e-one and Carpenter940,
Try downloading the version of MortScript.exe that TroNik uploaded and copying it to MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript\. See if that solves the problem. If not, running MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player\player.exe works, right?

jacko5, dadoozg,
Just to correct, MortScript.exe should be copied to the MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript folder, not to MioAutoRun\Programs.

rauva,
1. Thanks for the feedback.
2. Open up MioAutoRun\Scripts\ShellClose.mscr and put a # sign in front of the Kill("MiniBar.exe") line. That should do it.
3. I've seen that "Debug 4" error before and I think that it has to do with the databases (Agenda, like a few other apps, use CE's databases). Try importing MioAutoRun\Registry\CE5\Exclude\POOM.reg and running MioAutoRun\Programs\TroNik\CeCreateDatabase_POOM.exe.

macrane,
Odd, since IconManager.mscr is exclusively for the older, SystemInformation shell, and I'm assuming that you're using the newer, iPhoneToday shell. Also, I don't see anything wrong at that location in the file, so it may be MortScript. Try replacing MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript\MortScript.exe with the one that TroNik uploaded last page and see if that solves it.

mathwiz314,
Thanks. I wasn't aware that that option was available from Skin Options and was going to give instructions for editing the settings.xml directly.

The 1st time the prog. try to load but recame at the Microsoft Ce module, and if i clik and other time now the script run correctly. If i want to change from my GPS prog to re-go in MioPocket i got to use the Hide/Show Button. It's normal ?

rauva,
2. Yes, that's normal. Use the "Hide/Show Windows." That's the "minimize" button.
3. From a file manager, double-click on MioAutoRun\Registry\Exclude\POOM.reg and choose YES. Then, double-click on MioAutoRun\Programs\TroNik\CeCreateDatabase_POOM.exe.
4. If you haven't yet, soft reset after switching between ActiveSync and Mass Storage, since some devices need that. If that doesn't help, choose the "Reset settings to defaults" option from the USB menu and soft reset. If you still can't get the USB to work, then I don't know. When you have the defaults set, it ought to connect the same as it did before installing MioPocket.

Hi,

SoIndyLlama, Osprey and Janne. I have the same problem with Mio DigiWalker C710.
Installation and startup totaly OK. However, no icon works. actually it looks like it's just minimizing the screen on click. if you click on some icon and click again in one second, you get the screen back and nothing happens. If you wait, the screen returns alone after some time.
Lot of icons shows also that the destination file is missing.

nothing works :(
I installed the system 3.0 on Mio Moov quite higl model and there everything was totaly ok :(

please check. something is wrong there...

thanks a lot
also for the system. IT'S GREAAAAAAT :)

Hi All
I'm a newbie to this topic, I have been trying to load MioPocket 4 onto my somewhat old MIO 269 which has served me well for many years.

I carefully followed the SD Card Installation Instructions set out in the ReadMe file, copying the MioAutoRun and Media folders into the root directory and also MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and Mortscript.exe into the root also. I then followed the further instructions detailed for the 269.

The GPS simply started loading the version 2 maps from the hard drive.
I tried this a number with the same result.

I then followed the further advice re changing the names of .exe and .mscr files and had the same result.

Anyone got any ideas about why this should be the case.

Thanks

Mountararat.

Sorry i have not had that error.
I made a mistake in the first post.
As Osprey has corrected, the second statement should be,
Put the new mortscript in:

Hope that sorts your problem out.
Thanks for correcting Osprey.

Try this: identify an icon that doesn't work, tap and hold on it, choose Edit Icons, press the "..." button next to the Execute field, then browse for and select the app (which'll be somewhere in the MioAutoRun\Programs folder). For example, if the "TRE Regedit" icon on the Tools page is one that doesn't work, change the path to \<drive>\MioAutoRun\Programs\Regedit.exe and save changes. If the icon now works, then we know what the problem was. In that case, open up your MioAutoRun\Skin\iPhoneToday\icons.xml and replace all "..\.." with "\<drive>\MioAutoRun" (without quotes and substituting "<drive>" for your installation drive name... ex "\Storage Card\MioAutoRun"). Instead of doing it manually, use the Replace command in your text editor.

EDIT: FYI, a much better and easier workaround than installing an older release would've simply been to go into the Skin Changer and press the Old Skins button.

Mountararat,
So, to be sure, you followed the instructions about the "Volume Up and Flag/Set buttons" (and did you try multiple times, since it sounds like timing is important?) and then renamed MioAutoRun.exe to Oscar100DM.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr to Oscar100DM.mscr and tried the same thing over again? If so, there's not much that I can add because that's all that I know about the 269, unfortunately. It might help to find some discussion specific to the 269. Try putting "269 MioPocket" into the search at the top of the page, and, if that doesn't help, "269 Unlock". Good luck.

jwoegerbauer,
I saw your post before you deleted it. Did you delete it because you changed your mind? Should I still leave it as it is? If not, should I do what bumbum implied and set Device Menu to shell.exe and move the "cleanup menu" to Device Settings?

@Osprey, here the re-post: I only wanted to be absolutely sure and looked in the meanwhile into "shell.exe" with a hex-editor. I (fortunately) didn't have to change my mind.

Regarding Medion devices: let things be as they are. "shell.exe" (bumbum is speaking of) is nothing but a launcher for mnavdce.exe (the navigation software itself), it's main task is to take care that enough Program Menory is present - i.e. "shell.exe" uses SetMemoryDivision API to achieve that. In principle the same, as with Unlock.mscr happens => shrinking the Storage Memory to absolute minimum. Result: Medion devices don't have a sophisticated menue you can steer device (CE) settings, you must do this via control panel - or MioPocket.

Sorry for your confusion.

@bumbum,
concerning Medion devices, the so called "device settings", i.e. settings that affect the Medion navigation software - as those are volume, backlight, day/night appearance schemes, powermanagement, etc - you find here: [HKCU, Software\Elektrobit\streetdirector]. These settings only are reachable / changeable from within the navigation software itself, any changes made there do not influence CE's (default / changed) settings. HTH

@Osprey, jwoegerbauer

I am sorry cause I neither want to create confusion, nor anger. I was only asking the question, if the medion cleanup menu is that what Osprey meant with this sentence

quote:
#This script brings the original menu to the foreground if it's running or runs it if it's not

Honestly speaking, for me it is fine anyway it is, cause I don't use Gopal Software, I only misuse it to get 100% backlight and USB, Bluetooth etc. Therefore I will describe, without commenting what should be or not be, the startup procedure of this Medion device, leaving out for this case unimportant stuff and based on devices original condition (Without Miopocket), so Osprey can decide himself what is best.

Hardreset==>HKLM\init ==> ST.exe

This creates the orange Medion Gopal welcome screen, where you can click into the "o" of Gopal and a small Menu pops up==>the clean up Menu (Factory Reset, Format Flash, GPS Factory Reset etc.)

this possibility you still have under Miopocket.
If you don't click starting procedure goes on.

==> \My Flash Disk\Menu.exe
this is only a starter and is starting

==>\My Flash Disk\navigation\Menu\shell.exe

==> depending on Hardware shell.exe is then starting

==> \My Flash Disk\navigation\ssp.exe
\My Flash Disk\Navigation\ssp_so.exe
\My Flash Disk\Navigation\mnavdce.exe

Well, as not using GoPal, I do not really know what difference it makes to start mnavdce.exe (navigation) directly. In any case ssp.exe and ssp_so.exe are not started then and you will sometimes be asked to input all your settings for backlight, volume etc. etc.

Just as an example how I get 100% backlight.

Run("\My Flash Disk\navigation-old\Menu\shell.exe")
While(not ProcExists("mnavdce.exe"))
Sleep(250)
EndWhile
#Kill("shell.exe")
Kill("mnavdce.exe")
Kill("ssp.exe")
Kill("ssp_so.exe")

flickflack, e-one and Carpenter940,
Try downloading the version of MortScript.exe that TroNik uploaded and copying it to MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript\. See if that solves the problem. If not, running MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player\player.exe works, right?

Osprey
S503D+S703D
Downloaded Tronik's mortscript copied to MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player\Mortscript no change
went to programs \mediaplayer and clicked on mediaplayer.exe media player did not load, replaced media player folder completly clicked on mediaplayer.exe would not load
replaced Scipts\Mediaplayer.mscr no change
S200
Compiled files from Miopocket 4 which are the same files as used on S50 and S70 above created folder Mermaid _455 added files to SD card
when s200 powered on with sd card inserted it go's straight to native navman software.
eject sd card reinsert Sd card Miopocket starts everthing runs perfectly including Media player
Idiots question whats the difference between Mortscript within device folder and mortscript withing MioAutoRun\Programs\mortscript\

I've tried a few things:
1. I did reformat the SD-Card just to make sure there were no errors
2. I changed the paths in icons.xml as per your recent reply
3. I tried mortscript.exe from R59 and also Tronik, in both cases
the C710 wouldn't even start
4. With mortscript from R60 aand the changed paths I either get
- "Script \Storage Card\MioAutoRun\Scripts\MioMapLauncher.mscr\ not found.
Waiting for existence (Storage card not initialized?) 5 sec wait, then
nothing, message issued by Mortscript. This occurs for all entries in
icons.xml
- for filemance and all other programs same message as before
5. I'm inclined to believe that for som reason MP will not, cannot access
the SD Card. I don't know how and where it can be fixed.

Dear MP Team,

Haven't tried the Mortscript replacement yet for the Media Player issue. But tried the SDFree Install on my Taiwanese Moov 500. Install seems OK. However when setting up time zone (mine currently on GMT +7) the Miopocket freeze when I click OK on time zone window. All buttons stop responding. So I have to hard reset my Moov. Any Idea why?

Now temporary back to SDInstall.

flickflack,
1. Just to be sure, you copied MortScript.exe to MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript, not to MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player\MortScript, like you wrote, right?
2. Interesting. So, player.exe didn't run (not even with an error?) when you double-clicked on it? If so, that tells us that the problem is with that program, not with the MediaPlayer.mscr script and not with MortScript. Something to try is to go into the registry (Settings page, TRE Regedit) and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TCPMP key. If that doesn't work, it'd be helpful to know if the MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player from R59 works for you.
3. To answer your question, there's no difference between the two MortScript.exe copies except that the one outside the MioAutoRun folder is used for installation and the one under MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript is used once MioPocket is installed. That's because it's easier to predict the latter's location (just determine the drive and you have it), while the former's location is less predictable.

Janne,
5. The way that you describe it in #4, that sounds plausible. Did you ever have MioPocket installed before R60? Something to try is to move MioAutoRun\Registry\SDHC.reg to the Exclude sub-folder, delete MioAutoRun\Registry\Custom\RegistryBackup.reg (since it'll contain the settings from SDHC.reg), then hard reset and re-install MioPocket. It's possible that those SDHC registry settings could be messing with your card, but they've been in MioPocket for a while, so it's probably not it if R59 worked for you, but try, anyways.

rauva,
4. R60 is the first release that doesn't force any USB settings on you. After you install MioPocket, your device ought to connect the same way that it did before installation. That's why I don't understand why it doesn't work for you, unless it doesn't work without MioPocket installed, too, in which case the issue is with the device, not MioPocket.

e-one,
Are you using the "Set Timezone" option in MioPocket Settings or setting it by simply clicking on the calendar icon?

I've been using MP since R30 something. R59 worked beautifully
for me, and I can always go back. However, I'd like very much
to have R60 up and running.

I tried what you suggested but no change. Previously I had the problem
with a too slow SD-card, and thanks to STE I upgraded to a SanDisk Ultra II
with a speed of 15MB/s, so I don't think the cardspeed is a problem

Janne,
Something to try is the old shell in R60. Since none of the icons on the new shell work for you, you'll have to do it manually. Open up MioPocket.ini, scroll down to the [Skin] section and set Shell=SystemInformation and Skin=Windows7Ultimate320x240, then open MioAutoRun\Skin\SystemInformation\SysInfoSettings.ini and add "320x240" after every "Ultimate" (like in the Skin= line that you just did in MioPocket.ini) and soft reset the device. If that works, then it suggests that the issue has to do with the new shell. If you still have problems, then it's something else.

Osprey,
Initial page was from MioPocket Settings. But since my timezone was not on the list, I choose the last line. Then the "control panel-like" timezone setting page pop-up. After choosing the right timezone and then click OK on the top right corner, everything freeze. And I have to hard reset, and my chosen timezone was not saved. Any Idea?

Yes sorry copied it into MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript
The reason I ask is would you replace both MioAutoRun\Programs\MortScript and the one outside with Tronik's version.
what I find strange is that I am using the same Miopocket 4 installation files for all 3 Devices
the s50 and s70 fail with media player but the s200 works with mediaplayer
will try to edit the registry as suggested and also try the version out of R59

I've also tried a few things today.
I completely deleted the MioAutoRun folder from the Resident Flash (which I forgot to do on the install).
I completely cleared the SD card and reinstalled R60. I tried reinstalling R59.
I received the same errors on all three from X.mscr: "Cannot find X (or one of it's components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available."

Very frustrating that I can't apparently return to MP 3.0 either.

I'm on a Nextar Q4 if that's a clue.

UPDATE: I got into explorer and ran RESTART.EXE and managed to get MP 3.0 to work. I'm afraid to try this with MP 4.0. Do you think it might work with that?

USB/Windows/Miopocket 4r60 with a Magellan 1470

i try it again. so I format my SDcard put the Miopocket 4r60 inside, change up for the right boot setup. (For me it iboot.exe) For this last try i use the new mortscript.exe and the new Mioautorun.mscr (why not). So you tell me the USB fonction was supose to found it like before i put the Miopocket was on the sdcard. After the 1st start i look up the - setting section - then i clik on the usb icon. Wait, clik ok for mass storage, make a soft reset. Not again. I try to change it for ActiveSync and its a no again, Sorry. But i have a question for you. It was normal if i look in - setting menu - control panel - pc connection - the "allow connection with desktop..." was not in fonction ? And at the same place it is normal to see the usb typed like this - ''USB' ? with the 3 little '

i got a other questions

i think i was me the prob... let see the 1st time i plug the GPS with the mipocket inside a pup up menu came and the ask me for - Display off - stanby - soft reset - hard - shutdown - lock screen - close miopocket.

Ok now i do what ? i took windows found it now ? Maybe i do the rong thing usualy a choose "cancel" a this point. There is my error ?

....humm if i lookup in the \miopocket\registry\exclude all the USB*.reg was there its was nornal ?

As I have the same problem as flickflack I will answer what I have encountered.

I ran player.exe directly and my device acted as if nothing was run at all. I then ran MediaPlayer.mscr directly and I got the error again. (Window 'TCPMP' could not be found.

Line 117 (Storage card\mioautorun\skin\iphonetoday\..\..\scripts\mediaplayer.mscr):waitfor("TCMPC",10)
) So I do think the problem is with MediaPlayer.mscr script or MortScript.

The good news is I copied the mediaplayer.mscr and the Media player folder from R59 build to my device and it worked.

I did as suggested and got the "old" shell.
Essentially, it is the same problem as before,
meaning that icons with a direct ref. like filemance now
seem to work, but everything else is screwed up. On startup I get the old shell but as soon as I try to execute anything, the minibar disappears, error messages (some I only see for only a few seconds) indicate that
there is a problem accessing the SD-card. In some cases error messages are stacked and the C710 freezes resulting in a soft reset.
So, what I've done is hard-reset the C710, removing everything related to MP on the SD-card and reinstalling MP R59. R59 is now up and running as nicely as it used to do, and for now I'm happy with that.
As for R60, what I've seen so far, it's a marvellous release but I can't say what and where, but I still think there is a major problem in handling the SD-card.

Anyone,
How do you feel about replacing the default click sound with this one? To use, right-click on the link to save, then use the "On Launch" tab in Skin Options to set it.

e-one,
I don't know. Can you do what an earlier poster said and set it via the Calendar icon?

flickflack,
Another thing for you to try with the R60 version is to run EXE Check (from the Tools page), select MioAutoRun\Programs\Media Player\player.exe, choose the "Set lib name" button, then change "COREDLL.DLL" to "COREDL2.DLL" and try Media Player over again. It probably won't work, but it's something else to try. Let me know about that and about deleting the registry key (but test between them, don't do both and then test).

SoIndyLlama,
1. I don't know why scripts wouldn't be registered like that, but you can run MortScript.exe directly to re-register them. They ought to work after that.
2. Restart.exe just soft resets the device, I believe. No, it's not harmful at all. You want the device to soft reset after installation. Has the device never soft reset after installation? That could be your problem. Make sure that ResetAfterInstall is set to 1 in MioPocket.ini. If that doesn't force a soft reset after installation, then just do one manually.

colsub,
Pop out your SD card and hard reset the device (hold the power switch in the Reset position for up to 10 seconds) to get it back to normal. Next, tell us all of the steps that you took.

e-one, ivanfix,
I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying that you're going into MioPocket Settings ("MP Settings" icon) and need to press entries like "General" twice in order to enter the sub-menu? If so, are you saying that you need to press the OK button twice? If not, do you understand that it takes either a double-click or a single-click and choosing OK (so, two clicks either way) to enter a sub-menu?

rauva,
1. You didn't say anything about trying USB before you clicked the USB icon and selected Mass Storage.
2. Yes, that sounds normal.
3. I don't have any idea why you're getting MioPocket's power menu when you connect your device to USB. That's not right.
4. Yes, it's normal for all USB*.reg files to be in the Exclude folder. When you select "ActiveSync" or "MassStorage" from the USB menu, the corresponding file is copied to the Registry folder and imported. If they're both still in Exclude after choosing the menu options, then something wrong and something for you to try is to import them manually by double-clicking on them in a file manager.

Carpenter940,
The fact that nothing happened when you ran player.exe directly says that the foremost problem is with the player, itself, not with MioPocket's script or MortScript. You can try the suggestions (deleting they HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TCPMP key and using EXE Check to change COREDLL.DLL to COREDL2.DLL) that I've given to flickflack. If they don't change anything, let me know. You could also try copying R59's player.exe over R60's... though that isn't likely to work (and if it doesn't, change it back, so that it doesn't ruin further tests).

Janne,
If apps like FileManCE worked, then that suggests that the SD card is fine. Also, because that's an icon that's linked directly to the executable, it suggests that MortScript is the problem (since every icon not linked directly to an executable is linked to a MortScript script). Did you ever try running MortScript.exe manually? Finally, if you don't have one, you might consider getting a second SD card so that you can test with R60 on one and leave R59 on the other, rather than having to constantly replace the contents on a single card.

dnikola,
1. Have you enabled ActiveSync in the USB Menu (icon on the Settings page) and soft reset? If so, have you tried Mass Storage?
2. When MioPocket installs, it adds itself to the startup apps. You can verify by looking at the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init key in the registry. You could also check that AutoLaunchMP is set in MioPocket.ini. Beyond that, it's my current understanding that such car dash units can't save settings when you power off the card, so you need to manually run MioPocket (usually by mapping the original software's navigation menu icon to it and pressing it) each time that you want it. Hopefully, another car dash unit can confirm or refute that.
3. If your unit is like most such car dash units (two completely separate OSes, one for running the device's original software and one for CE and the GPS app), you will need to use the device's original software for that.
4. Same as #3.

Osprey,

Thanks for the advice. I did several soft resets (and hard resets), but it didn't seem to pick up. I'll check the Miopocket.ini setting.

As for the Mortscript, should I run the one on the root of the SD card, or the one inside the Miopocket folder?

Dear Osprey,

Thank you very much.

Now I have two questions.
1)How can we activate the bluetooth, whatever I press the button, it shows that the bluetooth will terminate in few seconds.
2)Besides English and some other languages, can we add japenese, chinese or even korean languages into the miopocket. My device is Sanyo 4370.

Thanks

SoIndyLlama,
It doesn't matter.

dzzpapi,
1. All that I know about Bluetooth on Sanyos is what's in MioAutoRun\Scripts\Bluetooth.mscr (the script that the icon launches). You can take a look at the Sanyo section there and seeing if running the apps yourself does the trick.
2. You can add whichever languages you're willing to translate. There are instructions at the top of MioAutoRun\Scripts\MioPocketLanguage-English.mscr.

@Osprey,

tapping "IP Utilities" in Settings sub-menue opens the device manager as I'ld tap "Device manager".

@bumbum,

with full respect to your considerations in case of Medion devices, especially related to contents of MP's "Device Menu": if Osprey would follow your suggestion, installing MP 4.0 definitely (unrecoverably) bricks any Medion device, because ST.exe is removed in [HKLM, init]. John Sixpack doesn't know by default that he must start ST.exe from explorer, to reach Medion's inital device menu.

@dzzpapi,

in addition to Osprey's answer:

a)
To create one more (really missing???) language file, you - or somebody else - can do it by your/his/her own
1) take file MioPcketLanguages-English.mscr as the base, because this is the most complete one.
2) run each line there against Google-Translator or comparably tool.
In approximately 3 hours you will have completed the work. But you should be aware that a machine translated text never has the same correctness as the original one.

b)
If present in MioPocket, chinese, japanese and vietnamese language files probably additionally need the presence of a special CE fareast-fontfamily, called simsun.ttc, to be displayed correctly. This TTC-file is of size ~10 MB.

4. Same as #3.
