| Absolutely agree. It sounds good, but not likely to make significant routing changes for the majority of routes. |

There are a few statements that I find curious in Garmin's product information:
"With trafficTrends, your nüvi 3790T automatically learns daytime trends for traffic flow to improve your routes and better predict your estimated time of arrival based on time of day and day of week."
Why "daytime"? Does it stop working at sunset? I'm sure the traffic in Olathe is light in the evening, but in large urban areas the rush hour can go well past sunset. When I leave work at 11:00PM in Philadelphia sometimes, it is not unusual to hit traffic jams on major roads.
And I don't quite understand this either:
"With myTrends, when you save your regular destinations in your “Favorites,” your nüvi 3790T will, over time, begin to figure out where you’re going even without your telling it! It provides time of arrival and relevant traffic information."
So, even if I'm not navigating a route, will the Nuvi second guess where I'm heading and start being overly-helpful? I guess we will need to see this in action since the description is rather vague. But it sounds like there is potential for this to get annoying if it makes wrong assumptions about where you are going. |

Maybe trafficTrends works only for what is considered daytime traffic patterns, or what is considered highly repeatable traffic patterns for the day. In most areas, traffic is light to non-existent in nighttime hours. I doubt they'd apply trafficTrends to nighttime driving since traffic during nighttime hours can be vastly different than daytime hours. |

I'm sure i've seen somewhere that you will be able to download traffic trends updates when you connect you device.
That sounds quite interesting as you not have to wait for a quarterly map update. I guess the data must be held in a separate table and calculated independently of the map. |

I'm not sure how Garmin trafficTrends gets updated, and I couldn't find any reference to it searching their website. TomTom does require you to log on to TomTom Home with your device weekly, or so, to update certain features such as QuickGPSfix and fuel prices information (on a Live Services enabled device):
http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=88#faq-177
quote: For the best navigation experience available, we recommend you connect to TomTom HOME on a weekly basis. That way, you can get frequent QuickGPSfix, free map edits from the Map Share™ community and check out what new content is available to download.
There's a reference to how IQ Routes gets updated when you connect to the Home application at the bottom of the screen page linked below, but it does not specifically state that you will NOT get the IQ Routes updates on your own device if you do not make the recommended weekly connection:
http://www.tomtom.com/page/iq-routes
quote: Millions of TomTom users worldwide voluntarily provide us with anonymous historical speed-data from each of their journeys every time they connect their device to TomTom HOME . ...
Using this data, TomTom’s unique IQ Routes™ technology calculates your optimal route. This route is based on actual speed data driven on roads, not just maximum speed limits, taking into account any hold-ups that might slow you down (busy junctions, zebra crossings and even shopping crowds).

| The 3760T has started shipping in the UK but no sign yet of the 3790T. Demo unit looks very good and screen changes are quicker than on the 1690. |

WTF, ecoRoute HD doesn't seem to be supported? They seem to think it will help to sell featureless 1XXX series...
Now they have listed 3760T as compatible with ecoRoute HD, but not with 3790T? [ed] |

| They both have the HD option, since they both have Bluetooth. It's simply an oversight on their website as to why it's not listed on the 90. |

I wouldn't be so sure. They are trying to enhance the value of 3760 and may deliberately leave 3790 out. Garmin has been doing this for ages. They spread desirable features all over the product line, so none of them has all of them. It helps to sell multiple units... |

Let's be serious, they've never "spread" features within the same family, as you will see from past discussions it mostly happened through different platform developments, 5xxxx vs 8xx vs 7xx, etc...the 3790T has full BT and even calling via voice control, a great feature by the way !
Getting back on topic, bluzark give us some details on your 3790T, I suppose the shipping units are as impressive as the test ones I had shown in the videos ? |

Very impressed with 3790T. Received today and only used in pedestrian mode around central London and thought the 3d was much better than on my 765T.
The mapping is much clearer - looks more like a map with more detail (in the UK anyway). More road names displayed - redraw speed seems about the same but that is with much more detail. Screen is very responsive and sat lock very quick
My unit shipped with firmware 2.20 (guess quite a lot of work has taken place since GPSPASSION saw the unit). GPS firmware is 2.20 (can't tell if it is SiRFstarIV but it is quick).
Maps were 2011.10, 3d is 2011.10 and NuTrends is version 2.0.
New features are an alarm clock otherwise I didn't spot much new although you can now customise the map in terms of colours etc... but the most, more, less detail option for the map seems to have disappeared.
Haven't tried the voice command yet.
Screen brightness is much better than on my 1690T.
Menus are slightly different - the up / down arrows are now on the lefthand vertical sidebar rather than at the bottom of the screen.
Speedcamera database is 5th April 2010 so these can only have been made in the last few weeks.
Overall a nice unit - please so far, just need to go for a drive now.
Let me know what else you want to know. |
