The new version is out for "lifetime" subscribers and I am downloading it as we speak.
Comments, road tests of the new maps, etc. should go in this topic.

Just talked to Garmin support. There is a problem with the 2010.20 map update that affects all 37xx Nuvi models. The result is that no map update is available for these units today.
Garmin is working on a patch, which should be available in a day or so that will allow owners of the 37xx units to download the 2011.20 map update. |

Since the update a few minutes ago, I'm having some trouble on my 760 with pre-planned routes. I hit Go To and selected one and it never showed an ETA and many of the waypoint arrival times are blank in the route summary. Deleting the route and re-importing it fixed this, but good thing I didn't set out on a long trip without checking first.
UPDATE: It was only one route, so I'm wondering if the map update had anything to do with this. I had modified that route a few days ago and had not loaded it since then, so it may have been corrupted prior to the new map installation.

| Just conjecture here, but if you plan a route I assume this route information is stored outside of the map itself? If so, a "route", then, becomes the marriage of two objects: the map and the route information itself. A new map would naturally put the existing route in a "may or may not work" status in my view, because it is now out of sync with the map. |

I agree. Great minds think alike, apparently [g]. But each time you "Go To" a stored route, it recalcs, so that should take care of it unless the manual instructions in the route create impossible loops or other nonsense based on changes in the new maps. And if that were the case, the route would never work, I'd think, instead of working once I re-imported it. Food for thought.
I've now tried a few other pre-planned routes while driving around and they all take a while to display an ETA if you say "No" to the "Navigate to the beginning" question and if the route is a fair distance away.

It looks like they will now allow you to re-download the updates for a year. At least on my 1690's lifetime the expire date is 7/28/2011.

I just updated my Nuvi 750 without a hitch. However, it did NOT update my mapsource! I cannot even find the 2011.20 mapset on my Windows 7 PC. Anyone have any ideas on how to update my mapsource?

Dan - yea thats a good observation. I was thinking more granular though . consider that a route must be some set of pointers to or information about the map. it might even contain some information pulled from the map at save time. now replace the map and execute the old route against it - various individual pointers may or may not map to meaningful things in the new map, causing some things to work and others not.
now, what we need Garmin to do, is have the map update software scan our exising routes and rebuild them! |

bharritt: Looks like you need to hit the advanced tab when it shows up to add the computer. I just went through it again, and it looks like the default is device only. There is an option for computer only.

Thanks Ler! No thanks to Garmin on this one. Previously the update program updated both the GPS and Computer by default. Thank goodness I have a high speed connection, if I was on dialup, I would just kiss off the Mapsource update especially since the POI I complained about 2 years ago is still missing which means this POI is over 4 years out of date!

| I just updated my 1450T. all went smoothly but they still think a local road is two-way when it has been one-way for over a year ;-) |

You can also save the downloaded file and run it to update Mapsource
I just tried connecting to Garmin Lifetime mapupdate, it does not show 2011.20 only 2011.10 as available. Maybe the server is down.

Hi guys. Mac user here. I've successfully updated my nuvi 765T to 2011.20, but I seem to be having a slight issue with the new MapUpdate software.
Before, when the system simply used the Java applet to perform the download, I could specify where the .dmg file with the map would be placed. I like to save my map files for backup purposes.
I'm a bit concerned, because the MyGarmin page states that I only have today to get the new map file, but I can't for the life of me figure out where that file was downloaded to.
I am aware of the Advanced tab option of installing the map on your computer as well, but that's not what I am looking for. I am looking for the .dmg file with the freshly downloaded, not-yet-installed map. It took me 5 (yes FIVE) tries to get the new map loaded without the unit losing communication with my computer before it was done. I do not want to risk re-installing it on the unit in case the successfully installed map becomes corrupted. For some reason, the Mac version of the MapUpdate software doesn't give the option to install on the computer only.
Do any Mac users have any idea about this?
Cheers, Jeff |

@hpatlik:
Very odd -- it is missing from the summary on the maps page at myGarmin at this time, but when I check details on my 760, I see:
Product Key, Amazon, nuMaps Lifetime NA 2011.20 XXXXXXX
Expires: Jul 28, 2011

@JeffGoobs:
I'm with you - not liking the new setup for updates on Macs at all. The ugly graphics that now substitute for actual data transfer numbers are not useful and they've dumbed it down.
The only dmg that gets downloaded, as far as I can tell, is the one that unpacks to run the downloader.
A search on my MacBook for "2011" or "garmin" turns up my saved dmg from the April update and older ones, but that's it.
Two thoughts: why is your Mac losing communication with the GPS, and why not make a backup of the installed img file and keep that as a hedge against corruption?

@dleno...This is very true on the "marriage" between a route and Map. Long ago I installed new Maps on my SP2610 and did not take into consideration to recalculate the routes. The result was a disaster, got very very lost in SC on my way to FLA. Now I make sure I take all my routes in Mapsource and recalculate them , then transfer them over to my nuvi.
The latest method for installing the maps is pretty poor. There is no way to download the setup.exe and copy them over to my other computers. Need to hook up my Nuvi to each computer and do it that way. After a month the installation files disappeat from your profiles . Guess Garmin did not want us copying their programs.
