Hello everyone,
I just got a Magellan Maestro 4000 yesterday, and I'm less than impressed with the Nav application the factory put on the GPS... for some reason, the 'fasted route' that it chooses is about 25% longer than the route that my Garmin chooses (an hour longer for a 3.5 hr drive!) So this site has me inspired: http://www.janolepeek.com/hack-your-80-gps-system and now I'm trying to install a new navigation application on the Magellan Maestro 4000. I've searched the forums, hoping to find a clear write up of how to do this on a Maestro, but I've been unable to find one.
There seem to be a lot of nav applications out there that I could install. Many of them free: http://www.maps-gps-info.com/fgpfw.html#WindowsCE So I could use some advice on which one might be best for me. What I'm hoping to get is more functionality out of it (and make the AAA stuff go away). I like what I see of iGo8 here and on their website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgp1lnriwXA http://www.navngo.com/pages/global/eng/igo_8_ss_video
It looks like it has a lot more functions than what the factory app can do, but I'm interested in what other people might have installed on their Magellan GPS. It would also be very cool to have an application that could load topographical maps also for use when I'm hiking or driving in the back country, although I suspect that might be beyond the capabilities of my hardware. I'd like to be able to enter a LAT-LONG coordinates set as a destination for geocaching and such.
I started on this last night with the help of this website: http://biobug.org/had-mirror/gps/Magellan.htm
What I've done
So far I have installed softbutton into the \APP folder EXE Shadowing it so that it starts on boot up. I left the factory navigator application in \APP, renamed as factory_navigator.exe so that I can start it from softbutton.
I've also installed FileManCE.exe into \APP, and TCPMP0.81 onto \APPS\TCPMP0.81 on the 2 gb SD card (and discovered that a 4 gb SDHC card does not work for this model).. and I think that I'm going to move FileManCE to the SD card in a \APPS\FM folder.
Anyhow, like I mentioned, what applications would you recommend for use on this hardware and does anyone have any links to a staight forward write up of installing a new nav app into the device?
Regards,
Toyotero

I moved FileManCE and all of its FM_* files into a \APPS\FM folder on the SD card successfully. I think it's a cleaner set up this way.
Now to install a new Nav application... |

Thanks.
When I run SystemInformation32.exe, I get "error creating process". I'll have to play with it some... I think I might need to change some things in app\navi_Ice.ini maybe. |

seal77mania,
Do you have any more files that are used with these? There are a lot of links to other programs/files that I don't have. |

Thanks. I'll try it out.
I could view the menu that is in your first files on my desktop, and it looked really good. I'm looking forward to having the whole package installed.
Thanks a lot! |
